This was Bidens tweet today
It seems like he's trying to do that thing where he keeps everyone happy? Or I don't know just confusing in general on what his stance is
Itl be interesting to see what political analysts have to say about it

Do you know what the rough figure is of how many Hamas militants have been killed in the war?
So I know there are general updates given here or there but is there a total? Does Israel know how many have been killed and also how many there are all together?
So I was just thinking after a month of intense bombardment and the destruction of much of civilian infrastructure in the North how much has been gained in terms of removing Hamas?

How effective has this strategy been?
And at what cost? Not only for Gaza but also for Israel

IDF made an announcement about 3 days ago [Guardian] can't remember it word for word but it basically said we're doing well wiping out Hamas and - wait for this now

'number of Hamas fighters killed is a figure between 1000 and 10000'

Obviously pretty meaningless and casting lots of shade on the civilian casualty figures

OP posts:
Parkingt111 · 29/11/2023 10:25

@Efacsen well a figure like that indicates to me that they don't know themselves
I saw an interview with one of the spokesman and they just would not answer the question on if they knew how many Hamas militants had been killed. They wouldn't even say an estimated figure but kept evading it and deflecting with other points even after much persistence.
Typical of most Politicians though when asked a question they don't know the answer to but won't admit it

Toothyfruity · 29/11/2023 10:29

If they dont even know how many Hamas fighters they've killed then there's no justification to keep going. Not when they've killed 6000 kids.

The 10k figure is ridiculous. It's actually crazy that they're not being pressurised to give clear figures on this very important topic.

Efacsen · 29/11/2023 10:38

@Parkingt111 exactly almost no point asking

zero.
have you seen the video of the hostages handover ? They are done in the exact spot the Israeli Army clashed with Hamas prior to the ceasefire. They casually drove in , dropped the hostages and drove off.
the IDF has absolutely no idea where Al Qassam Brigade is or what they look like or their names ,
Not even Gilad Shalit who was hostage for from 2006 to 2011 was able to identify any of them , or give any names or location .
and he was in the IDF, not a civilian so he must have received excellent training in trying to gather information.

Parkingt111 · 29/11/2023 17:30

@queenofarles yes I was actually quite suprised by that myself

Parkingt111 · 29/11/2023 17:34

Two young boys were sadly killed by the IDF in the occupied west bank today
The PRCS said their ambulances were prevented from reaching them
They put out a tweet with footage

Parkingt111 · 29/11/2023 17:42

It must be extremely frustrating for doctors and medical staff to know that there are children and injured civilians whose life is hanging on a balance and they are being prevented from reaching them to help them

Parkingt111 · 29/11/2023 17:47

On a slightly more positive note Jordan is going to hold a conference tomorrow on how to get more much needed humanitarian aid into Gaza
Even what has been coming in during the truce is nothing compared to what they need

Efacsen · 30/11/2023 07:16

Parkingt111 · 29/11/2023 09:46

@Efacsen I really don't understand it either
So Biden is saying that they can't keep moving the civilians how they did in the North
Well what will happen then?
Raids?
According to one spokesperson from the military they said they expect the war to last atleast another two months
The international pressure on Israel right now is immense
I can't see how Biden will manage to continue supporting under the pressure of another two months

Yesterday Israel continued to insist that this is what they intend to do

US spokesman [I think] was asking but how will you keep the civilians safe?

Not just you and I who are mystified

Daily Fail has reported on babies being left to die. I wonder will this be verified and reported. If it's true it's the worst thing I've ever heard.

I'm not too hopeful sadly although I wish it does happen
The WHO put out a statement yesterday about Gaza's healthcare infrastructure
They said even if the fighting resumes they don't want anymore hospitals attacked because of how few remain functioning
But they have said alot of things during this War and not much has happened so I still just see it as empty words

Parkingt111 · 30/11/2023 10:21

@Toothyfruity I don't trust the daily mail but if its true then its a horrendous situation and there needs to be an investigation in how it came about
Those poor babies

stormy4319trevor · 30/11/2023 10:32

I'm wondering what the weather is like. If the temperature drops the people don't have adequate shelter or means to keep warm. Rain makes it worse, as hard to dry anything.

Efacsen · 30/11/2023 10:42

@stormy4319trevor the Met do a weather forecast for Gaza {OPT} - nice and sunny and dry this week 21-24 degrees* but the nights are getting colder sometimes down to 12 degrees which as you say with no warm clothing, damp from previous rain and sleeping on the ground in a tent is not only very unpleasant but actually a risk to health

*temp was nearer 30 degrees at the beginning of October

stormy4319trevor · 30/11/2023 10:47

I'm glad day time weather is not cold. Thanks for looking that up @Efacsen I think there's going to be a need to put up portacabins or something, but god knows how if they have to keep moving. G reported they are only allowed to move south now and are not allowed in the sea.

Efacsen · 30/11/2023 10:58

Think I'm correct in saying some of the humanitarian aid is for heating and also warm clothes but UN was saying today that they have to prioritise delivery of medicines/ food/water so it's maybe not reaching people

Part of the desperation to go back to their homes in northern gaza is to get warm clothing/blankets etc - the not being allowed in the sea [what are these poor people allowed to do] was to do with people trying to get round the IDF checkpoints on the road by going along the beach/in the sea in Khan Younis

Remember a few years ago seeing people in a Syrian refugee camp in the snow - it's such a miserable existence being a refugee

No of course. I never read that dirty rag but when I searched for the story that was all that showed up for me.

OuiOuiKitty · 30/11/2023 13:56

A good news story, lovely to see so many people volunteering at such a difficult time. Hopefully they will be able to make it some way functional again.

it’s on TRT , I couldn’t watch the video , it’s beyond gory ,it says the babies are still attached to monitors and cannulas .

Parkingt111 · 30/11/2023 18:41

The ICRC just put up this

We have seen the footage circulating of deceased newborn babies and claims suggesting that ICRC left or abandoned these babies at the Al Nasr Hospital in northern Gaza.

This is false.

@Toothyfruity this was just posted today by the ICRC

Parkingt111 · 30/11/2023 18:51

@Efacsen doctors without borders put this up today
At approx time 3.40 of the clip the doctor from a nasr hospital talks about how they were made to evacuate
They took all patients except 5 babies who were on oxygen and asked the IDF to move them to Al shifa hospital
Something has clearly gone wrong and the babies were not moved as a few days later when the truce started and people want inside An nasr hospital they saw the 5 babies who had died and whose bodies were decomposing
