So we should ignore those in Gaza too?
Is that the point of you posting that?

AliceA2021 · 19/02/2024 11:05

3.1 million children die of starvation a year, 1 child every 10 seconds. The worst countries being in sub Saharan Africa

The births rates are very high and the mortality rate for children in some countries also very high and this will continue

AliceA2021 · 19/02/2024 10:59

Sadly children are also dying from starvation in Yeman and Sudan. Somalia has one of the highest death rates too along with Angolia. Afghanistan has children with high malnutrition rates along with Guatemalia. The list of countries with starving children is very long.

There are far far too many countries where children are starving. This shows:

https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/starvation-deaths-by-country

Most are ignored.

Edited

80% of the starving people in the world today are in Gaza

If you want to discuss famine in other parts of the world do start a thread on that and stop trying to de-rail this thread

Not at all. Stop being ridiculous. 1 child every 10 seconds but most are ignored. Most don't matter. All children from all countries matter.

I don't speak Arabic so can't weigh in on its authenticity.

But it doesn't really matter whether this video is in Gaza or not. What it portrays is real. Children ARE dying of starvation, that's beyond question.

I do speak some and - having only commented on the plausibility of Palestinians condemning Arab leaders previously - have actually gone ahead and watched the video ...

I would dispute this is from Gaza. The commentary says "god is sufficient for us he is the best disposer of our affairs over the oppressive Arab rulers" ????
This is - at best - innocently misleading and - at worst - deliberate misinformation!!!

At least one of the comments[!!!] does in fact say that - including the line about Arab rulers! Tons of other comments also include the line God is sufficient and he is the best disposer of affairs. This is a very, very common phrase that, according to Islamic tradition, goes back to Abraham and, essentially, means something along the lines of "this is in the hands of god and I trust him". Nowhere does the poster of the video say any such thing - these are comments.

Essentially, this is disputing the video is from Gaza on the grounds that some stranger on the internet commented on an instagram post. This is basically like disputing that I am a British citizen because someone on MN on one of my threads posted something about "European leaders"!

On substance: the audio has the man filming speak to the children about the fact that they do, indeed, appear to be eating from the garbage.

Both the man and the kids speak in Palestinian accents, by the way!

So why are you posting that here?
What are you doing for those kids in Gaza on this thread other than cast doubt on their suffering?

There is no doubt they are suffering. Why make up things I didn't say.

At least gaza has the eyes of the world and funding to help with the starvation. Maybe when this awful war is over the eyes of the world will look around a bit at other places and help stop world hunger everywhere.

Maybe this will be a tipping point to people caring for all children? I hope so.

You're aware that many major countries have stopped funding UNWRA and Israel and Israeli people have been blocking aid from entering Gaza for months?

it has the eye of the world but that is proving to change very little for them.
and funding to help with the starvation. Many countries have paused their funding to UNWRA at the moment and what aid is there to help is not getting through fast enough because Israel are blocking aid getting through at the border.

help stop world hunger everywhere Absolutely and this is very aspirational but I don't think Gaza is the same as stopping world hunger. These kids were for the most part not starving 5 months ago, they are caught up in a conflict not of their making and as a result are being killed and starved.

Thank you.

I hope there is a ceasefire and this ends. It's awful. Maybe, just a little hope that people use that care and look around the world a little more.

I don't hold my care for just some children - as is true for I hope the majority of posters on these threads. This thread is about documenting Isreali army racism and torture and as a result of their actions children in Gaza are starving and aid is not getting through.

I will

Please I urge you to share your compassion to all children starving though and not ignore the rest.

Goodbye and I hope some people on this thread think of other children? I live in hope all children need care and help to survive?

ConnieCounter · 19/02/2024 11:42

Israel could stop the starvation in Gaza immediately. Let's hope they do that.

Incorrect. There are many more children starving in Afghanistan, Burkina Faso and Congo than in Gaza.
Any child starving is awful but you're statistics are not correct. There are many other countries with a way higher rate of starvation than what is happening in Gaza

Source please

UNICEF - Gaza is the most dangerous place in the world to be a child

WHO - 80% of starving people in the world today are in Gaza

Why would anyone want to take the focus off Gaza? It beggars belief

Maybe start your own thread on famine worldwide??

80 Percent of Global Famine Is Currently in Gaza, UN Expert Warns | Truthout

"There are currently roughly 706,000 people in total across the world who are in populations experiencing “catastrophic” or “famine” levels of hunger, global food researchers have found. Of those people, about 577,000 are Palestinians in Gaza, according to a recent report by the UN-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC).
This means Palestinians in Gaza make up 80 percent of the global population that is currently experiencing famine, as chief economist for the UN World Food Program Arif Husain said in an interview with The New Yorker’s Isaac Chotiner published Wednesday. Some of the other countries facing some level of famine are Sudan, South Sudan and Somalia, according to the IPC.

Husain emphasized that the hunger crisis in Gaza, which IPC researchers have determined is acute across the entire region, is unprecedented in its severity.
“I’ve been doing this for the past two decades, and I’ve been to all kinds of conflicts and all kinds of crises. And, for me, this is unprecedented because of, one, the magnitude, the scale, the entire population of a particular place; second, the severity; and, third, the speed at which this is happening, at which this has unfolded, is unprecedented,” Husain said. “In my life, I’ve never seen anything like this in terms of severity, in terms of scale, and then in terms of speed.”

Husain also pointed out that the IPC report determined that the entire population of Gaza, or about 2.2 million people, will be under “full-fledged famine” within the next six months if Israel continues its blockade of food and other basic needs. The economist said that the escalating crisis is largely the result of Israel barring food from entering and being distributed in the region, adding that its relentless bombing campaign has endangered humanitarian workers and made it nearly impossible to distribute resources."

Palestinians flock to a truck carrying drinkable water, as they face the threat of hunger and thirst in Rafah, Gaza, on December 11, 2023.

@Ladyjanegreysketle

Here is the arabic version of the quote and the story behind it:

Hasbunallahu Wa Ni'mal Wakeel" was the phrase used by believers to rely on Allah during times of crisis, as exemplified by Ibrahim's last words before being thrown into the fire and the Muslims' response to the hypocrites' fear projection.
