I think that the US and UK will be putting themselves in a really bad position unless they respect the outcome of this, and can restrain themselves from trying to pull the strings. A lack of respect for international law is not a good look, it makes for poor global relations, and one day they might want it to be upheld to protect themselves.

China / Russia are looking to have some sort of "autocratic leadership" in a multipolar world particular with the "Global South". This is a god given bonus to them to say looks at your international rules based order , look at your lecturing on human rights and moral authority. Your emporer has no clothes. Don't lecture us on Ukraine or the Uyghers or Tibet - we ain't listening and we don't care. Like Israel and the US they aren't signatories either. Very convenient.

Efacsen · 21/05/2024 17:24

Qatar's not a signatory either so don't know what that will mean wrt to removing Hanihya from his bolthole

Not necessarily on this particular thread but across the CITME board, I've seen posters:

-report posts for being antisemitic for any type of criticism of the Israeli government. The posts have then been deleted. There’s been a lot.

-Accuse posters of spreading misinformation by purposefully spreading an incorrect definition of antisemitism when they said the definition of antisemitism to include any questioning of the state of Israel.

-Posters then say that questioning the Israeli government isn’t antisemitic.

-and now that the ICC have sought arrest warrants for Netanyahu for war crimes, the ICC is accused of being antisemitic. Is bombing hospitals, mosques, schools, starving a population antisemitic? Because these are all war crimes that Netanyahu has been accused of.

So what is it then?

You just can’t make these things up.

It is really tiresome the constant accusations of antisemitism for anyone who dares criticis the actions of the Israeli government. I'm sick of it. Its not just individual posters that have been accused of antisemitism. I've seen the UN, the WHO, the UK, the ICC and other international organisations all accused of antisemitism over these threads. One poster on the "AMA I live in TelAviv", and others piled on to agree, called the UN Nazis.

Mummy2024 · 21/05/2024 17:45

Wake up, no genocide should be accepted, by anyone. It has nothing to do with people's religious beliefs and everything to do with murdering and starving children. That goes for both sides. Lock them all up!!!

Well said Biden. Continue at your peril, Khan, Clooney et al.

"Biden said that Israel is not committing genocide in Gaza."

And reported in Al Jazeera so no accusations that it is cobblers if it was reported in the DM or DT.

Biden says what ever suits American foreign policy best. Incase you haven't noticed the west doesn't have many friends in the middle east.... double standards to an extreme, we are in no doubt about the pit falls of politics influencing and being more important than a human life, when it comes to world politics. He'd had to air drop and build an entire pier because they arnt letting life preserving supplies though. I think his actions say more than his words...

@Mummy2024 I did NOT say and nor do I support indiscriminate bombing and deliberate starvation. Your posts to me are inflammatory and goady.

Stop now please.

Well your denying it equates to genocide arnt you? And calling anyone that wants it to stop antisemitic? This is the first comment you've actually responded on that I've written and it was to silence me... if I'm wrong say so... I'll happily appologise and I'll be very glad I'm wrong.

I apologise if I've gotten the wrong impression from your posts, if I could remove the specific comment I would but I'm still trying to find out how to do so on here. Hopefully mum's net will do it for me.

Punishing for doing their job?

He's Trump's lap dog in the House that has denied aid for 6 months to Ukraine because ...Trump. Daddy Trump doesn't like the rule of law anywhere....

I feel sorry for the prosecutors they are noble honourable people with impeccable careers. They have put their personal safety on the line for just following the law. According to Netanhayu he is the most notorious anti-semite since WW2 (he really said that).

It's not my intention to suggest that nor did I say you support it i said you don't believe it is genocide? Is that not correct or inferred from your posts?

Wow - now accusing me of supporting genocide.

Did you mean my original post that offended you? My wording wasn't great and I do apologise, your absolutely right, you didn't say you supported what I wrote. I will contact mums net and have It removed if possible. Tensions are high on this issue because of what is happening to thousands of people through no fault of their own and we are helpless to do anything to help them, feelings run high. But you are owed an apology for what I wrote.

keenforhelp · 21/05/2024 18:36

Wow - now accusing me of supporting genocide.

I've asked for the offensive post to be removed. I want to make clear I am sorry, it wasn't even meant to infer that you support genocide. I was under the impression you didn't believe it was genocide, therefore I didn't for one second think that you would take that as me saying you support genocide, now that you have, I've done all I can to remove it.

Scirocco · 21/05/2024 19:03

If people think an arrest warrant should not be sought for Netanyahu, presumably that is on the basis of thinking he is not responsible for the alleged offences. I would suggest that those people spend a few minutes looking at the horrendous images and reports of suffering coming out of Gaza, and ask themselves if what they are seeing and reading should be allowed to happen with no challenge or consequence?

It's easy to detach from what thousands of deaths actually looks like when you don't have to see it. Look at the people. Hear their stories. Read what we who are bearing witness to this have to say. The dead are our loved ones. Our friends, families and colleagues.

If you do not believe that international bodies should apply their standards to the people leading the force and government carrying out the acts killing our loved ones, then have the courage to see, hear and know the lives lost that you are therefore saying mean less than your own.

I don't think it'll catch on, though.
