@youngones1 how long shall we give it?

Banksky made this short art clip to highlight the crisis of Gazan children suffering in war a few years ago but it's even more relevant today. I remembered when I saw that little baby
It's incredibly moving

Banksy video art resurfaces amidst Gaza children’s crisis, paired with author Kanafani’s words

A 2014 video art piece by Banksy, created for the WithSyria campaign, is gaining renewed attention on social media in light of the current situation in Gaza....

A bit off topic I know, but I'm not sure where to post and if it's not ok then happy to remove this post but I just wanted to ask a question.

Given that the Houthis haven't caused any casualties in their attacks in targeting Israeli ships in response to Israel's bombardment of Palestine, do you agree and what are your thoughts/opinions on them being branded a terrorist group by the US?

my first thought when I read that is what will this mean for regular people in Yemen who are already experiencing starvation and have suffered so much already ? It will just be more misery for them as now international financial institutions will need to apply sanctions/payment restrictions on Yemen.

it’s scary how much the conflict is escalating through the region. Reports re Iran/ Pakistan today are also frightening.

Has anyone seen the recent controversy regarding the British Israeli IDF solider Levi Simon, who was booked to give a talk to a group of boys by a UK charity. He posted videos of himself on social media in Gaza. One rifling through a woman’s underwear drawer of a Palestinian house he was in and another holding an Israeli flag in a school saying Hebrew would be taught there now.

I don’t have much faith in the ICJ, but if the genocide case is upheld I hope that British nationals who travelled to serve in Gaza are prosecuted.

Reports re Iran/ Pakistan today are also frightening.

Don't worry about this one, both of their rockets were targeted at the same terrorist group in their respective countries, which geopolitical analysts have suggested may be co-ordinated. So Iran hit the groups base in Pakistan, then Pakistan hit their base in Iran via their airforce without Iran engaging their air defences.

Yes I saw this and no doubt he's going to be cast as a beacon of the community 🤔. That video and subsequent poll he did was absolutely disgusting. He was clearly out to degrade and humiliate and I hope that footage will be used against him.

Fully agree, can't remember which country right now, but there a few groups Lobbying their governments to vet the returnees to ensure that they didn't engage in any crimes in Gaza.

@Desertrose2023 thanks for your posts.

I haven't added anything to any of the Conflict threads for a while. I keep myself updated but haven't been able to write anything as, to be honest, I don't know what to say anymore.

This explanation makes sense of something which is otherwise baffling. I'm hoping this is what happened.

An update on the Levi Simon event. The Charity Commission is apparently looking into concerns that were raised about his invitation to address young boys.

I'm glad something is being done about it. Let's hope there's a good outcome to the investigation.

I have just seen this. It is horrifying. How can those families ever recover their trust in life any more than the families who were victims of Hamas on Oct 7?

Even if they thought every man in the building was a Hamas operative, if the heavily armed IDF could line them up to shoot them, then they were in a position to take them as prisoner for further investigation.

This is just part of the IDF s attitude of shooting every man they see. No wonder they shot the three escaping hostages too.

And what about the little girl who was killed? Have the IDF made any redress?

sadly nothing will be done. This link remembering the anniversary of Tom Hurndell’s killing includes some statistics around how seriously the Israeli army takes cases of extra judicial killing/ murder of civilians by its soldiers. There was only accountability in Tom’s murder because he was white, British and his parents were influential enough to push the British government to demand accountability. Shireen Abu akleh was an American citizen and an internationally known journalist ffs. Rachel Corrie was a white American. If there was no justice for them what chance does your regular Palestinian civilian have?

Here's a video of a witness, whose husband was amongst the victims, retelling what happened on that day. She witnessed her husband being beaten and executed in front of her.

Many of idf members would be better if they spent their time doing videos following the latest stupid trend from SM than killing people as they currently are. I’ve never seen so many disrespectful and disgusting army members. I keep saying it’s a problem to bring anyone that doesn’t really want to be there just for the sake of being young. Going to war is nothing to laugh about. Your laughs are other people’s tears

That is terrible and I have no words anymore. The children could probably hear the gunshots of their fathers being killed. Even if they survive the war, I wonder how they will ever heal these psychological wounds

Sumsummer · 20/01/2024 11:05

The generational trauma is catastrophic.
It's been going on for 75 years.

Thank you for this thread @Desertrose2023 I am hardly able to contribute, because what we are watching is so relentlessly horrific. Completely agree we should continue supporting and engaging with the Palestinian journalists

Another young girl and hugely talented journalist I check on every morning is 9 year old Lama Jamous - incredible she can narrate such awful situations with such severity - https://www.instagram.com/lama_jamous9?igsh=MXRzaDZ5eDY3eGt3OQ==
