Conflict in the Middle East

How many more will Israel kill?

Whatsinanamehey · 29/10/2024 15:20

Nearly a 100 people reportedly killed in the north of Gaza today from a strike in Beit Lahia. Many of the dead are small children with some of the footage the most shocking I have seen. Dead children still trapped under the rubble and countless more injured. How can they continue to kill like this? How can this still be justified as self defence? How can such callous disregard for human life be condoned?

I’m not at all sure what you mean by this .

I was commenting on you saying that you don't believe that the Israeli government meant it when they said they were going to eliminate everything and create a Nakba 2023, even though their words and actions have aligned.

I presume that is what you meant when you said I don’t believe everything government ministers say in response to my question Given the mass destruction Gaza and the mass displacement of Palestinians do you believe what they said at the start of the conflict now?

I’m not at all sure what you meant by “people still choose to believe their own narrative “. The phrase implies you think I’m sticking to an ( in your view) erroneous preconceived narrative about the conflict.
I don’t have a “narrative “. I’ve learned things over the course of this year and my view has sometimes shifted accordingly.
I don’t automatically believe what the Israeli government says ( and likewise for Hamas/Iran)

Limesodaagain · 02/11/2024 11:39

@GhostCicada
I also find your posts a bit aggressive because they make negative assumptions about my views. I don’t think I’m “projecting “

Worse for who?

The ENTIRE Middle East.

Wish we saw more "Free Palestinians from Hamas". It is one sided on these threads. And to compare Hamas with Israel is just pathetic; there is no comparison. Terrorists are doing a great job with the propaganda attacks; Tokyo Rose would be proud. Hitler wrote this in his Mein Kamph: "Propaganda must always address itself to the broad masses of the people. (...) All propaganda must be presented in a popular form and must fix its intellectual level so as not to be above the heads of the least intellectual of those to whom it is directed. (...) The art of propaganda consists precisely in being able to awaken the imagination of the public through an appeal to their feelings, in finding the appropriate psychological form that will arrest the attention and appeal to the hearts of the national masses."

The psychological "form" Hitler refers to, would be, in this case: pandering to
pity/empathy (a feeling) for the Palestinian people. No human anywhere does not feel for the Palestinians, who are ruled by Hamas and terrorists. Germany was in the grips of a mass murderer and crazy man and most of the German people didn't see that, either. Hitler made all Germans think the Brits, the US were the bad guys. What a master teacher of propaganda true evil can be. Hence Hamas, Hezbolla, Iran. They all kill those who could tell the truth, because the truth sets people free.

What is your post trying to say? Because if it is suggesting that people who are pandering to pity/empathy (a feeling) for the Palestinian people are supportive of terrorists you are completely wrong and that belief is as a result of propaganda you are being fed. Most on here do not live in the Middle East, have access to multiple new sources which provide a broad view of what it is happening. Suggesting our opinions are due to terrorist propaganda is a lazy way of dismissing our concerns and views on what is happening.

I do agree with some of this .
I find that some of the rhetoric used in this debate is very simplistic and ignores the wider issues. I have seen that on the pro Palestinian marches .
However, I can’t see any good reason for continuing the bombing of innocent Palestinians who have no influence over Hamas and the release of the hostages

Am sure they continue to bomb any place they have identified as a Hamas rat hole. I hate the bombing too, but it seems to be the only language terrorists speak; they certainly don't compromise - kidnappers rarely do.

But innocent children and families are suffering. They have nowhere to shelter from the bombing. They are suffering more than Hamas.
Israel’s International reputation has been badly damaged.

It isn't lazy, just a perspective. What I find interesting is that the propaganda seems to be more internet based, posts and reposts. Not on mainstream news outlets, traceable. What I do see is what seems to be a bias of photos of Palestinians being wounded. We never see a wounded or killed IDF photo and a crying mother of an Israeli. I am CERTAIN there are many dead IDF soldiers in this war. Reports of H & H bombing, attacking ships in the Med are ignored! Where is the empathy for the foreign nationals who aren't Israeli? Civilian ships from all over; American ships being attacked, too! Zero sympathy there, either. All the photos of kidnapped Israelis seem to be missing. Again: forgotten in the uproar of indignation by heaven forbid: Israel asking H and H to stop terrorism or they will be hunted to the ends of the earth and destroyed. These countries have been playing tit for tat for ages and to what end? This has to stop some day: it may as well be now and not later, for all other future generations to deal with! Terrorists don't negotiate, terrorists use illegal means of support (drug trafficking for one); offering themselves up for money no matter the cause, just to wreak havoc on developing countries who want peace and democratic law.

I agree. Also tens of thousands of Israelis have had to leave their homes in the north... This is barely even mentioned in UK media.

If by "Hamas rat hole" you mean "civilian populations that they have obligations under international law to not bomb into oblivion". You know, like polio vaccination centres, essential aid distribution convoys and ICRC ambulances for which they pre-approved routes and timetables, the exact areas to which they instructed civilians to evacuate, etc., etc....

You don't hate the bombing if you want it to continue.

I hate having to discipline children, too, but it has to be done. Same way with bombing: one can hate it but know it must happen for terrorists to listen. If the terrorists has listened to N, taken him seriously, the bombing would not be happening. I believe the Israelis are done negotiating and one cannot blame them. Someone has to draw a line in the sand. To think that they bomb with light hearts is a sad mistake. Only terrorists dance with glee at killing innocents, and the world watches the terrorists BEHEAD Americans and kill anyone from their hated "Western infidels" and they bomb New York. Anyone not against terrorists is for them; anyone who blames a country, such as Israel, for defending their country against terrorists helps the terrorists by spouting further propaganda.

Scirocco · 04/11/2024 09:53

The murders, tortures and suffering of an entire population of innocent people is not something equivalent to sending a child to the naughty step. It speaks volumes about people that they compare the two and consider it valid.

As for people thinking Israeli soldiers are all torn up about what they're doing, yeah, the guys making TikToks about it, cheering and laughing, raping people, crushing people to death with armoured bulldozers, and describing arsonists as "goofy" all seem really torn up about it. As do the people cheering them on. The people in this country who are openly supporting it and feel confident to openly suggest the same should happen to Muslims here also seem really upset and regretful.

Someone hasn't been keeping up with the social media posts of IDF soldiers playing gleefully with the toys of dead or displaced children and dressing up in dead or displaced women's clothing. Or are we agreeing that they're also sick terrorists?

Tens of thousands of Israelis, over a million Palestinians. That's two orders of magnitude.

Not to mention that the displaced Israelis are always mentioned in the media, at least in all the coverage I follow. The magnitude is completely different though - millions displaced with no where to go, no food, no clean water or medical supplies Vs ordered to evactuate to government subsidized hotels and apartments. One experience is inconvenient and uncomfortable and the other is a death sentence.
