All wars end. I use the term "war" very loosely as I don't view this as a war.
What will happen to the Gazans? How can live in such devastation? How can they deal with so much trauma? Will they ever recover?

Apologies if it came over that I was aiming my comment at the poster, I wasn't, but as the the article says it has been for years a" commonplace of Jerusalem political conversation" it is obviously something that has been said by many people, whoever said it is in my opinion holding a very ignorant view

Agreed, absolutely.

Except Russia/Iranian aid as a proprtion is far greater than US aid to Israel.

You would be surprised to know that more people think Israel is a threat to global peace than even Iran!

Notaflippinclue · 15/10/2024 20:13

Surprised isn't the word! Because you are talking complete and utter nonsense - don't tell me Al Jazeera told you that!

No love it was a poll on yougov. It isn't nonsense just because you don't agree with it either!

Israel almost ties with China which is only second to Russia! Most British people are rightly very concerned with the threat Israel is to global peace alongside China and Russia.

Thank you Scirocco and Ghostcicada.

It's all unimaginably dreadful.

I'm so sorry for everyone caught up in this - and especially for children.

Thank you @GoForARun - you're right, children are the ones who are suffering most here and who will continue to suffer. For the sake of the innocent children of Palestine, Lebanon, Israel and Muslim and Jewish communities around the world, we desperately need a ceasefire and a peace process. There's a lot of healing to do, and our children deserve better than a future of fear and pain.

YouGov is often thought to be somewhat right-leaning, so those poll findings are rather interesting...

Yeah as you can see people are very worried at Israel's extreme actions. It's also interesting the poster automatically thought it was al jazeera. It just shows that all those shouting about bubbles and echo Chambers are in one themselves. Most of the British public are rightly appalled at what Israel is doing and the support our government gives them! Not in my name I say!

Whats that got to do with aid as a proportion of military spending? And what does that mean anyway, did someone do a global poll?

Kindatired · 15/10/2024 20:56

@SharonEllis
Some of us see that Netanyahu wants American boots on the ground. Politically he can’t afford to loose Israeli soldiers, he can’t hammer Iran on his own. He wants the Americans and the Brits to take on Iran for him - the US bogged down indefinitely, the IDF “defending” Israel with politically acceptable casualties for Netanyahu’s coalition, and Netanyahu’s legal troubles kicked further down the line.
Most of us who don’t have a personal allegiance to Israel by reason of birth think that that is a danger to world peace

As much as I hate to say it, as the two are not interchangeable, but this won't end well for Israelis or Jews. The amount of hatred this war has created towards the two, as a consequence of the Israeli government actions is significant. A price will be paid, not now, but over the course of time.

Why would people hate Jews because of what the Israeli government is doing? Are all Jews worldwide responsible for Israel?

Are all Muslims responsible for Hamas's actions?

Hunglikeapolevaulter · 15/10/2024 00:46

What's ridiculous is trivialising Hezbollah's year-long assault as "relatively unimportant", and then bitching when Israel retaliates.

I don't think it's me that's doing the bitching. ;-]

No we aren't, but we're still getting attacked in the street, death threats daubed outside our homes, prejudice and hate crimes in our daily lives. Islamophobia and antisemitism have increased over the past year. They are going to be part of the aftermath of this.

There is no reason why they should, doesn't mean they won't though. In the same way Muslims were blamed for 9/11.

Really sorry to hear about that. It's wrong, it should never be like that.

This is so sad and so wrong that innocent people all over the world are targeted because of the egomaniacs that are in power, no one should be treated like this, I will never understand the hatred that people have for others that have never done them any wrong, the future looks scary to be honest
