All things considered, this is the worst thing I’ve ever read (and I’ve studied a lot of history).

Seriously, if you are a survivor of SA it’s probably best you do not read this article.

Thank you for posting this, OP. I've read that article on the evening it was published and I'm still haunted by the details. Did set up a mumsnet account just to publish the link, but couldn't find words to do it.

This report https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2023/12/22/world/europe/beeri-massacre.html?searchResultPosition=2 is also harrowing.

It's beyond me why most media kept silent about it, even though the scale of atrocities was known pretty much from day one. Even the bloody UN took all the time it could!
I find it sickening that degenerate criminals who in any civilised society would rot behind bars are glorified by some as 'freedom fighters'. Sinwar seems to love mentioning martyrdom -- the real martyrs were those women, not lowlifes who robbed them of life and dignity.

My heart goes to the families of the victims, and to ZAKA members and first responders at the scene. Words fail me here.

The Day Hamas Came

No Israeli town suffered more bloodshed than Be’eri in the Hamas attacks on Oct. 7.

crowstreet · 30/12/2023 14:31

Exactly this.

Murica · 30/12/2023 14:57

I haven't read the full article yet, it's too upsetting to read all at once.
One thing I find especially frustrating about the deniers and the minimizers and the apologists, is that had they or their loved ones been there that day, they would have suffered the same fate. The terrorists didn't ask anyone their ethnic background, religion, politics or national origin before murdering and raping and torturing. It could have been you!

Anotherdayanotherdiet · 30/12/2023 15:05

Sorry but we all know this. You are just doing whataboutism now

Well we all know about the mass rapes don’t we? At least no-ones said “terribly sad but these things happen in war” which is the line that’s usually trotted out when reference is made to the death toll in Gaza.

BigFrau · 30/12/2023 15:09

Another one 🙄

And FYI that very phrase has been said many times, albeit not on MN.
But well done for scoring your point on such a thread as this. 👏

Thank you

It is the people that go an extra bit further to highlight or support (such as yourself creating an account just to make comment or a link) that give me some hope others see what I see. Sometimes on here it feels like only a handful of us mostly Jewish mumsneters care about what happened to these people. Even then we get told not to talk about it or antisemitism rising because others have it worse or stuff like that.

They just saw what that post before them said. It is so good, to the point and honest about the reality of who the victims of the pogrom were. Then spam!

Actually I hadn’t I’d only got as far as the comment I responded to (funnily enough)

BigFrau · 30/12/2023 15:34

Yes, such a spot-on post from @Murica

Sometimes I think the whatabouterers nearly get it... e.g. the poster who said it could be her children under the rubble, obviously that's awful and surely it's not much of a mental leap to think others could feel the same about the women and girls in the Hamas attack? That others posting here could imagine friends, sisters, daughters tortured, raped and murdered on Oct 7? And that's why emotions run so high?
It's like they're so, so close to understanding from a female POV, and then...nope

No , they've just said that probably didn't happen and that it doesn't matter because it was only one day.

Sorry, too late to edit my previous post but wanted to say, of course, not just "imagine". Sorry for clumsy phrasing.

Some posters here actually knew people in those attacks 💐

Actually everyone doesn't know about the rapes, the brutal sexual torture, destroying women's sexual organs because lots of people have actually suggested it's made up, lies, didn't happen because... you know 'Israel ..
blah blah etc' due to basic anti semitism. That's why people bear witness.

Have they really though?
It doesn’t matter because it was only one day? Who said that?

A poster further up from you who has had post deleted, and another earlier on again post deleted to name a couple. Then you pop along questioning if people said it. They did. We all saw the posts, they were there and then deleted, just because you didn't see them doesn't mean people didn't say it!

Anotherdayanotherdiet · 30/12/2023 16:10

Well I can’t read deleted posts can I? 🤷‍♀️

Indeed you cannot but you can come on and ask who said it questioning it, as not true.... you can come on and derail, you came along and said 'we all know about the rapes....' it appears lots don't or deny, or minimise or derail....in fact anything but accept and feel empathy and sadness for the victims and families.

I wonder why 🙄

Anotherdayanotherdiet · 30/12/2023 16:21

ndeed you cannot but you can come on and ask who said it questioning it, as not true.... you can come on and derail, you came alone and said 'we all know about the rapes....' it appears lots don't or deny, or minimise or derail....in fact anything but accept and feel empathy and sadness fir the victims and families.

I would imagine most people know about rapes. Probably even the people who deny it happened know full well it did.

As for my original comment I was being sarky I admit but the poster I was responding to does have a habit of saying things like that (and also derailing threads if the truth be told).

I can think of a few reasons why someone might not be able to make that leap. None of them favorable.

“I served on the Board of Directors for The Rape Foundation for almost 20 years,” the 57-year-old actor wrote on his Instagram.

Well I didn't know that! He says a lot of knowledgeable things that are included in the link

One of the deleted posts said exactly that

Literally

Josette77 · 30/12/2023 17:15

Why is a thread about sexual violence and brutality against women and children in Israel by terrorists, being taken over to discuss Gaza?

The lack of respect for victims is disgusting and appalling.

So you just assumed that no one said that even though you couldn't be sure, and some of the responses to the deleted posts alluded to what was said. But hey any excuse to lecture people.

BigFrau · 30/12/2023 17:42

That is indeed truly awful @justasking111 and worthy of a post on the FWR board or somewhere appropriate, out of respect not to derail this thread
