All things considered, this is the worst thing I’ve ever read (and I’ve studied a lot of history).

Seriously, if you are a survivor of SA it’s probably best you do not read this article.

It's truly horrific. Beyond comprehension.

There's a good thread here on the same subject

etmoiandme · 29/12/2023 15:11

Not sure I can read the full thing but I did read the NYT piece yesterday and it's a truly awful but absolutely essential read. I'm not religious but have prayed in my own way for the family of Gal Abdush and also the families whose daughter/sister/mother suffered similarly. Just horrific what they must be going through.

@BigFrau Yes, that was an excellent and much-needed thread.

Mushroomsouptonight · 29/12/2023 18:45

I have read of some of these recounts but there are new ones in this longer report. Horrific mutilation of sexual organs, Horrific rapes. No words.

I understand the grief and anger after this happened.

This one is longer and even harder to read. Appalling.

stomachamaleon · 29/12/2023 19:44

There are just no words. It takes all the 'special reports' for Jewish women to be believed.
Perhaps we need to do a mark 2 in light of new information.
Why have critical voices stayed quiet?
I fear I know the answer.
Thanks for the thread @Solaris89

Thank you for the warning op, wish everyone did that

Personally I am still waiting for Owen Jones and others to apologise but I won't hold my breath. More likely we will continue to see apologisers and denial from all the same people.

I just don't get why they think admitting what happened in the pogrom somehow isn't acceptable to their own views or cause. People may actually take them more seriously if they showed empathy and compassion for all innocent victims of the conflict

stomachamaleon · 29/12/2023 21:16

@Trulywonderful I read an article today that said more people who purport to be pro Palestinian are really just transfixed on discrediting and slating Jews and Zionism. Actual human rights goes out the window.

This. If OJ was as principled as he assures us then there wouldn't have been any problem with unequivocally condemning what happened on 7/10 without the full smorgasbord of "but", "need even more evidence" caveats. I mean, he went to an actual screening of what happened that day FFS.

But people like him know as soon as they show any kind of compassion or solidarity to people they perceive as 'the other side' then their more entrenched supporters do an about-turn on them. For OJ this means his monetised media channel suffers. I think Paul Mason's a good example of someone on the left who is pretty much hated now by the ideological hard-left because he's outspoken against Putin, STWC, JC ( rather belatedly) and has increasingly called out antisemitism. They can't stand moderation or nuance so they think he's sold-out his left wing principles, which is nonsense. But these folks are so wedded to their anti-Zionist ideology it's actually fried their brains, and so denial/minimisation of the rape and mutilation of Jewish Israeli women is preferable to condemnation and meaningful empathy.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 29/12/2023 23:53

For OJ women are 'the other side'. He has a long history of misogyny (aside from his anti-semitism)

Remind me how long it was for this atrocious event to be recognised by the UN?

Also, is there a specific word something like femicide/VAWG to describe sexual violence (and I don't even like using the word sexual here) as a weapon of war and specifically against women - the targeting of women for rape, assault, mutilation, etc? There should be.

Teentaxidriver · 30/12/2023 00:00

Beyond evil. I cannot imagine the pain and suffering of those poor women and girls. The UN took two months to acknowledge the sexual violence and barbarity. A fucking travesty.

etmoiandme · 30/12/2023 00:04

Oh I firmly believe OJ absolutely despises women, as much if not more so than Zionists, so that was his starting point anyway.

Yeah it was something like 57 days.

WilmaWonka · 30/12/2023 01:45

None of the usual posters hysterically screeching about Israel’s ‘war crimes’ on this thread I see.

Jessiepaintyourpicture · 30/12/2023 01:51

Does the Koran have anything to say about the rape and brutalisation of women?

Josette77 · 30/12/2023 01:55

So sickening... Not sure why the stories of brutal rapes were not believed to begin with...

Actually I do.

Good to put a trigger warning.
Only thing I would say is that this has been about since early October. Some of it on the day. It’s good to be sceptical but that this is new to some people reeks of denial and revisionism. Not necessarily by the people themselves but it’s sinister that it’s taken so long to be verified.

BritneyBookClubPresident · 30/12/2023 07:59

This is beyond words or understanding

It is more a case of Islamic exstemists using passages about war to let them carry out whatever sexual crimes and sex slave act they want to justify. Some dodgy religious leaders say it is allowed. There are videos of them saying this online but this is not a mainstream way of thinking or interpretation of the Quran.

Hostages still going through it,

No surprise then that the ceasefire was broken by Hamas so they didn’t have to release all the hostages and can pretend that lots of young women died from Israeli bombing.

I’m not Jewish or Israeli but I honestly have never felt so angry after the events of Oct 7th, especially Shani Louk’s naked, brutalised body being paraded and spat on by civilians (my own DD is the same age), the further reports of gang rape, beheadings, mutilations and burning alive of adults and children AND people actually supporting the monsters who did this by protesting in the streets condemning Israel for rightly retaliating to stop this ever happening again knowing full well they’ve been set up for condemnation by the Hamas strategy of using their civilians as canon fodder and a well planned SM propaganda campaign.

I can’t imagine how angry Israelis are if that’s the way I felt.
