Global Imams Council also blames Hamas for the deaths of all innocents since 7th October 2023.
They bear responsibility of course they do but "they made me do it" is no defence, Israel are responsible for their own actions.

And says Iran has a share of responsibility too.
Yes I agree as do the US and other nations providing military arms in this conflict

Are you seriously equating Iran’s involvement with that of “US and other nations providing military arms in this conflict”?

I am suggesting the US and UK also bear some responsibility

It is an international organization made up of 193 members. How many are antisemitic?and of those that are do they have a seat at the security council?
If the UN is as you describe why is Israel still a member?

There are many member states in the UN that are "enemies" of each other, it's easy to criticise but no one would know where we would be without it.

Israel is a member of the United Nations because it is a 'nation'. Its quite straightforward.

Maybe you need to do a bit of research into Iran’s involvement in this conflict.

I don't think getting into a whole argument about factual causation is wise, where do you start Oct 7th or before......

I was merely disagreeing with their suggestion that Israel has responsibility over the deaths they've caused.

It's not automatic you can choose to join or not being a nation is irrelevant. I'm a woman but not a member of my local women's group

I never mentioned Iran I am well aware of Irans role and how they fund and support Hamas despots tend to stick together. I am not sure why you think that absolves the US and UK of their role.

Could you maybe point out what's strange in what I've said or do you just like personally attacking me

In response to
“And says Iran has a share of responsibility too.” ( meaning - shared responsibility with Hamas)
You said
“Yes I agree as do the US and other nations providing military arms in this conflict”

I felt you were unfairly implying there was an equivalence of responsibility between Iran and the US .

The posts suggesting that Israel are such nice guys because they've stopped bombing Palestinian children for a few hours to allow them to be vaccinated are really something. Amazing mental gymnastics going on.

I think that’s a very twisted reading. You’re pretty good at mental gymnastics yourself

Lettherebejustice · 02/09/2024 21:12

It has reached a point where even the staunchest of allies can no longer turn a blind eye.

Lettherebejustice · 02/09/2024 21:20

It will not have much of a military impact, but it definitely sends a very strong political message.

Lettherebejustice · 02/09/2024 21:24

Each person is responsible for their own actions. Hamas for theirs and Israel for theirs. It is astonishing to see people on this thread absolve Israel for their crimes against the Gazans. I only see this rhetoric stated so brazenly on mumsnet.

SharonEllis · 02/09/2024 17:43

The UN is just all the nations (clue in name). Many are virulently antisemitic and open enemies of Israel, most notably Iran but it is not alone.

Is that because you don’t agree with criticisms made by the UN reports? They are meant to have independent international commissions and are based on international law. I would say that they are simply holding Israel to account, as is the UN’s judicial arm- the ICJ.

The UN reports have also criticised Hamas.

I agree with the limits of UN, eg due to certain countries having vetos. Would be more democratic and fair if this wasn’t the case. If anything- the vetos have worked in a way to favour Israel? I wouldn’t say infantilise but gave them a free ride to continue their destruction of Gaza.

I didn’t see anyone “absolve Israel for their crimes” ?

“I only see this rhetoric stated so brazenly on mumsnet.” What “brazen rhetoric “? The idea that Iran and Hamas deliberately started this conflict and don’t care about the Palestinian deaths … is that the “brazen rhetoric “ you object to?
If not - please let us know - what is the brazen rhetoric?

Lettherebejustice · 02/09/2024 21:51

@Limesodaagain blaming the deaths of thousands in Gaza as 'factual causation' is exactly that.

How is it twisting things? That's what posters here were saying.

It can't be genocide because they stopped the genocide for a few hours over a few days. It would be a laughable argument if it weren't so depraved.

What? Did you just erase all the Hamas rocket, incendiary bombs and suicide attacks from Gaza into Israel between 2006-2023? And the Israel Gaza war of 2014?

I am a shocked someone who purports to be against terrorism and a supporter of Israel would so blithely gloss over those decades of intermittent attacks and Israel’s strong counter attacks.

Less than a week before the Hamas attack on Oct 7th, 2023, Israel was carrying out air strikes on Gaza in response to Hamas setting aloft incendiary balloons.

And you think nothing would have happened over the past 11 months of it weren’t for Oct 7th? Some attacks would still have happened. There hasn’t been even a single month with no attack from one to the other. I agree another mass invasion like this one and the smaller one in 2014 probably wouldn’t have happened.
