A journalist inquired of Mahatma Gandhi, “What do you think of Western civilization?” He retorted, “I think it would be a good idea.”

Snappy reply but humans all over have shown what they’re capable of

Although mostly men tbf

I don't think it'll catch on, though.

No it didn't sadly, but "we" tend to have much better PR. When your remember the French and the US were ultimately responsible for over 3 million deaths in the paddy fields of SE Asia because Vietnam wanted to determine their own governance you realise that "goodness" is all relative. I'm in my 60s now and thought I had seen it all but the horrors we can see just a click away, be it Hamas atrocities or the remnants of women and children blown up by high explosive bombs have truly brought it home as to how awful war is and why every effort bar none should be sought to avoid it.

This explosion of gore though is totally new and something I would have thought goverments fear lest it degrades their ability to prosecute state sponsored violence in the future. I suspect in the near future AI censorship and the locking down of social media by goverments and other vested interests will eliminate a lot of this and they can go back to going about their business unhindered.

Oh and Israel will be able to regain their self-appointed most moral army in the world crown.

Norway announces it will arrest Netanyahu if he enters the country.

“We are obliged to arrest Netanyahu if he visits our country after the International Criminal Court issues a decision.”

—Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway

Doesn’t it depend on the decision?

Ie if the warrant is there or not

They clearly mean if a warrant is issued, they will respect their responsibilities in relation to it.

It’s not clear wrt the language but yes that’s probably what they were aiming at

I'm so happy to see countries recognising palastine as its own state. Finally some recognition for the forgotten people of that nation. This just shows what's currently happening to them is being recognised and rejected. I hope many more follow suit. I know who won't but I hope everyone else does. I hope a lasting peace for both states can come soon. There needs to be compromise on both sides and all those responsible for attroicities brought to justice.

Mummy2024 · 22/05/2024 11:37

Exacted a heavy price??? Thats what this article says? 35000 lives? Half of them children? Cutting off food water and medicine to a population? Children shot, journalists killed. The daily mail is nothing but propaganda. I cannot believe that they have politicised left and right, the loss of 35000 human lives In 6 months.

Deliberate thread derailment is against MN talk guidelines. There is a separate thread for this.

Really? I think they are related. I think your being abit ott now to be honest. I understood your upset yesterday and acted to remove it but I'm not rising to this one. I've said nothing at all offensive and the comment relates to the same issue. You can't keep trying to silence opposing voices.

It isn't.

Blimey - that Daily Mail article is like a parody of itself! Particularly like the "sanctimonious left"! Reads like it's been written by AI.

What nonsense.

I merely told advised you to post on the relevant threads rather than derail this one. That is not silencing you - it is enabling you to use your voice on the correct thread.

Sigh.

I wouldnt say telling me ive deliberately derailed a thread and have broken rules as "advising me" but what ever your opinion maybe, it is relevant to this issue. I don't want to argue again. I think possibly you don't want the two topics discussed together, but that would be speculation on My part and I don't want a repeat of yesterday,so I will stress that this is how i perceived your comment and we will leave it at that.

nicpic71 · 22/05/2024 22:39

of course they are related, Norway and ireland are adding weight to the general consensus that Israel is commiting war crimes and need to be punished. the only route to peace is a two state solution and maybe if Palestine is a free democracy and has control of borders etc then Israel will feel less threatened. i know it sounds idealistic but years of an occupying state stealing land will always mean death of inncoent civilians
on both sides.

ICJ Update

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) will rule on Friday 24 May on South Africa’s request to order a halt to Israel’s Rafah offensive in Gaza, it said on Thursday.

Don't get excited, not going to happen to Netanyahu

No way is any country's police force going to take the diplomatic risk of arresting a political leader accused of war crimes or genocide. Especially one that is a European and USA ally.

Hopefully they will get the Hamas guys.

Edited

Well It seems that Germany have said they will too if arrest warrants are issued.
I say good, lock them all up and throw away the keys. None will be missed

@Mummy2024 I asked you earlier in the thread but maybe you missed it. Could you explain what you mean by "we will stop you" lHow would it happen?

Efacsen · 23/05/2024 15:09

Not sure that it will be that easy to arrest Haniyeh either

He still fits around with his armed bodyguards despite being under a no-fly order - other non-signatories to the ICC include Qatar, Iran, Turkey, Egypt and Russian all of which he has visited in recent months

Which would be very very frustrating to say the least

Other countries armed forces should enter and arrest leaders of both sides and bring them to justice, I didn't see it or I would have answered sooner sorry.

Jesus fucking Christ.

Then what? After Israel have been invaded by some unspecified country and you manage to arrest Netanyahu at the cost of many lives what happens to Israel? Which is probably still at war with the country that just invaded them.

Then what?

IDF is going after Hamas at the cost of many lives. After this, what happens to the Palestinians? Will they still be killed like the innocent Palestinians in the West Bank and will settlers continue to take their homes?

No country is going to go after Netanyahu in Israel, but your post seems a bit ironic given current circumstances. It also capture questions that lots of people around the world, and even in the Israeli government, are now asking.
