The IDF have reportedly carried out airstrikes on displaced people, in an area Israel designated a 'humanitarian area'. They told people to go there, displaced people to that area, and have now reportedly bombed it.

Airstrikes on Rafah reportedly kill 30 after Hamas launches rockets at Tel Aviv

Medics in the southern Gaza city say the strikes hit an area of tents being used by displaced people.

“There are no hospitals in Rafah. All the injured and the dead bodies have been transferred to the International Medical Corps field hospital. There are no ambulances.”

No ambulances because there's no fuel

.

In completely unemotional terms - civilian deaths ARE collateral damage and to some extent unavoidable in urban warfare.
There is no getting around that. You can’t negiotiate with terrorists whose only goal is destruction.
Hamas and their masters are positively gleeful at the civilian carnage and the western handwringing,
it’s exactly what they want.

During WW2, we firebombed German cities, to destroy the manufacturing infrastructure / road and rail networks - the alternative was surrender and becoming occupied like mainland Europe, many thousands of German civilians were killed, as were the hundreds of thousands of European civilians killed as the Allies fought their way from Normandy to Berlin - was that murder?

No, it was the unfortunate consequence of war.

There was plenty of debate even prior to the end of WWII about the Allied firebombing of German cities and whether it could be justified. Your assertion that the alternative was surrender suggests that you don't have a clue what you're talking about.

That is the stuff of nightmares, @anotherlevel .

To anyone who looks at this and sees collateral damage, justifiable action, please read this. Please look at your own children, who you no doubt love dearly. Please place yourself in that mother's shoes.

@Scirocco it really is. I can't imagine her pain and the fact she knew it would be her last hug with them. That's heartbreaking.

I'm sure someone will be a long in a minute to say we're being too emotional and that the video and testimony is fake.

When you can see these things without feeling any sort of compassion then you know all of humanity is lost.

That is heartbreaking. I cannot begin to imagine her pain and grief it is beyond anything I could comprehend 💔It is a living nightmare in Rafah right now. I hope they can find strength and hope from somewhere to keep going. I honestly don't think I could

I thought the worst pain I could ever feel was holding my child for the last time and having to let go. But for a mother to have to do that like that... It's like something from a nightmare.

Unspeakable. I’m not sure what can be left in this world for this poor woman . I hope she is surrounded by people who care.

anotherlevel · 28/05/2024 16:49

@Scirocco I'm so sorry for all the pain it's bringing back. I just can't imagine how painful it would be. We have to have faith in Allah SWT and trust He will punish those who are actively complicit and responsible for this massacre.

Yes - you are right- terrible things always happen in war . But are you suggesting that armies we support should be free from scrutiny or criticism? I understand that this is a very complex conflict and lots of factors to consider but try as I might I cannot see how it is ok to bomb homeless civilians in tents . I deplore Hamas and behaving in this way creates support for extremists like Hamas.

Limesodaagain · 28/05/2024 17:02

It’s actually heartbreaking that anyone would attempt to justify bombing a civilian refugee camp filled with traumatised families.

TakeMe2Insanity · 28/05/2024 17:16

The pain is unimaginable. The poor mother’s whole future is gone. How do you even begin grieving when everything you could possibly hold is gone. It doesn’t cease to shock me that some posters keep justifying the bombing of Palestinians as if it will fix everything.

Yes the satellite images are really messing up the narrative - 3 or 4 different accounts have been put out there now and they don't hang together - even contradict one another

So his excuse is "it must have been Hamas" how predictable

According to the BBC the attack on Sunday was not a blood bath.

I have no words left.

This is why everyone urged Israel not to bomb Rafeh. It's why a ceasefire is so desperately needed.

I am struggling to think of another situation where the civilian population had no food, medicine, water or freedom of movement whilst under constant aerial attack.

We keep referencing the second world war but the populace there could flee into the countryside or seek help.

sprigatito · 28/05/2024 19:07

I wish people would stop calling this a war. It's not a war when only one side has an army, a navy, an air force and massive military apparatus. It's a slaughter, not a war.

It isn’t only Muslims who want to see the IDF and Israeli govt be punished.

Totally agree.

A war depicts some kind of equivalence.

One side has an army, airforce, tanks, jets, bombers, 2000 lb bombs, billions of dollars of arms and one of the strongest militaries in the world.

The other has rockets, and is trapped in a bombed out city.
