Standing up for Israel

So, they have got to MN now too.
I just managed to read the previous post before it got deleted for being inflammatory. Not to me it wasn't but then I don't support terrorists.
Many, many people do stand for Israel and not for Hamas (and by definition their supporters; you know who you are).

The conflict is grim and the majority want peace. What I cannot understand why people who have no skin in the game lose their shit about it with strangers on internet forums.

yumyum33 · 07/02/2024 18:37

It's quite a revelation that most posts supporting Israel have been deleted by the mods. I didn't realise it was such a partisan ethos on here.

If you’re talking about the deleted posts, you’re wrong. They were deleted because the poster made very inappropriate comments about Palestinians. Other posts quoting what that poster said were also deleted.

Unless you think disparaging comments about Palestinians should be allowed, those posts were not pro-Israel.

You can't understand why people might "lose their shit" at 11,500 children being slaughtered?

Hagpie · 07/02/2024 12:34

Committing genocide in an apartheid-state for the last 75 years.

I stand with the Palestinians and anyone, obviously including Israelis, that wants peace.

I too stand with Palestine and the Palestinians

If you're not exercised about the murder of 30k people in 4 months you may be the one with the problem. I think "grim" is a gross understatement of what's happening.

Maybe as a mother, seeing videos of terrified children. Maybe as someone who grew up learning about the horrors of the holocaust and imagining that anyone with a heart would have protested. Maybe as someone who is shocked to be told that if I don't support the genocide of the Palestinians that makes an Antisemite

Majority deleted due to hate speech.

Actually the majority were deleted for rebutting just the one poster's hate speech. We had quoted them so our posts automatically got deleted too.

Yes you’re in this thread and a few others

tempnameforadvice · 07/02/2024 21:29

Deleting posts showing appreciation and acceptance of genocide isn't partisan, it's human.

How the fuck can people genuinely not just be horrified about the attacks and the ongoing slaughter of tens of thousands of innocent civilians?

Are there really, honestly people in the world who think killing innocent people - including children and fucking babies is ok?

Fuck me.

How does posting on a forum help? It won’t. Why don’t you do something that will make a positive difference rather than ranting at strangers?

Who says I’m not?

How does getting angry with me - a stranger on the internet - help Palestinian children?

I think people should stand up against racism and hate speech wherever it occurs. There was some dreadful hate speech deleted from this thread earlier, extremely racist and dehumanising. It is far from the first post along those lines that has been deleted. I think it is natural to want to have a voice where ever you can when 1000s of innocent people are dying preventable deaths aided by the British government. Right now people are starving to death and the British government has decided to stop aid. That's huge. The UK is selling arms to a country that the ICJ has said may plausibly be committing genocide. Again that is huge, the UK has responsibilities under the genocide convention that need to be adhered to. It's totally normal for people to be appalled and want to talk about that.

You also have no idea what posters are doing outside of mumsnet.

I do other things too. I boycott, donate, sign petitions, write to my mp etc.

I am devastated by what’s happening. It makes me sick to my stomach. It makes me angry. Coming here and being able to talk about it with other people is an outlet for me. That’s why I post.

Not really sure why you’re here though if you feel it’s such a big waste of time.

Edited

I don’t disagree but why shoulder the emotional expenditure to engage with people who are unlikely to change their views. I don’t feel it’s healthy or productive. I’d much rather channel my feelings into practical action. As you say, you have no idea what posters are doing outside of Mumsnet.

I didn’t see the deleted posts so this is not a reference to that.
I think any right minded person would be horrified at what is happening in Gaza.
I can also understand how threatened Israelis feel as they are surrounded by terrorist militants on all sides - Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis and numerous other smaller groups.
I think Tatumm was correct - inflammatory language on here is not going to help the people in Gaza.

Limeandsodaontherocks · 07/02/2024 23:03

Yes - We know that Hamas think it’s ok to do this .
War is horrific

That’s good if it genuinely helps, but I have seen friends in real life spiralling down through engaging online in this way.

As for me, I’m here because I was curious - in all the years I have never seen a thread left standing with so many deleted posts in it.

I support Israel-

The only liberal democracy in the Middle East

The only Middle Eastern country where a gay couple can walk down the street holding hands

The only country in the Middle East where Jews and Muslims (2 million muslims are full Israeli citizens) live in peace
