Israel/Hamas War - Ceasefire

Toggenburgsaregreat · 15/01/2024 10:01

Each Saturday we are seeing demonstrations in London where people are marching with placards and calling for a ceasefire in the Hamas/Israel war.

However, it is difficult to know how the supporters of Palestine think this can be achieved? (Interestingly, no calls for Hamas to cease hostilities and return the hostages were heard - so is this really a call for unilateral disarmament?)

And who should Israel negotiate a ceasefire with? Hamas, ISIS, ISSP, The Muslim Brotherhood - all of these groups/any of these groups?

What is it the supporters of Palestine actually want?

From the NYT:

"The New York Times this morning reports that Hamas informed the negotiators yesterday – as part of its counteroffer to Israel’s proposal – that not all of the 33 hostages to be released in the first stage would still be alive, but their remains would be returned."

WTF - why were they not returned whilst they were alive???

Edited

Netanyahu refused the remains of deceased hostages in the previous exchange.

@stomachamelon Is Jonny Daniels your source from Instagram for all your updates?

ScrollingLeaves · 07/07/2024 18:57

Thank you both for the two news sources about the ceasefire deal, both credible sources. It worth reading both because there are some important details added in the Guardian one about Netanyahu’s possible balking.

Haaretz newspaper.

CEASE-FIRE/HOSTAGES: Egypt will host Israeli and U.S. delegations for talks on "outstanding points" in a potential hostage/cease-fire deal between Israel and Hamas, Egypt's state-linked al-Qahera News TV reported, citing a high-level source.

  1. Israel presented a "tough stance" in negotiations over the weekend, a source familiar with the details told Haaretz, while another source warned that Israel presented new demands that are expected to delay a possible deal, and that it was not clear whether Hamas would accede to them.
  1. "Hamas has already agreed to the latest position presented by Israel. But in Friday's meeting, Israel presented some new points it demands that Hamas accept," said the source.
  1. Yehuda Cohen, whose son Nimrod is held hostage in Gaza, accused the government of aiming to thwart a deal. "We know that, after many efforts, a deal is now taking shape, and we can already hear ministers shouting threats and wishes that the deal will fail," he said at a demonstration in front of the home of Israel's labor federation chief.

Israel's new demands are expected to delay completion of hostage deal, sources say

“The demand to monitor everyone moving north is a retraction of our concession on the matter,” one source is quoted as saying. “The IDF will know how to deal with the situation even if armed fighters return to the north, and we can find a solution with the Americans.
“This is a demand that will prevent a deal,” the source says. “In the best case, it is an obstacle that will make the continuation [of talks] more difficult, and in the worst case, it is aimed as a spoke in the negotiations’ wheel and at eliminating the ability to reach a deal

Yes, It appears everytime they're getting close to agreeing terms the goal posts are moved by netanyahu. Does feel like he doesn't want a ceasefire deal or is that pushed on releasing the hostages

Really?

I certainly do.

Russia and Ukraine are at war. Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Iraq, Yemen, Syria, Somalia, Libya, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Myanmar, Colombia, and Mali are currently in civil wars.

Yemen is the world’s worst humanitarian crisis according to the U.N.

But I don't see anyone on the streets of London calling for a cessation of these hostilities.

It begs the question " do dead children only matter if Israelis are killing them"

Exactly. It’s all very one-sided on here. Where is the outrage for what happened on October 7th? About the women and girls who were raped, murdered, tortured and mutilated? About the children shot in their beds? The charred remains of babies found in ovens?

Probably you should verify what you’re saying whether it’s true before you request others to be outraged by it

Where is the outrage for what happened on October 7th?

There was plenty of outrage expressed multiple times about what happened on October 7th.
Where is the outrage? If that is a genuine question maybe go through the multiple threads and thousands of posts since then to read it.
Do you want us to continue exclaiming our outrage and horror on a daily basis for eternity or can we get on with discussing the current issues as they arise?

The charred remains of babies found in ovens?

It was an outrage, but there were no babies on ovens.

Yes of course missed that bit. The poster must have missed the past 9 months of news since then

The baby in the oven misinformation was particularly sadistic as that actually did happen, but to a Palestinian Baby during the Deir yassin massacre when the Nakba occurred in the 1940s. Trigger warning this article contains graphic details of atrocities committed against a family during the Nakba.

The similarities between some of the discredited accusations and the actual events of Deir Yassin are cruel in the extreme.

Scirocco · 12/07/2024 15:21

October 7th was horrific, one of the worst terrorist attacks this century. The stark facts of it are terrible enough. I hope those responsible for every life lost and every life changed forever are held accountable to the full extent of the law, and I have faith that, when it comes to the next life, there will be justice.

Absolutely, I felt sick when I read and viewed the testimonies of what occurred. The trauma caused to those who suffered, only an extremely sick mind would make something like that.
Similarly, I felt sick about the atrocities committed on the 7th October and those who executed it.
And yes! May of these monsters dead or alive be judged accordingly whether in this life or the next.

Maybe because the title of the thread is
Israel/ Hamas war ceasefire.

Why talk about other wars on this thread!

If you read back over all the news articles since last October you will see most of your post has been proven as lies.
If you go back over all the MN threads as well you will see these have already been discussed
