Part 3.

I hope they come home soon and there's no need for a part 4.

Unbelievable.

It really is.

quantumbutterfly · 31/01/2024 11:28

It will be a long and gruesome task to sift through the evidence when this war that hamas instigated is over.

quantumbutterfly · 31/01/2024 11:31

I suppose we can assume that people taken by Israel are in Israel and have not been sold or passed on to other groups as was rumoured with the 7/10 hostages.
As king Hussein said in the 50 years war series, the worst kind of people from all over the world have been attracted to this fight.

We simply dont know.

These are people that are reported missing last seen in the presence of the IDF/Israeli police. Many times they disappear for months, before turning up on a detained list. For example, the oldest known hostage Fahmiyah Saeed Antar (82), was missing for two months before she was located.

Israel has previously handed people over to the MIT (Turkish equivalent of MI6) and the CIA, who have a number of torture blacksites in the region, but it seems that most of their torture is now being done in house, so it is likely that they are still being held by Israel.

Almost all of those links are unverified claims from social media accounts.

The 6000 figure will be of suspected militants/terrorists. I'm not claiming that all are and I have no way of knowing either way but nor would I describe them as hostages.

@Efacsen this is what I'm talking about when I say there's a lot of unverified information posted and accepted uncritically.

Cailleachian · 31/01/2024 12:43

@SomeCatFromJapan Feel free to debunk if you think that Al Jazeera, Physicians for Human Rights Israel. the IDF radio station and the Red Crescent are lying, Or if you believe the audio, video and photos are doctored.

There have definately been a lot of lies told about hostages, so any insight is welcomed

quantumbutterfly · 31/01/2024 13:33

What lies have been told about the hostages?

@Cailleachian any evidence for your post about babies being held?

From Twitter ( Aviva Klompas)

The Washington Post outlines a hostage deal to which Israel has broadly agreed and Hamas is now considering. It would see the release of all civilian hostages in exchange for:
➡️ A 6-week pause in the war
➡️ Israeli forces withdrawing from population centers, but not entirely from Gaza
➡️ Increased humanitarian aid
➡️ The release of 3 Palestinian prisoners for every Israeli returned

I can't believe Israel would consider this. The very people who took part in the slaughter on 7th October.

Netanyahu has already made a statement on this, he’s not in favour. Let’s face it, he doesn’t seem to be that bothered about getting the hostages back. He says he will not withdraw troops either. I can’t see any hope in this latest round of negotiations.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 01/02/2024 02:45

The people Hamas want releasing, probably the four worst possible. . Israel would be insane to agree. I suspect Hamas know there's no chance and will then blame Israel for a no deal.

This.

They are convicted terrorists. Will likely kill again on release

Efacsen · 01/02/2024 07:39

The leader of Hamas is expected in Cairo on Thursday for talks on a proposed truce in Gaza.

Difficult to know what's going on and what can be taken seriously

Re-building of Gaza also allegedly on the agenda

quantumbutterfly · 01/02/2024 08:37

Hamas has an enabler not a leader.
It's a game to them and the victims are just pawns.

Efacsen · 01/02/2024 09:59

Talks have reportedly started with Egypt and Qatar mediating

stomachameleon · 01/02/2024 18:49

@hogmanayhoolie ain't that the truth.

Hamas gives 'initial positive confirmation' to ceasefire proposal, Qatar says

It's apparently expected to take a further couple of days to hear and then a further 2 weeks of negotiation if Hamas agrees to go ahead

Israel has already given confirmation that they wish to move to the negotiation stage

No good quote few vague long waffly ones only

EllaDisenchanted · 02/02/2024 08:16

Thanks @Efacsen . I’ve seen lots of bits and pieces but nothing confirmed, or verified anywhere, so didn’t want to share until I saw something more concrete. Definitely pointing towards some kind of ceasefire for hostages exchange.

Efacsen · 02/02/2024 09:02

Agree @EllaDisenchanted very little concrete information and Qatar have already been criticised for 'talking up' the 'initial positive confirmation' headlines*

Still very very early days I suspect

*Guardian today and yesterday

Efacsen · 03/02/2024 20:23

This is a bit odd - why is he in Qatar not Cairo? Maybe a typo

The head of Turkey’s national intelligence chief (MIT), Ibrahim Kalin, has met the Hamas leader, Ismail Haniyeh, in Qatar, Turkish state media reported.
