Camilla Tominey in the Telegraph today.
The sheer level of hatred in this article horrifies me. Am I wrong to feel so shocked by this?

The Israelis elected again and again a far right fascist government, watches silently while Palestinians homes are bulldozed and their land stolen in the West Bank, hears the kind of rhetoric from elected government ministers calling for another Nakba, nuclear weapons and the total destruction of Gaza, and watches on their phones the mass slaughter of thousands of children.

All totally fine according to some.

Meanwhile the majority of Palestinians have lived their entire lives under a brutal dehumanising Israeli apartheid.

The same apartheid regime that propped up Hamas in Gaza in order to maintain the status quo, i.e. to undermine the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, and scupper any chance of a Palestinian state.

They’re the bad guys.

"watches silently" 😂😂😂😂😂 Tell me you've never even met or spoken to an Israeli without telling me.

Maybe look into how many protests there were in Israel against the government before October 7th.

Thats a completely standard polling sample. Do you know how polling works? Pollsters dont interview the whole population.

No idea how any sample size would be considered appropriate during a war zone. I have done a lot of research and this would not pass our ethics team

Mind literally boggling at what your notion of an ethics team would be 😂😂😂😂

The FDD article states '71% of all Palestinians supported Hamas' decision to attack Israel on Oct 7th.' I would say this is misleading, since it cites a poll which states a sample size of 1580 adults, which is very different to 'all Palestinians.'

onegrumpyoldwoman · 18/05/2024 21:35

@trampoline123 Ukrainians bypassed plenty of countries to seek refuge here.

they are Christian and don't have a history of terrorism.

I'm sure you could find out, with your research skills. I was responding the the posters obvious lack of understanding of polling sample sizes.

stormy4319trevor · 18/05/2024 21:39

Sharon, Marj? Is 1580 adults the same as all Palestinians, or are you on a fag break?

PeasfullPerson · 18/05/2024 21:39

Ideally there wouldn’t be any children that could potentially be admitted as refugees, and they would be safe and healthy with their family of origin. But seeing as the UK government has played a part in the destruction of everything they’ve ever known, could we not do something to repair some of the injustice they’ve faced. Perhaps it is our hand in things and how refugees may feel that people are also scared of.
If people are completely adverse to taking in refugees, including children, then what should we do to repair all the damage we (as a country) have supported?

Coshei · 18/05/2024 21:39

Marjoriefrobisher · 18/05/2024 21:29

Someone doesn’t know what apartheid was …

Your carry on on this thread is quite appalling. By all means disagree with people, but the sneering is quite unnecessary.

Why? Have you not heard of ethical research and consent?

Yeah it should state 71% of those surveyed strange and misleading way to present their findings

I wouldn’t bother engaging with remarks like this @Dulra I’m sorry you are being treated so unkindly on this thread.

stormy4319trevor · 18/05/2024 21:42

Yes @Dulra. Not very professional.

good post. It is easy for us in our comfortable western homes to make assumptions about people's and regions we know little about. The disingenuity is incredible.

No of course not. But that.is.how.polls.work. Look it up!! How often do you see a poll in the UK Media? Are yiu consulted by the polling companies for every poll you see? Does that suggest to you that perhaps a poll can be conduscted without actually interviewing everyone in the country? Wow.

That's an interesting idea.

I think I'll get a group together and go and picket the Danish, Swedish and Norweigian embassies in London this weekend.

We'll be demanding reparation for all the damage the Vikings did on their rape and pillage incursions down the East Coast.

AhNowTed · 18/05/2024 21:46

@Humdingerydoo

I have been to Israeli many times. I am well aware that not all Israelis support the far right Netanyahu government.

Indeed there are many Jewish voices, both within and outside Isreal who have been vocal about a government hell bent on revenge and destruction, rather than peace and securing the return of the hostages.

I just think that not only Hamas but (as noted in polls quoted in first page above as well as by Camilla Tominey herself) most Gazan men are so violent and so misogynistic we really cannot take them. It would be like taking rabid dogs.

So you agree with this statement and all the other vile hatred the poster said? Your true colours are showing now.

stormy4319trevor · 18/05/2024 21:47

Missing the point, Sharon.

mids2019 · 18/05/2024 21:48

I think someone from the middle East probably has a good idea of the cultures in that region. It is different.
