This is slightly at a tangent but has anyone been following the shooting of the brave Israeli Yuval Castleman. He took on the 2 terrorists at the bus stop in Jerusalem . He himself was then shot dead by an IDF soldier despite being on his knees, hands up and shouting he was an Israeli. His body just been exhumed over more controversy.
This article discusses it (the IDF released several statements indicating that its rules of engagement forbid firing upon suspects with their hands raised), the arming of settlers and the director of Breaking the Silence said, "from what he’s witnessed, rules of engagement for soldiers are “becoming more flexible making it easier to shoot.”

Vigilante culture in Israel highlighted by Yuval Castleman killing

Yuval Castleman was shot and killed by an IDF after neutralizing attackers at the scene of a terror attack – even though he identified himself and dropped his weapon.

I have seen a report about this and I thought he was shot by an Israeli settler and the IDF let him bleed out.

Originally there was not going to be an investigation, I hope there will be now. Poor man did everything right and was still shot and left to die by fellow Israelis.

I think it's the first 15 minutes or so of this video.

I think there is going to be an investigation. Something about bullets in his body.

That is so sad, poor man

ScrollingLeaves · 12/12/2023 13:15

I also thought this was another dreadful example of Israel’s out of control, careless do-what-you-want approach
(Excerpt from the article a few posts ago):

Cattleman’s family is also castigating officials for their response. His father and sister Shaked have called his death an “execution,” while his sister Noga said the family did not hear from the police until several hours after the incident and did not get the chance to comfort Castleman in his final hours of life.
“We carried on with our lives as he was fighting for his life,” Noga said, according to Kan. “We weren’t there to caress him, to call to him. I wouldn’t wish upon anyone that they hear what happened to a loved one in such an unclear way.”

Also, as the female news reader said, if a Palestian had put his arms up, surrendered, and still been shot in this way, no one would have said anything about it.

A visual of what actually happens when IDF are bombing. For those who think it's not that bad...

UK Israel Tech HUB and Cellebrite both exist. The Tech HUB is chaired by the man he names but I can't find any information about phone hacking in connection with either company.

That’s interesting, I have so far only heard of Hamas’s psychological war fare and lust for barbaric viciousness.

I can only read the first paragraph of Haaretz articles even after giving my email. Are other people here fully signed up?

It was "official" policy, named the Hannibal Directive:
What is the Hannibal Directive? The directive, also known as the Hannibal Procedure or Hannibal Protocol, is an Israeli military policy that stipulates the use of maximum force in the event of a soldier being kidnapped, said Shaul.
“You will open fire without constraints, in order to prevent the abduction,” he said, adding that the use of force is carried out even at the risk of killing a captive soldier.

What’s Israel’s Hannibal Directive? A former Israeli soldier tells all

The controversial policy to avoid capture of Israeli soldiers isn’t formally in place now. But echoes persist in Gaza.

ssd · 12/12/2023 21:12

So essentially, the civilian population is "worth less" than someone in the military, is that correct?

ScrollingLeaves · 12/12/2023 21:31

Sometimes people feel sceptical about Al Jazeera.

An excerpt from Haaretz (Israeli paper) 20 Oct
translated on Google translate from Hebrew (my bolding):
Escapa is the caretaker of the garden ("Noynik") and a member of Barry's standby squad. Luckily for him, on the day of the October 7th massacre, he was outside the kibbutz, on the occasion of his bachelor party. He and other friends set up a HML to coordinate between the residents and the army forces. The recordings received from the besieged residents reminded him of those released from the Yom Kippur War: "Panic, shouting 'Where is the army?' And in the background you hear the clutches and the RPG."His voice broke when he remembered his partner, who was besieged in MMD at the time. According to him, only on Monday night and only after the commanders in the field made difficult decisions - including shelling houses on their occupants in order to eliminate the terrorists along with the hostages - did the IDF complete the takeover of the kibbutz The price was terrible: at least 112 Bari people were killed.
