I’ve read that in the last few days Starmer is concerned about the Muslim people not voting labour cuz of his position

https://amp.theguardian.com/politics/2024/jan/30/labour-acts-on-fears-muslims-will-not-vote-for-party-over-gaza-stance

do you think this will have an impact on this years general elections ? I guess whatever they do they’ll lose votes

The ex-MP for where?

The ex-MP for where?

I think it's meant to be East Baghdad. I know that it is racist in that it explicitly states that Galloway only represents a certain race of people.
Similar sentiments are repeated on social media by far right sorts.
Cue, incoming feigning innocence.🙄

Coyoacan · 12/02/2024 01:58

I would rather spoil my ballot than vote for a politician or a party that believes that genocide is a reasonable solution to a problem.

EasterIssland · 11/02/2024 21:55

Probably hiding after this comment today and people reminding him his last 5 months’ words and threats he did against those within his cabinet that voted in favour of a ceasefire months ago

Edited

is that top partly cut tweet from Starmer?

George Galloway was a presenter on Russia Today and used to have his own show. (As did Alex Salmond) Unfortunately we can't see that programme any more as I believe it's been banned from UK.

He (Galloway) was also a Brexit supporter.

So you could say he has a cosmopolitan outlook.

It will be interesting to see what platform he fights his campaign on.

I thought he would effectively be standing but without labour support and so if elected would be in the house as an independent.
Sir kier is certainly right that he has changed the party out of all recognition. Debatable whether it is still a party. What next, sir keir has plastic surgery to change himself out of all recognition and the voters can guess which masked singer/cartoon character he is?

My mistake, he is standing but as an Independent as he's lost the Labour Whip.

Labour has now cut their endorsement of Azhar Ali as it seems more of his comments have come to light. He won't be standing but it's too late to take his name off the ballot paper

Part of me wonders if they left it too late on purpose, to avoid opening this particular box of delights at the moment.

But I’m quite cynical that way.

Exactly.

Now he can slug it out with George Galloway....

sorry, probably being very dim, can you explain?
honest question.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 13/02/2024 12:24

They just didn’t want to have to deal with, because it would have caused a big problem had he been removed. So they left it become too late for him to be removed.

Just guess though.

Joyce onstad has stepped down from her role in lib dems as some members of her party aren’t happy with her work against genocide

Which 'people in her party' ??

Seems a bit nebulous to me.

Jasmin1971 · 14/02/2024 14:31

I genuinely can't understand anyone voting Tory ever again.

There is a new vote next week in parliament for the government to request ceasefire

time for labour members and Cameron to proof that what they tweet they mean it

https://www.holyrood.com/news/view,snp-to-bring-commons-motion-calling-for-immediate-gaza-ceasefire

Oh ffs.

That will go down like lead balloon.

Both the government and the opposition have said they support Israel's right to defend itself.

I wish these has-been parties would stop wasting Parliamentary time.

Ladyjanegreysketle · 14/02/2024 18:45

Just in -

"A third Labour politician attended a meeting of activists at the centre of an antisemitism row within the party, Sky News understands.
Hyndburn councillor Munsif Dad, who leads the local authority's Labour group, is thought to have been at the gathering where two parliamentary candidates are alleged to have made anti-Israel remarks."

I'll post more when it all comes out.

Starmer and Cameron also support the idea of a ceasefire few days ago. They might be wasting parliament time in your opinion, totally respect that. They’re not in mine and I’m glad they’ll be voting once again and I can see who is being fake in their tweets and who isn’t ,
