Hi all

2024 rates of death due to starvation

https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/starvation-deaths-by-country

Don't worry. More will die soon. Sometimes starvation takes a while to kill people.

Rangelife · 19/02/2024 12:07

There is so much dead cat strategy being applied to this thread it's a bit...weird.

Whilst there are many issues, facing many children around the world, such as food poverty, CSE and CCE and safety due to military action etc there is a specific and acute concern about the safety of the people of Gaza because there are multiple layers of risk being enacted on them - they are stuck in place, they can't leave, they have no access to homes, schooling, food, water (like other children), they also have insufficient access to healthcare, insufficient access to sanitary systems, exposure to disease, insufficient access to safeguarding agencies, they are witnessing trauma and there is a risk of harm from military action (e.g bombing buildings, shrapnel, cross fire and being targets of bullets). Are you telling me that level of risk can applied to other children in the world? It's the layers of risk that make this acute. The 'all children, all over the world' argument is like saying all levels of care in an NHS hospital need to be given the same lens, weight and gravity no matter what the clinical need. People in cardiac arrest should be given the same response as those with a cut finger. It's just a nonsense argument.

And often very difficult to count particularly in the early stages - the people furthest away from food are obviously the most difficult to reach and count

Stop being ridiculous.

I don't want more to die of starvation. I've said endless times I want the hostages released and hamas to step down and a permanent ceasefire.

Efacsen · 19/02/2024 11:54

Thank you @ConnieCounter sorry I was wrong about the agency

Are you going to admit you're wrong @niceandnew?

I'll admit that it's insensitive to argue the severity of the famine when so many are suffering so I'll be leaving the topic alone after this.

To answer you, no I don't think I'm in the wrong. Just google "Global Famine Levels". The numbers are in the tens of millions.

AliceA2021 · 19/02/2024 11:06

Not at all. Stop being ridiculous. 1 child every 10 seconds but most are ignored. Most don't matter. All children from all countries matter.

Edited

How many of these children are dying of starvation because a neighbour state has decided to cut out any aid to them?
The children in Gaza are starved deliberately.
To support this is beyond my understanding.

Good grief. I don't support it. How ridiculous. Try reading.

If you don't support it do you unilaterally condemn Israel's (a) blocking of aid into Gaza (b) its continued bombardment of Gaza.

So not actually admitting you're wrong

Do you think the UNs assessment is incorrect given that they work all over the world in different counties experiencing famines?

PS It was you who 'insensitively' started challenging the starvation and suffering in Gaza

Trust me, I have read your posts.
You appear to say that, while children are starving in Gaza, look over there, others are too. You seem to want to deflect from the deliberate starvation of children, instigated by the Israeli government.
If you don't support it, then say it loud and clear.

Rangelife · 19/02/2024 12:27

You may not support it but from your words you are inferring that if these children underwent an assessment of risk they would measure at being at a similar level of risk to other children around the world and therefore there should be the same level of response to their situation around the world. It's not based on the truth.

People on this thread are providing evidence that UNICEF and WHO (who train, pay and professionally develop people to actually carry out those assessments of risk btw) are concluding that children in Gaza, as a collective, are facing the highest level of risk than any other children in the world. I don't know why anyone needs to take that fact away from them?

If you scroll further down the page you will see 204 countries ranked in order, Gaza is not even on that list so in addition to the numbers given as deaths per 100,000 and therefore not representing what you claimed the list also doesn't even acknowledge Gaza.

Yes starving children are being ignored, mostly in Gaza it would seem, and you didn't even notice.

Sadly humiliation of and sexual violence against Palestinian women is well documented but no one seems to care. Clearly they are the wrong kind of women.

Did anyone else notice this is the report? Who are affiliated forces?

....Some of them were reportedly holding white pieces of cloth when they were killed by the Israeli army or affiliated forces,”

Exactly. Where is the outrage for these women? Why are they not afforded the same outrage as those who were raped on Oct 7th?

"Israeli forces sniped a 14 year old child who left a school in an occupied neighbourhood.

They aim for knees because, as Israeli Soldiers says, "Its more fun to watch."

They do this EVERY SINGLE DAY!"

It won’t end until there is nothing left of Gaza and the West Bank and Netanyahu has resettled new Israeli civilians onto Palestinian land.
Hes already offering money to encourage re location

anotherlevel · 20/02/2024 20:03

Anyone who supports this really needs to check their moral compass. The Palestinians shouldn't be suffering the consequences.

There are always posters who doubt that these things are happening

Israeli commander tells troops ‘we are not on a killing spree’ in Gaza: Monitors

Major-General Herzi Halevi, chief of staff of the Israeli military, has told his soldiers fighting in Gaza that they are not there for “revenge or genocide”, according to war monitors.

In a letter to his commanders, Halevi also said that Israeli soldiers in Gaza were not to take “souvenirs” or to make “revenge videos”, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) and the Critical Threats Project (CTP) report.

“We are not on a killing spree, revenge, or genocide,” Halevi wrote in the letter, according to the ISW/CTP report.

The letter also told Israeli soldiers “not to use force where it is not required, to distinguish between a terrorist and [not] a terrorist, not to take anything that is not ours, a souvenir or a military item, and not to shoot revenge videos”, the ISW/CTP report.

A bit bloody late! That should have been the orders from the start. You know before they committed an untold number of atrocities.

Maybe need to write a letter to the soldiers in the West Bank too.

It is not even a particularly strongly worded letter, are there any consequences if they don't comply with these orders? or is it a cases of covering their backs "we told them not to"
