Well, this is a discussion board. If you wany an echochamber this is probably not the place. Good night!

Humdingerydoo · 30/11/2023 23:36

An echo chamber in this context would usually be when something is up for discussion but only one side is being heard. I didn't realise "Hamas are evil" had an opposing side.

Exactly

Well, that's one perspective.

But the reality is the horrendous acts of Hamas are being used to justify a reaction. And ignoring the victims of that reaction mean placing a different value on the life on one human over another

Oh so sorry if people are daring to react to a pogrom and the kidnapping of innocent adults and children, plus their mistreated in a way you don't approve

I mean most adults can think about and discuss more than one thing at once. Pretty sure the users here are all on more than one thread etc

The distraction or react as you call it is a very real thing to most people here. Maybe show some empathy like most posters instead of trying to make out Jewish and Israeli trauma is all a conspiracy to stop people worrying about Gazens.

Trulywonderful · 01/12/2023 00:08

parksandrecs · 30/11/2023 23:11

I think the life of one person is not inherently worth more than the life of another, based on nationality, religion, or any other measure.

Of course my family and friends matter more to me than random and unrelated people.

'innocent little lambs' - well, as I have pointed out, Israel puts many Palestinians in prison with administrative detention, with no trial. Some may be hard core terrorists, others threw stones at Israeli soldiers in illegally occupied Palestinian land, others were simply caught up when going about their daily business

I2001 a five-month-old baby named Yehuda Shoham was killed when a rock thrown by Palestinian assailants smashed through the windscreen of the car his father was driving, crushing his skull.

Rocks thrown by two Palestinian men in 2011 hit Asher Palmer in the head, causing his car to veer off the road and overturn, killing both him and his infant son Yonathan. These rocks…were lethal weapons.

Just two examples of the many people killed by (Oh it was just) rock throwing

I could break down the rest of your post but can't be bothered

Why do interesting threads always get derailed by posters who rant on and in, totally off topic

Why?

Its so tiresome

XRAYTHIS · 01/12/2023 06:47

That was fired an hour before the 7 day truce was due to end.

SomeCatFromJapan · 01/12/2023 07:05

Thank you very much for starting this thread. I'll post any relevant links, with descriptions, that I come across.

I suggest everyone ignore the derailers. No-one is that socially inept, it's a deliberate tactic. I wouldn't be surprised if we get them in shifts.

Depdawg · 01/12/2023 07:13

I said last night, the detractors start by
trying to appear neutral, then they up
the ante.
Thanks for that update @XRAYTHIS
It reminds us why this thread is here. Israel aren't dealing with those who
want peace.

A funeral of top hamas official on Oct 11th according to American News outlet, 4 days after the terrorist attack of 7th October. Shows the support for hames or at least this particular hamas official. Encouraging the very young children to weep for him.

Palestinians in Gaza Hold Funeral for Hamas Political Official | VOA News

Palestinians in the Gaza strip held mass funerals for two members of Hamas' political office, Jawad Abu Shammala and Zakaria Abu Maamar, killed in an airstri...

Watching that video makes me so
glad I am not naive. No wonder the IDF need to
be fully switched on to tackle these
'civilians'.

Best thing to do is report all off topic posts.

I found the references to how the UNWRA counts refugees especially interesting. When what was described as a "Refugee Camp" was bombed by the IDF I, like many others, had visions of the tent cities you see in Bangladesh or Uganda or Syria which are intended as temporary accommodation for people displaced by war. I didn't expect it to be a group of tower blocks. That Hamas basically won't let people move out of into "settled" housing because it can then claim financial aid for them being.

Hamas dig their tunnels under schools and hospitals.

For a number of reasons, I wouldn't take this excerpt from a post on X at face value.

  1. It has been captioned in a way that the person wants it to be taken seriously. I
  2. Where did this video originate?
  3. Where is the evidence that the aid was taken?
  4. It might have been planted there similarly to the hospital in Al Shifa.
  5. How else would they be able to provide food and supplies to the hostages, even if it does belong to Hamas?

I'm not on X so can't read the thread, so obviously don't know what it says. But yes, a lot of the refugee camps are more like council housing, I guess. There was a big issue when Sweden decided to recognise Palestine as a state a few years ago. By recognising the state, funding for refugees all of a sudden became a problem as obviously if they are living in their own state, they're no longer refugees...

@Humdingerydoo I think you should still be able to open and read twitter links even if you're not registered. I deregged for a while and still could anyway.

I used to be able to but since it became X I haven't been able to! Or rather, I can only see the original post, no comments or other posts. Sometimes I can see other posts but they're not in any kind of logical order.

yes this. It really is better to ignore obvious derailers otherwise we don't get to discuss the thread topic! Eventually if they keep going you can report as in my experience, targeted and obvious attempts to derail will be dealt with. Thread topics and boards are there for a reason.

whatswrongwiththeworldddd · 01/12/2023 09:53

Some posters on this forum act very hypocritically by criticising other posters for attempting to derail a topic when they themselves have engaged in similar behaviour on other posts. Posters are accused of "derailing a thread" if all they're doing is trying to jump into your argument and present an opposing viewpoint.

We see you.

SomeCatFromJapan · 01/12/2023 09:53

I've found quite a useful account to follow during the active conflict stages is Gaza Report, for those who are on X.
It claims to be a neutral reporting account inside Gaza, although there is no way to verify that. It has been a useful source of on the ground footage and information though, including of Hamas attacks on fleeing civilians (trying to keep them in the more dangerous areas as human shields) as well as Hamas quelling any dissent, hoarding aid etc. Most of these reports don't seem to filter through to the MSM.

Here's a recent post for example which gives interesting insight:
