Standing up for Israel

So, they have got to MN now too.
I just managed to read the previous post before it got deleted for being inflammatory. Not to me it wasn't but then I don't support terrorists.
Many, many people do stand for Israel and not for Hamas (and by definition their supporters; you know who you are).

That was ten years ago ( still terrible though) . Unfortunately you still get homophobia even in liberal democracies. We’ve had horrible homophobic murders in the UK. The fact remains that Israel is a safer country for gay people than any other country in the Middle East . It’s not pink washing

As is often the case with Israel's supposed democratic qualities, they don't extend to Gazans. The Israeli state has been blackmailing gay Palestinians and forcing them to inform or work as agents for them for decades now.

The pinkwashing of this conflict is so icky.

Interesting how protests against Israel's actions are more abhorrent to you than the slaughter of 30,000 people in Israel. Especially from someone claiming to be "peace-loving".

I can't edit the post - instead of " in Israel" I obviously meant "by Israel".

This conflict is a religious one - if Israelis were Muslim there's be no conflict at all. Ignoring the fact that religion is the basis of the conflict is what is stopping the conflict from ending.

Incorrect. It's mainly about land.

There are a number of conflicts in the region between different Muslim groups. I don’t think religion is the basis of the conflict but it is making it easier for both sides to demonise each other.

Don't be ridiculous. Heard of Shia Islam and conflict with Sunnis?

No it's not.

it could stop today with hostage release & hamas laying down their arms.
Netanyahu has rejected Hamas' ceasefire proposal. He has not intention of stopping the slaughter of innocent Palestinians. Why is that?

And yet pp is still correct

It could stop today if Hamas laid down their arms and the hostages were released.

Is it a conflict that unites and energises the entire 1.8 billion Muslims in the world?

It doesn't have to be. It's serious enough.

That wouldn’t solve everything though. Violence against Palestinians in the West Bank would presumably still continue? The current government in Israel would remain?

Nothing like getting things back to front. Israel is an apartheid state where people who are not ethnically Jewish do not have the same rights.

It really wouldn't.

I think you lost some words

If Hamas and Israel laid down their arms and Israel left Palestine then the whole thing would stop

Israel are internationally recognised illegal occupiers and have Gaza under an illegal blockade, they have shown no plans to stop being illegal occupiers when this conflict ends. They are pumping more and more money into illegal settlements. So it isn't a given at all that if Hamas lay down their arms Israel will leave. It is far more likely that if Hamas lay down their arms Israel will continue with their illegal treatment of Palestinians until the whole thing blows up again and Israel pretends to not know why this keeps happening.

Fussandmisery · 08/02/2024 20:56

Im guessing she means Hamas laying down their arms wouldn’t end the occupation of Palestinian territories (the West Bank)?
It wouldn’t resolve the issue of the Palestinians not having a state either.

I think I know this one.
