Standing up for Israel

Fizzadora · 07/02/2024 11:41

So, they have got to MN now too.
I just managed to read the previous post before it got deleted for being inflammatory. Not to me it wasn't but then I don't support terrorists.
Many, many people do stand for Israel and not for Hamas (and by definition their supporters; you know who you are).

I have respect for Jewish Voice for Peace

Doesn't anti-zionist mean that you don't believe the state of Israel should exist?

People criticise Trump all the time without being labelled anti-American. People criticise the actions of Putin without being accused of calling for the destruction of Russia. But criticise Israel's genocide and you are accused of being a self-hating Jew or an antisemite. It's absurd.

And just as many are anti-russian and anti-american and love the fact they can hide behind their acceptable ant-trump, anti-putin righteousness.

They certainly do. Do you think they speak for the people of Israel?

Wow, that's an extreme judgement to make. Not sure how you arrived at that conclusion, but I suspect many would disagree with you.

Also, anyone else note how it's only ever the anti-Israel posters who refer to Palestinians as "subhuman" and say they're not worth as much as Israelis?
No, can’t say I have. Why would pro Palestinians believe Palestinians are worth less than Israelis?

I know! People throw out this kind of comment without thinking about what they are saying!

Also, anyone else note how it's only ever the anti-Israel posters who refer to Palestinians as "subhuman" and say they're not worth as much as Israelis? Constantly putting words in people's mouths. Maybe they're projecting?

Projecting? In what way?! People should not use words they don’t understand.

More so than the antizionists of JVP I think, but you should ask them, if you can still have a dialogue with after calling them genocidal.

Vaccances · 27/02/2024 14:54

quantumbutterfly · 27/02/2024 14:28

So you are a friend of Israel?

Totally!

BUT i 'm no friend of the current policy of killing innocent people with no or little regard.

There must be a better way to ensure Israels security.

Do you think Israel can eradicate Hamas with no chance of a new & even more extreme organisation taking its place?

What would say is an unacceptable death toll of Gazans?

LilaDidIt · 27/02/2024 15:00

quantumbutterfly · 27/02/2024 14:52

I never called the Israeli people genocidal. I called the 144-day long Israeli assault on Gaza genocidal, because that's what it is.
Who speaks for "the people of Israel" then? Is it you?

144 days in captivity for equally innocent Israelis.

LilaDidIt · 27/02/2024 15:17

Yeah, I know that. That wasn't the question.

Vaccances · 27/02/2024 15:24

@quantumbutterfly In case you missed the question: How many Gazan deaths would be too many to achieve Israeli Govts aims or is it unlimited?

stomachamelon · 27/02/2024 15:39

@Vaccances it's a stupid question. What do you want an exact number? I never understand this question.

How many hostages was ok? More or less? More babies or the elderly? Better mix?

More rockets in the north? Less aimed at high population areas?

Should Hamas have been more or less rapey? Targeted families? And men?

They are things that don't need to be asked and show you are spectacularly missing the point!

Or, as Smotrich puts it in his 'Decisive Plan' that I shared up-thread, 'the end justifies the means' (typical reasoning of genocide perpetrators) - and ridding Gaza of Palestinians will create more affordable housing for Israelis (real-estate in Tel Aviv is super-expensive these days!)

Do you often find yourself making fun of people whose mother tongue isn't English? Or do you just reserve it for those of us who think Israel have a right to exist?

I thought it was obvious that I was saying that no one seems to actually say that Palestinians are worth less than Israelis, and that those words are just put in our mouths by the anti-Israel brigade. I then wondered if maybe it's actually the other way around and they are the ones that think some lives are worth more than others. That was what I meant by projecting. Sorry if that wasn't clear, and I'm sorry that you found the need to be so incredibly rude and condescending about it.

You are demanding that Israel fight someone you yourself describe as uncivilised in a civilised manner. That doesn't work. What you're effectively doing is demanding that Israel give up and let the terrorists win.

It's a bit like playing football but only one team is playing by the rules. They're obviously going to lose since the other team are fighting dirty and have dug a tunnel under the goal that they're then scoring from.

Having said that, I wish Israel had done things very differently. I can see why they haven't though.

So whats the Geneva convention all about then??

Anyway, pointless going on these threads with any alternative opinion as @mnhq deletes at the request of the pro Israeli posters.

How can there be a debate on this subject.?

Er I didn’t know that. Should I be a mind reader?. And your English elsewhere is perfectly good so it’s an embarrassing response from you.

Or do you just reserve it for those of us who think Israel have a right to exist?
Cringe. I can’t believe you are pulling this crap in response to my comment. Fgs. It’s possible to challenge a comment without people having to make it about Zionism/antisemitism or whatever unfounded accusation you are trying to throw at me. People need to stop wheeling this out whenever they are challenged. Ugh.

So you were trying to say that the supporters of Palestine don’t think Palestinians’ life are worth anything? Or were you saying that they thought Israeli people’s lives were worthless? Either way it’s a nonsense comment.

Humdingerydoo · 27/02/2024 17:40

@VeniceTheMenace might be sensible not to make fun of anyone for their use of language moving forward. It's an utterly pathetic thing to do, to go around correcting people's English in an attempt to score points. Unless what they're saying is offensive, just let it go.

Normally, people would apologise after being rude to someone. But I guess that's not going to happen here.

What a response you made to this comment of mine:

Yes my comment was challenging and a bit rude, but it did not merit you accusing me of criticising your foreign English and even worse, of being against people who want a homeland in Israel 🤯

And btw ‘anti-Israel brigade’ is rude and dismissive. I would never call posters here the ‘anti-Palestine brigade’, however much I disagreed with them. I would say ‘Pro-Israel’ at most and not say ‘brigade’.

Edited

The only reason I occasionally say anti-Israel is because some things are anti-Israel rather than pro-Palestinian 🤷🏻‍♀️ I am pro-Palestinian. I want them to have a state of their own where they can live safely without fear of oppression and also without having terrorists in charge of them. I also want the Palestinians who choose to instead live in Israel to be allowed to do so without being treated differently from any other Israeli citizens, just like I want Palestinians living in England to be treated the same as everyone else here.

Yes. And I want Israel to continue to exist. Never ever doubted it. Yet you decided I didn’t want people to have a homeland there. Such an unfair accusation.
