Part 3.

I hope they come home soon and there's no need for a part 4.

@EllaDisenchanted that's so sad.

I watched Rachel, Hersch's mum do her speech yesterday in the square in Tel Aviv. It was very moving.
'The most vulnerable' Her words are just so..... overwhelming.

Another hostage deal is being negotiated. Hamas continues to insist they will only negotiate after a ceasefire is in effect.

(edited typo)

Efacsen · 25/12/2023 10:49

@EllaDisenchanted it seems like JIP are taking the same line as Hamas but maybe having JIP more formally involved will shed some light on exactly which hostages they are holding as opposed to Hamas. And even maybe provide some more clues as to the identity of hostages held by 'others' if only by exclusion

stomachamaleon · 25/12/2023 12:53

@EllaDisenchanted has there been any more discussions on the Bibas family that you are aware of?

EllaDisenchanted · 25/12/2023 13:06

@stomachamaleon nothing at all. Most of what I’m hearing is released hostages beginning to share their experiences, and some of them confirmed some of the other hostages are alive and that they saw them.
I don’t have the sources right now, but seen a few different places confirming sexual assault and rape of hostage (times of Israel I think and i24)
In one place I saw that abortions were needed, but I don’t remember the source nor have I seen it elsewhere. Given the sensitivity, it is possible that this has been not shared for privacy reasons, or maybe it didn’t happen and was speculation 🤷‍♀️ wouldn’t surprise me unfortunately, but no way of knowing.
The Bibas family are still very much in everyone’s thoughts, but we still have no confirmation here of whether Hamas were lying, for psychological terror, or not.

Hamas and PIJ reject Egyptian proposed (permanent) ceasefire

https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/hamas-islamic-jihad-reject-egypts-proposal-to-give-up-power-in-gaza-in-return-for-ceasefire-report/

EllaDisenchanted · 25/12/2023 14:01

to clarify - I think it means initially temporary truce, but with a proposed pathway to a permanent ceasefire.

SomeCatFromJapan · 25/12/2023 14:05

Quite strong signals of willingness from Saudi and the UAE to oversee administration of both Gaza and the West bank, but that does not include Hamas as part of the equation. This seems to be the deal that was rejected.

I suppose senior Hamas figures don't want to give up their lucrative income streams, and if that means more deaths then that's a price they are happy to pay.

Parkingt111 · 25/12/2023 22:21

I have been looking to see if there's anything new from the Qatari side but I can't see anything.
I have just seen on sky news that Hamas has said again no hostage release until a full ceasefire, not a temporary pause.

I have seen Yair Lapid's criticism today too but then I take that with a pinch of salt as he is the opposition so will ofcourse be critical to an extent.
Seems to be in a deadlock at the moment and at some point, something will have to give as the pressure is mounting on both sides. Once again the innocent people are paying for it.

SomeCatFromJapan · 25/12/2023 22:46

I don't think the Israelis will agree to a ceasefire deal that leaves Hamas in control in Gaza.

I don't think Netanyahu will. But the way Hamas leaders are acting they don't seem close to being defeated either. They still think they have the upper hand when it comes to negotiating.
I don't know what's going to happen but right now it's all looking pretty grim

SomeCatFromJapan · 25/12/2023 22:51

Gaza is their cash source, no wonder they don't want to give it up.

stomachamaleon · 25/12/2023 22:58

@SomeCatFromJapan you think they wouldn't be able to spend much more than they have.

Gadi Chagai (73) confirmed as killed in captivity. Body remains in Gaza. His wife (70) is still hostage

@EllaDisenchanted Gadi Chagai's wife Judy Weinstein also confirmed as deceased

The kibbutz Nir Oz in southern Israel has confirmed the death of Judy Weinstein, one of the hostages taken by Hamas during the 7 October terror attacks.

Weinstein, 70, an American Canadian Israeli triple citizen, was “fatally wounded” on 7 October during the attacks alongside her Israeli American husband, Gadi Haggai, 73, a spokesperson for the kibbutz said.

The bodies of the couple “remain held in captivity by Hamas”, a statement said. It continued:

Judy was an English teacher, who specialised in teaching children with special needs. For the past few years she has also taught mindfulness to children and teenagers who suffered from anxiety caused by the ongoing rocket fire from Gaza.

and this statement from the father of Agam Berger (19)

its been 83 days that they’ve been trapped in hell. If they are released can Yarden Bibas even recover from what was done to him? Can the girls who have been raped and terrorised recover? I don’t want to be pessimistic, but it’s hard to hold on to hope.

saw this tonight as well:

Hamas have also tried to suggest that Oran Shaul is still alive although it's highly unlikely. He (or his dead body) was kidnapped in 2014. They released this yesterday on what would be his 30th birthday.

@EllaDisenchanted I saw an American presenter read that letter out and burst into tears whilst doing it.
It was really moving (I want to say cbs but I may be wrong)

Edited

It’s psychological warfare, there’s no way he is alive imo, they’d have been parading him and negotiating for his release for a long time

Ilan Weiss, kibbutz be’eri, father of two released hostages, confirmed to have been killed.

Doesn’t sound like he was taken hostage, or his body is being held in Gaza, so am assuming his remains must have taken until now to identify.
