He's also Jewish.

And has taken a close interest in the Israeli government response to 7/10 from the outset

His appointment may also signal some movement wrt to recognising Palestinian statehood too?

I believe that might not happen. That they’ve mentioned they’ll follow what USA does. And we know USA won’t recognise it so far with any of the future presidents

UK to drop opposition to ICC arrest warrants against Gallant, Netanyahu

Kindatired · 25/07/2024 20:41

Richard Hermes has a good track record on human rights and he’s a top legal brain. Just because he is Jewish doesn’t mean he wants Netanyahu to get away with this. Judaism is his religion, he’s entitled to practice it openly without it being assumed he’s in favour of the ongoing atrocities being carried out by Israel.

It’s likely a technical legal thing with the warrants-like the way it’s debatable as to whether they’ll be able to prove genocidal intent even though the actions of Israel are consistent with genocide.

That’s brilliant news.

I’ve also read rumours that uk will restrict the selling arms to Israel but ive only seen it in one newspaper. Hope both become true

And???

PeasfullPerson · 20/09/2024 11:34

All the UK would be doing is showing a commitment to international law. It’s in Israel’s (and everyone else’s) long term interests that their fraudulent leader is held to account. Otherwise, things will only get worse.

BelleHathor · 20/09/2024 11:45

Perhaps the delay is because Netanyahu is due to address the UN general assembly in New York on September 27th? Signatories to the Treaty would have the obligation to arrest him if the warrant is issued before.

Hungary to withdraw from icc. They’ll be welcoming netanhayu to their country

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c807lm2003zo

"Since 2010, when he resumed office, his policies have undermined democracy, weakened judicial independence, increased corruption, and curtailed press freedom in Hungary"

He's bffs with Netanyahu, you can see why.☝
