Thank you. Now I see 😂

So they rang 510 Irish people randomly and asked them whether they agree or disagree with a number of antisemitic statements. 20% of the respondents answered negatively to 5 or more out of the 10 questions.

Jesus... and they're taking the answers as evidence that 20% of the Irish population are antisemitic.

If you knew anything about Irish people and what a bunch of piss takers they are, you would not be throwing this around as genuine evidence of anything.

I suppose they swore on the bible too??

This isn’t a particularly reassuring response

The purpose of the article was to discredit Ireland.
As is this thread. But trying to deflect from the genocide won't achieve anything. The Irish are not the only people who can see what is happening.

How on earth is this one thread deflecting from the genocide?
Get off the thread and start one that suits you better if you think it’s deflecting..

JaneJeffer · 20/11/2024 19:51

Are you expecting the Irish Jewish people to join you in protesting against Israel?
Plenty of Jewish people worldwide don't agree with what the Israeli government is doing.

You think that over 100 people saying antisemitic things to a stranger over the phone is funny?

So what they have is 10,000 random people worldwide who they called out of the blue answered negatively and have used this to state as fact that one fifth of the world's population is antisemitic.

This has been used to support such headlines as "ADL survey finds one billion anti-semites".

Now I wonder if such a survey were done for other groups of races or nationality or gender. I bet the figures would be AT LEAST the same. But you probably don't see what I'm saying.

Can you imagine that one in 5 men think misogynistic thoughts or 1 in 5 Britons would respond negatively to questions about immigrants or travellers. It would be at LEAST that.

Is it OK... fuck no!

No, I don't!

But I think it's funny that those figures have been used to claim that there are one billion antisemites in the world. Absolutely, I find that hilarious.

I've been involved in market research before... in Ireland! I know exactly how people treat these surveys.

Fwiw - I don’t think Ireland is more anti semitic than other places . I just believe there are justifiable concerns. And to be honest- some of the incredibly defensive and dismissive replies on here have not been very reassuring .

So what about how people treat these surveys? Even if they're it talking them seriously, saying that Jewish people control the world just for a laugh is still vile.

Why wouldn't we be defensive? This thread has come out on the offense against Ireland.

This is not a genuine thread about genuine antisemitic incidents in Ireland.

Of course people will be defensive!

Does that mean we're antisemitic?

No you don't understand. It would be disdain towards the surveyor, not the content! Do I agree with that attitude? No! But I don't necessarily disagree either.

I'm not a fan of surveys. I think they can be manipulated in all kinds of ways. Yes, I have absolutely lied in surveys before because I did not appreciate the agenda.

I don't care what the context is. If someone phones up and asks if you think people hate Jews because of you you behave and you say yes you're a cunt. People who make racist comments and then wave it away as a joke are racist cunts.

But it's completely impossible that one in five people are antisemitic?

To be fair it is stated in the new testament that the Jews wanted Barabbas to be spared and Jesus executed. So there is some element of truth to it even if it was the Romans that did the job. It is not anti Semitic to state that.

Edited

No it is not.
But the story is more subtle as it wasn’t The Jews, who condemned Jesus after Herod and Pontius Pilate found him innocent. It was the Jewish Chief Priests and their followers who were jealous of Jesus and thought he was ‘perverting’ the people, and being called a king. The people who followed Jesus were Jews (as well as others).

So the children’s illustration was telling the truth but by not making the whole story clear can be misinterpreted. They could have also imo have given the Chief Priests historic costumes to help show their distance from modern times not shown modern Jewish religious clothes.

The Crucifixion story is possibly not very suitable for little children in my view!

No, but they're probably also racist misogynistic cunts too! That's the point I've been trying to make! There could be 1 in 5 people worldwide who hate Ireland. Is there any point randomly calling 54,000 to find out? Would it prove anything?

I would also hesitate to suggest that the REAL, dangerous, racists may not answer the questions truthfully anyway. Well today they would, but 10 years ago they might have known better.

This is why I hold no faith in surveys. People either answer how they think you want them to answer... or they just answer any old shite! They're not real!

I can't speak for anyone else, but this Irish person absolutely is concerned about any rise in antisemitism.

I don't see why criticism of Israel's current action in Gaza is reduced to antisemitism though, and I do wonder just how far Israel would have to go before criticism would been seen as reasonable by some. Surely no state or government can be beyond criticism.

I also wonder if I'm alone in noticing an uptick in anti Irish posts since the government denounced what's happening in Gaza.

“can't speak for anyone else, but this Irish person absolutely is concerned about any rise in antisemitism.”
That’s good to hear . It was definitely beginning to seem as if most of the Irish posters on here really didn’t care at all about the rise in antisemitism.
I agree that criticism of Israel is definitely NOT antisemitism. In the same way criticism of Ireland is not anti Irish .

I don't get involved on this board, but I can understand Irish posters being frustrated. I've seen more than one post suggesting that Ireland's (quite brave really given their size and the reluctance of others to do the same) denouncement of Israel is because of antisemitism. It isn't, it's because of what's happening in Gaza. Simple as that.
