The IDF (well, its pre-cursors for a while, foremost among them the Haganah) most certainly did exist in the 40s. In its current form, it has existed since 1948.

Technically, for the tiniest part of the decade, so did Netanyahu (he was born in 1949), but, no, of course he was not a player back then. He had his 1st term as PM in the 1990s.

And no, Hamas would not exist for another ~40 years - it was founded in 1987.

... but then, none of this started with Bibi and Hamas!

When I said "try the 1940s" what I actually meant was "talking about August 2023 in terms of how long this has been happening to Palestinians seems like a bit of an understatement".

Apologies I thought you were referring to the holocaust

Apologies I thought you were referring to the holocaust

I assumed as much - hence the explanation.

What I actually meant was the Nakba (1948).

Absolutely @HeidiInTheBigCity. Sorry I didn't mean to minimise things.

I did not understand it as such!

Just ... I hear so much talk from people who are generally good and full of empathy - IRL even more so than on MN - that focusses a lot too much on "how this is mainly Netanyahu", "all about Hamas", even people who say things such as "open-air prison" when referring to Gaza, but never on the fundamental issues (I am not saying these are not issues - just: not the big or fundamental ones!).

... so, I now just very habitually make sure to point this out!

Khalidi's "Hundred Years' War on Palestine" is an excellent book on this, by the way!

When the Al-Nasr hospital in Northern Gaza was attacked and evacuated by the IDF, the medical staff in the NICU refused to leave, but were led out at gunpoint.

IDF soldiers told clinicians that help would be given to the babies they were treating, who couldn’t not be evacuated without specialist transport.

But when there was ‘humanitarian pause’ a fortnight later, when the first hostage exchange took place, journalists returned to the Al-Nasr hospital to find the premature babies decomposing in their beds having been just left to die by the IDF. What an evil.

This video evidence is very upsetting, so please view with caution:

Thankyou for posting.
Horrific images.
This is pure Evil
Why would anyone believe a word Israel and the IDF say.

As an aside along with your insta post there was a piece taken in Egypt.
A man selling food on a stall heard that the trucks passing him by in the street were on their way to Gaza carrying aid and so he started throwing food into the trucks.
The kindness of strangers is so humbling

Allourkids · 15/02/2024 20:43

I saw that too. It made me weep - his kindness was so willing for Palestinians during this horrific a time. There’s so many like him who want to help, but can’t

Short video about an article written in Hebrew in Haaretz. It's written as a lifestyle article about the food IDF soldiers are eating in Gaza. They are supplementing their rations with food they find left in abandoned houses, cooking the food in the abandoned houses and then posting to social media. All the while Gazans are starving, Israelis are blocking aid to Gaza and the IDF are proudly posting footage of themselves destroying food aid that does get in.

Efacsen · 15/02/2024 22:31

@FOJN it's very very cruel isn't it - deliberately cruel and sadistic

This father cries as he tells of the scarcity of food and how starvation is killing people. In the link below, he discusses how his son tragically died of hunger. It's just so upsetting and unfathomable.

I just don't know what to say anymore. It's so hard to watch that I just can't understand the people who perpetrate such cruelty.

I can't thank you for your post, I didn't want to see that but I feel I have to bear witness to the horrors our government is complicit in.

That man's pain is so palpable, imagine holding your child as they died from starvation resulting from a man made famine while the world looks on and does nothing. And some people will even say you brought it on yourself for not overthrowing Hamas whilst you faced a daily struggle just to keep your family alive.

anotherlevel · 15/02/2024 23:29

@FOJN I'm sorry if sharing it was wrong.

Having kids myself you can just feel his pain but whatever feeling we'd imagine it could be would no where be near as much.

Whatever their thoughts were on Hamas, being killed and tortured like this isn't the answer or proportionate.

Sorry I don't think I expressed myself very well. No decent person wants to ever hear about a child starving to death but it isn't wrong to share the reality of what's happening in Gaza, it's just very upsetting.

Tomatoshish · 16/02/2024 12:21

I haven't been on here as much recently..i apologise. I'm struggling to watch everything constantly all the time

I have to say though the people of palestine have humbled me so much and my heart breaks for them and I hold my children that little bit tighter.

I don't know when or if this ends. But I'm appalled at how little the world is doing.

inkworks273 · 16/02/2024 12:21

And one for those who might not care about humanity. But they might care about the environment.....

Although not sure if you can care for one and not the other. But I guess that's a different topic!

Israel has granted 12 new licenses for gas explorations off the coast of gaza to BP and 5 other gas companies. The reserves are in palestinian waters and any palestinian fisherman going into these waters are being fired at. The gas companies with the licenses are profiting from genocide.

To correct you here. The Leviathan Gas Field in discussion is located over 100km off the coast. After the Oslo accord signed by both parties Gaza only has the rights to a couple of miles of coastal waters so these gas license are being leased from Israeli waters, not Palestinian.
(And these negotiations were underway a long time before this current war started)

You must be more careful on getting the facts right before posting publicly online.

These are licences for exploration of an area west of the Leviathan Gas field, not the Leviathan Gas field itself.

Right, that still doesn't mean in Gaza waters. Someone has made the assumption that the licenses are being leased in Gazan waters. All sources online state that these are Israeli waters.
Facts should be checked before posted. (Especially if they are sourced from Instagram)

And yet much has been made of the "royalties" Gaza would receive if a profitable gas field is found.

You must make sure your facts are correct before libeling.
This thread is mostly made up of the same few posters scouring Instagram and twitter in order to catch out Israel and gloat over any of their wrongdoings.

Remember how Israel was called out for saying 40 babies were beheaded and the outrage because it was only a few that were beheaded, the rest were just killed... ?

So please check your facts before quoting "atrocities".
