The BBC are saying nine died and thousands have been injured, hundreds critically, there's a video on the BBC website of an explosion from a supermarket with a woman and several young children present. How can anyone describe that as a targetted attack? If thousands of people in Belgium were injured because the Dutch were trying to neutralise a terrorist group nobody would think that was acceptable would they? Why is it OK because it's happening in Lebanon?

Saving your empathy for one group of people and not having any empathy for an innocent 10 year old girl is the point at which you have lost your humanity.
I have empathy for the victims of the 7th October attack, for the Israeli hostages and for the thousands of Palestinians that have been killed. They are all humans, people, and our brothers and sisters.

Her father was a terrorist - he put her life in danger. That was a risk he was clearly comfortable taking.

I'm fine with my humanity, thanks - Hezbollah and Hamas are not my brothers and sisters. Frankly, I'm in absolute awe of the Israelis, and I wish them every success in future actions like this.

Flibflobflibflob · 17/09/2024 21:16

There was a ceasefire in place, they attacked and kidnapped civilians. If your resistance mainly involves murder rape and kidnapping then I think you need to rethink your resistance.

There was absolutely no need for any of this. Hamas have never indicated an interest in a 2 state solution or any solution that didn’t involve Israel disappearing. That is not a serious position, it’s a child’s position.

October the 7th wasn’t an operation against an opposing army it was an attack on civilians. Who on earth thinks that would go unanswered.

So it's ok to punish (kill) children for the sins of their fathers.

You've no humanity to be fine with tbh

I saw a video of one of the explosions. It’s a small explosion, the people standing next to the guy were uninjured. It was in his bag and his bag exploded but he didn’t. I can see how it would actually make sense. Usually you have a pager clipped to your belt of in your pocket, in the vast majority of cases the only person injured would be the person wearing it. The number of explosions that didn’t outright kill the targets should be an indicator of how small and close to the body these were.

The death of the little girl is of course utterly tragic.

It's being reported though that over two thousand were injured

Two Lebanese soldiers face each other and talk intently

Hezbollah pagers: How did they explode and who is responsible?

The attacks left nine dead and thousands injured, but how the blasts occurred remains unclear.

Er yes, these were pagers used by Hezbollah, I imagine the injured were 99% hezbollah not civillians. The explosions aren’t like massive bombs, they are incredibly small and localised. the impression given is that a massive bomb went off that injured 2000 bystanders. Thats not the case. Thousands of tiny bombs attached to thousands of hezbollah members went off. Aside from the human cost it’s quite extraordinary they managed to do this.

Don’t worry no-one dies on this clip, no blood etc but it demonstrates why Israel thought this was a good way to minimise non combatant casualties whilst impairing Hezbollah.

@Dulra This is where things get complicated. This is a long chain of consequences leading to that little girl’s death, most of which involve adults choosing ego and aggression over reason and logic.

It looks like this is an attempt to neutralise Hezbollah post Golan Heights attack. People died there too and thousands have been displaced. I’m not point this out to be goady but it seems people on here only read one side.

im reading comments on twitter (that I hope they’re not right) that civilians like doctors , teachers etc also use pagers. Moreover , people might have buy thsm. So I’m hoping you’re right about the 99%. Because I fear that many civilians have been targeted and injured.

I'm sure that'll be how it will be reported. In the same way that there seem to be a phenomenal number of UNWRA employees who are also Hamas members and the Al'Jazeera journalist who was keeping hostages in his home. Doctors and teachers can also be terrorists, in the sane way that journalists and "aid workers" can be.

Yes but I imagine these specific pagers were tampered with, Israel gains nothing from blowing up doctors or nurses. The Iranian ambassador had one, they are most likely a specific batch directly by hezbollah or Iran to Hezbollah members rather than Israel randomly blowing up random pagers. Given the effort it required to do this I think they would have wanted to make sure they got militia men rather than randoms who happened to own a pager.

We don't even know whether her father was involved in any way do we? Are you just assuming that? Your comments are disgusting.

ExquisiteEmelda · 17/09/2024 21:32

They will be a certain batch of pagers targeting the terrorists not everyday ones that doctors etc will be using.

Bontonbonbon · 17/09/2024 21:33

@EasterIssland

They’re all Hezbollah members, either openly or secretly. This wasn’t a random shipment of pagers. Hezbollah decided that smart phone were too easy to track and switched to pagers as a way of sending undetected messages to cell members. It looks like Mossad managed to intercept a shipment and place plastic explosive in each unit. This would be a shipment bound for distribution to Hezbollah members.

The stark fact is that Hezbollah have been hold the populations of Lebanon and Northern Israel hostage via terrorism for a long time. I cannot feel sorry for the adults who chose that violent path of hate.

I believe what you’ve mentioned “if” true is a small portion of URNWA and aljazeera

also, Israel after many months has failed to proof their accusations

moreover , from what I’m reading it’s not because they don’t carry this pagers because they are hezbollah members but because it’s something they carry as part of their work. So an innocent doctor could have been killed because Israel was trying to target hezbollah

HelenHen · 17/09/2024 21:35

Absolutely disgusting terrorist attack today. No justification whatsoever for that!

I think it's time to ban any tech goods from Israel, now that we know the risk.

Do you have proof that all those affected were all hezbollah members as you’re saying ?

It's not about sides I'm just not comfortable with people on a mumsnet site being so dismissive of innocent children being killed.

@Dulra It’s the nature of this board. People are so entrenched that it’s hard to see the wood for the trees. It’s incredibly sad. That little girl should have had a safe childhood. If only everyone around her could have chosen differently!

No one wants you to feel sorry for terrorists but it is the innocent population of Lebanon that have also suffered here. Why are innocent people always so dispensable

SunnyZebra · 17/09/2024 21:41

All the reputable news sites are reporting that this was a targeted attack on Hezbollah and the dead and injured are Hezbollah apart from 1 poor child. Where are people getting that ‘innocent civilians were injured’ from?

newbeggins · 17/09/2024 21:42

More tit for tat

Flibflobflibflob · 17/09/2024 21:42

Yeah fairly sure if you were issued with one of these you were hezbollah. I don’t think these were the kind if pagers you could buy from a shop.

From
the fact that not only hezbollah members carry pagers.
4k people injured and all hezbollah members ? Not a single civilian ?

israek might have wanted to target hezbollah but probably many of those 4k are innocent civilians as well
