@ConnieCounter "they could use them as an excuse to carpet bomb Rafah and kill and maim more children and babies."

I don't think you know what 'carpet bomb' actually means?

If IDF had carpet-bombed Rafah it would be a smoking ruin. Please don't post such emotive garbage.

You've tagged the wrong person. I never said any of that.

@EasterIssland the timing was certainly fortuitous! Time will tell.

UK announces sanctions on 4 'extremist' Israeli settlers

Is this being reported, or where did you see it?

I’ve seen this now from three different sources on one on twitter and on a couple of message boards. Totally independent sources and not from the uk in one case.

I don’t know how the underscoring has happened ? It’s not intentional.

Just coming on to say the same thing, the hostages were not liberated from Rafah last night, they were being held in Khan Younis and were rescued there the day before. But very handy for Israel really wasn’t it, they could use them as an excuse to carpet bomb Rafah and kill and maim more children and babies. How disgusting.

@Livinginanotherworld I've seen a few reports saying the same.

But, also (from Reuters):-

Lt Col Richard Hecht said the operation was based on “precise intelligence” and that the site, on the second floor of a building, had been watched for “some time”.

If israel have precise intelligence why herd 1000's of Palestinians to Rafah and deem it a safe zone before carrying out airstrikes?

Maybe @Livinginanotherworld just say indiscriminately kill and mame even more innocent civilians including children, the elderly, the disabled and babies born and unborn, reporters and doctors and nurses. Including by removing all infrastructure, means of support and starving everyone to death.

Thats more accurate.
Then Israel can carpet bomb and bulldoze everything.

I think the poor people of Gaza might not agree with you on that one. They are the people whose opinion is important.

stomachameleon · 12/02/2024 16:20

@starfleet you can need to do more than one thing during a conflict.

@Livinginanotherworld 'Carpet-bombing' is a military term. It is not being used over Gaza as the area is too small.

Are you telling me that the people in Gaza are military strategists?

Your post makes no sense.

If the IDF really wanted to 'carpet bomb and bulldoze everything' as you say they could have done that in a week.

So if what you say is true about their motivation, why do you think they didn't do that?

Take a look at Netenyahus map of the new Middle East presented at theUNGA September 2023……..
The motivation is obvious.

Because they were heavily criticised at the GA
So they are seeking justification at every turn…..
oh but we re defending ourselves
oh but hamas are there
oh but they’re in that hospital
oh but that 2year old is hamas
they are going for the slow burn to get some support ….. that’s going well then 🤣🤣🤣

Another source I’ve just seen is saying the Times of Israel put up a post on 19th Dec which was edited on 07 Feb saying same hostage was released ?? Argentinian born Louis Har
What is going on ?? I’ve tried to screen shot but can’t

@Livinginanotherworld @ConnieCounter

I saw this on another thread but I thought it's relevant here too.

The Rafah Operation gravely violates international law.

The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs has said he is in no doubt that "the continued bombardment on Rafah will constitute a war crime" and "gravely violates international humanitarian law".
Micheál Martin was speaking after Israeli special forces launched an operation in the southern Gaza city in which at least 67 people were killed and two Israeli hostages freed.
"We are looking at now what is the largest refugee camp in the world in terms of 1.5 million people in Rafah," Mr Martin said.
"They cannot be displaced safely.
"To bomb and to mount a military operation in such a confined area with so many people is absolutely inhumane, unacceptable, and the international community must do everything it possibly can to put the pressure on Israel not to proceed with this invasion.
"It is very, very, serious. It will create catastrophic conditions on top of what are already dire situations for families and civilians in Gaza."

www.rte.ie/news/middle-east/2024/0212/1431864-rafah-gaza-martin/

I don't understand why posters are still defending this strategy used by the IDF.

Livinginanotherworld · 12/02/2024 17:25

Quite a few on X are posting the coincidence of the two released hostages being Argentinian after the mad chap has just been visiting Israel as well. I know it’s all speculation, but people are questioning all these things. It’s all a bit convenient to me. I don’t know what to think anymore.

Syria have just said they will join the war against Israel too.

Meanwhile David Cameron said he’s “deeply concerned” ……..whilst still sending arms and training IDF forces on uk bases.

Killing all these Hamas babies and children and their families is thirsty work. I'm glad they have this fancy coffee station to quench their thirst whilst thousands and thousands are hungry, thirsty, deprived of everything basic.

That is horrible rubbing their faces in it. Children malnourished and starving and they manage to get a coffee truck through? They are just cruel evil people. This is so unnecessary. You cannot compare the IDF to soldiers from most other developed nations. Remember the British and American soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq supporting the distribution of aid and giving it out themselves. They thankfully did not lose their humanity when they became soldiers.

US/UK: “oh we’re concerned about all the casualties”
“There is a humanitarian disaster”
”Going into Rafah would be disastrous”
”Very concerning”

Also US/UK: UNRWA, your funding is cut. Israel, here’s a bunch of weapons and money
