The ICJ has decided there’s a plausible risk of genocide.

Anyone with eyes and half a brain cell can see it’s an actual genocide.

"The ICJ has decided there’s a plausible risk of genocide."

Yes.

"Anyone with eyes and half a brain cell can see it’s an actual genocide."

No.
ICJ will not based their findings on hyperbolic rhetoric.

You’re right. The ICJ will base their findings on the facts including the murder of 12,000 Palestinian children, the decimation of all civilian infrastructure and the man made starvation forced on millions. Oh, and the genocidal rhetoric of the Israeli government. Good thing they’ve given them loads isn’t it ?

@Desertrose2023 "The ICJ will base their findings on the facts"

so maybe we'll get a ruling in 3 years time.

Babyboomtastic · 17/02/2024 19:00

Let's look at casualty figures.

If you take 7/10 as the start of this war, even including that awful day, 95% of deaths are Palestinians.

If you start it from the day after (so excluding the events of 7/10) then over 99% of deaths are Palestinians.

Let's look at the wider data

2008-2020 (I didn't choose the dates, it's from https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.statista.com/chart/amp/16516/israeli-palestinian-casualties-by-in-gaza-and-the-west-bank/)

Palestinians account for 95.7% of deaths.

Israel has long been slaughtering Palestinians at a rate of 20 to 1. The rate is such that is exerted the same level of revenge on Israel as has been put on them, three quarters of a million would have to die before the same proportions were reached.

It's not easy, it's committing genocide as revenge.

This chart shows Israeli & Palestinian deaths/injuries documented by the UN in Gaza and the West Bank.

Ladyjanegreysketle · 17/02/2024 17:58

Really.

So by that logic if there is no army then there isn't a war?

this is a massacre

Ladyjanegreysketle · 17/02/2024 19:05

Justpontificating · 17/02/2024 19:02

this is a massacre

So it's not a "war" but a "massacre"? Please enlighten me as to the difference.🤔

Unfortunately too many have their eyes closed.

Unfortunately too many have their eyes closed.

What does that mean?

At the end of the day the ICJ will adjudicate, as it seems they are the authority on this.

inkworks273 · 17/02/2024 19:07

Whether you call it genocide or not doesn't change how absolutely heinous it is.

Israel has killed 30,000 people. 12,000 children. 1 million people starving. No drinking water. 70% of structures destroyed. Barely a functioning hospital. No aid getting in. Sniping people left and right for sport.

But it's ok guys, it's not genocide!

Efacsen · 17/02/2024 19:08

You appear to be mis-interpreting the ICJ response- they acknowledged the seriousness of SA's concerns about the situation in Rafah [in what has been described as 'un-characteristically harsh language].

And said that Israel needs to urgently get on with actioning the the interim ruling from 26th January - not for them to give more directives

SA is happy with that response from the court

Tomatoshish · 17/02/2024 19:08

@Ladyjanegreysketle exactly. I said there has to be at least 2 different armies. There is 1, so it is not a war. It is a genocide. Happy to help.

OK, so when do you think ICJ will announce that?

Tomatoshish · 17/02/2024 19:19

@Ladyjanegreysketle I don't know, do I? But we don't need them to label it. We have our own eyes.

Oh, so you are in Gaza are you?

Tomatoshish · 17/02/2024 19:24

@Ladyjanegreysketle are you deliberately trying to be obnoxious. I don't need to be in gaza.

Tomatoshish · 17/02/2024 19:25

@Ladyjanegreysketle I suppose you must be in Israel then, by your logic.

FOJN · 17/02/2024 19:28

Will the ICJ have to convene in Gaza to make a ruling on genocide?

Sounds like a risky strategy.

Allourkids · 17/02/2024 19:28

Ladyjanegreysketle · 17/02/2024 17:58

Why ????

For the sake of arg, this is the definition:
War; a state of usually open and declared armed hostile conflict between states or nations’

There’s no two states or nations warring here. Gaza (not a state in itself - but let’s say separate region) didn’t attack Israel.
Hamas did. HAMAS are the (c20k) terrorists, not all of the 2.2m Palestinians.

If in the 70s-90s the British Gov had the same idea about tackling IRA, Ireland would still be a pile of dust and to equate population at the time, roughly 100,000 most innocent Irish people would be dead. But that wouldn’t have been the right thing to do, because 100,000 Irish people are not the IRA.

Yet the Israeli Govt and the IDF are attacking unarmed innocent Palestinians of Gaza and their homes, and specifically all of those who have means to tell the story of injustice (Press), help the innocent civilians (clinicians, civil and humanitarian staff) and preserve any Palestinian history, culture or learning (Academics, Palestinian monuments, graveyards).

The terror I would feel as one of the hostages’ relatives watching the IDF rain missiles and sundry in such a non-discriminate manner. The Israeli Govt. wrote off the poor remaining Israeli hostages after the first transfer. It is very obvious that recovering the hostages is secondary to clearing out Gaza.

It’s plain to see that Netanyahu and his cronies are milking this horror for personal benefit, trying to stay as relevant as possible to avoid being voted out and finally facing the consequences of his fraud and corruption charges.

@Ladyjanegreysketlecan I ask you an honest and open question?
What are you looking to achieve when you ask these questions?
Also, what do you feel you must defend in this thread?

Destroying schools, museums, mosques and allegedly looting museum artifacts which is seen as an additional manifestation of genocide
"According to the Geneva Conventions and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, Israel has been committing war crimes that constitute grave violations of international law. These crimes include the widespread and intentional destruction of buildings designated for educational, artistic, scientific, and religious purposes, as well as historical monuments.

Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor stressed that Israel’s actions fall within the framework of its public policies of making the Gaza Strip uninhabitable and expelling its Palestinian residents. Israel is accomplishing precisely this, said Euro-Med Monitor, by establishing a coercive atmosphere devoid of basic services and necessities for survival, i.e. by destroying people’s physical safety and psychological stability, which may ultimately force the Strip’s inhabitants to evacuate."

Israel’s demolition of educational institutions, cultural objects in Gaza is additional manifestation of genocide (euromedmonitor.org)

Israel’s demolition of educational institutions, cultural objects in Gaza is additional manifestation of genocide

The current Israeli military attacks on the Gaza Strip have completely disrupted the educational process in all universities and colleges there, according to Euro-Med Monitor.

I don't know if anyone has been posting these reports some of which are passed to the ICC . I will wait for the deniers to step forward as per usual

That verifies a previous video post ( shown on a MN thread ) of a member of the IDF giving a speech stating
