Right, that still doesn't mean in Gaza waters. Someone has made the assumption that the licenses are being leased in Gazan waters. All sources online state that these are Israeli waters.
Facts should be checked before posted. (Especially if they are sourced from Instagram)

Two more facts.

The Leviathan gas field was not discovered until 2010, long after the Oslo Accords. The Oslo Accords stipulated Gazans could fish 20 nautical miles off shore, since then Israel has incrementally reduced this distance and I believe it now stands at 3 miles. Israel use the navy to enforce this distance and are known to confiscate fishing boats

Territorial waters only extend 12 miles from the coast of a country so at 100km the Leviathan is not in Israeli territorial waters. There is a fairly straight forward process for determining who takes ownership of an oil or gas field that far out at sea. Without exploration there is no way to determine who would own a new gas field discovery. Lebanon is in dispute with Israel about ownership of some parts of the gas fields in the region.

Thank you @FOJN

You must make sure your facts are correct before libeling.
This thread is mostly made up of the same few posters scouring Instagram and twitter in order to catch out Israel and gloat over any of their wrongdoings.

Remember how Israel was called out for saying 40 babies were beheaded and the outrage because it was only a few that were beheaded, the rest were just killed... ?

So please check your facts before quoting "atrocities".

If I recall correctly the licenses were issued in spring/summer last year. I'm making no assumptions, I did a deep dive at the time.

Where is the libel?

Maybe you should check your facts because what you've stated there about October 7th is still incorrect.

Posters are not trying to catch Israel out. Documenting atrocities in a genocide shouldn't bother or threaten you.

Crikey, I missed

"because it was only a few that were beheaded, the rest were just killed... ?"

It's a really bad idea to claim to be a stickler for fact checking when you are repeating widely debunked lies.

One ten month baby was shot in cross fire. I'd describe that as horrific enough.

Documenting facts is fair.
I'm pointing out that documenting exaggerations and untruths is not okay

Thank you! I wish people would stop spreading lies about October 7. Not only because the truth is bad enough, such lies are also being used to justify the atrocities being committed against the Palestinians.

Where is the libel?

Yes, I read that they were authorised in October of last year.

@Tomatoshish stated that "Israel has granted 12 new licenses for gas explorations off the coast of gaza to BP and 5 other gas companies." This implies that Israel is making profit off water that belongs to Gaza. Based on all that I've read this isn't factually correct which is why I called it a libel.

It's only libel if you think Israel can own whatever it likes just by laying claim to it.

Jeremy Scahill of the Intercept gave an excellent interview on how Netanyahu and his government have weaponised misinformation and untruths in order to justify their acts in Gaza. By painting Palestinians as barbarians and dehumanising them, people are less likely to question the actions that the IDF is taking. The MSM has also failed as they amplify the Israeli claims and rarely go back to correct the record so many people repeat the debunked claims.

anotherlevel · 17/02/2024 12:33

Happy birthday to him I hope the Palestinian who is blindfolded and tied up is enjoying it just as much.

Honestly do they not see themselves?
Disgusting.

Claims that Israel bombed a bus full of passengers in Gaza, burning everyone to death.

I've heard the "this is what happens in a war" nonsense all over these boards too. This isn't a normal war.

Tomatoshish · 17/02/2024 13:24

@ConnieCounter exactly! It's not a war at all.... you need at least 2 armies fighting for it to be a war.

Sobering figures. It is a stain on Israel that will never wash out.

Yes, that ‘This is war. Too bad’ quip, is irritating and stupid.

There is no standard official ‘war method’ - setting out the numbers to be killed, how they are to be killed, how people are to be treated while alive, or how they are to be captured - common to all wars across all time, within all contexts.

Ladyjanegreysketle · 17/02/2024 16:40

@ConnieCounter This isn't a normal war.

So what's a "normal war" and how is this different?

Allourkids · 17/02/2024 16:51

It’s not a war, full stop.

Babyboomtastic · 17/02/2024 16:58

It's not war. Its revenge/punishment.

Ladyjanegreysketle · 17/02/2024 17:58

Tomatoshish · 17/02/2024 13:24

@ConnieCounter exactly! It's not a war at all.... you need at least 2 armies fighting for it to be a war.

Really.

So by that logic if there is no army then there isn't a war?

Desertrose2023 · 17/02/2024 18:15

Ladyjanegreysketle · 17/02/2024 17:58

Because it’s a genocide.

Because it’s a genocide.

And who has decided that?

Desertrose2023 · 17/02/2024 18:19

Ladyjanegreysketle · 17/02/2024 18:18

And who has decided that?

The ICJ has decided there’s a plausible risk of genocide.

Anyone with eyes and half a brain cell can see it’s an actual genocide.
