I've got a cold that has turned into a nasty chest infection and I think it's affecting my brain.

Sorry to hear that - hope you feel better soon Flowers

@Efacsen yes I did. I think it sort of confirmed what I suspected for awhile
The US have not been happy about the tactics used and civilian casualties amongst other issues. I did notice the gradual change of tone from very subtle criticism to quite open and direct.
But really they have a part to blame too and still do. They gave the green light to Netanyahu to carry out the war how he wishes and now are worried about the backlash
That's on them for not being a critical ally in the time when it was needed and they will have to take some accountability for it

Parkingt111 · 01/12/2023 19:06

PRCS Is saying that all aid into Gaza has been refused by Israel until further notice
It's day one after the truce and intense bombardment

If aid isn't allowed in its going to be catastrophic
Israel hasn't responded to the claims yet

Thank you. I feel like crying when I think how someone with this cold would be feeling in Gaza. I've got a safe home, heat, light, food. They have nothing.

I don't see how this is to be justified.

Parkingt111 · 01/12/2023 20:51

@stormy4319trevor I have just seen that the US is supposedly justifying the blockage of aid.
It said until Hamas comes up with further hostages to be released
What does that mean for ordinary civilians then whose control none of this is in?
Absolutely awful situation

stormy4319trevor · 01/12/2023 21:04

@Parkingt111 This is terrible. Children were dying already and now they remove the tiny bit of help that was given.

Toothyfruity · 01/12/2023 21:18

Absolutely disgusting behaviour. Biden's new moniker Genocide Joe suits him. There's some very bad men in power.

I saw a few videos of scenes in Gaza today. Very bad situation. Very upsetting stuff.

Parkingt111 · 01/12/2023 21:53

Yup I really don't see how restricting or totally banning aid is an effective strategy in getting Hamas to return hostages
All that I see happening is civilians being affected in a war zone that on the first day has already led to many many deaths. Which in turn will lead to a widespread condemnation of Israel and the US
I just can't see Hamas saying well now you are restricting aid we better start releasing hostages again
There has to be a better alternative than this

I mean it doesn't make sense if the goal is to get hostages back but it makes perfect sense if the goal is to push the population down into a tiny corner by Egypt and ethnically cleanse Gaza.

Efacsen · 02/12/2023 00:02

@Parkingt111 in that [very long] article I mentioned earlier about Israel using AI in this war -it said that punishing the local population was an integral part of the plan to turn Gazans against Hamas. Not sure how that works in terms of improving Hamas admin wrt the number/whereabouts of hostages - or maybe it does on a very local level??

@stormy4319trevor it's only a small consolation but UN said earlier that they were able to deliver blankets for warmth during the ceasefire. Noticed one of the children injured in the bombing today was wearing a thick winter coat with fleece lining - maybe the lack of food is making everyone more vulnerable to the autumnal temp drop?

Some better news about the Rafah crossing re-opening today and confirmed by Egyptian officials - looks like it's back to 6% of aid needed down from the 40% during the ceasefire - tho' only half of the fuel was delivered in breach of the ceasefire agreement [PRCS]

White House national security spokesperson John Kirby, citing reports from Israel, said Israel had agreed to resume letting truck deliveries through at the urging of the US. But he said truck deliveries would likely be reduced to dozens a day rather than the hundreds of trucks that were getting into Gaza daily during the week-long pause in fighting that ended on Friday morning.

@Efacsen its better than zero but i would say not even a drop that is needed sadly
It seems like it's a gesture done just so people can't say you are not allowing aid in by letting in the absolute bare minimum

And the strikes on the first day after the war has been so intense
There's definitely many civilian casualties and with not many hospitals operating it's a concern what will happen
It's already looking very bleak

Efacsen · 02/12/2023 07:00

@Parkingt111

Agree it looks like the bare minimum that will just keep people alive - no doubt generated by the algorithm

Final death toll was nearly 200 yesterday so down on before the ceasefire but still far too many - humanitarian agencies not impressed by the 'evacuation by numbers plan' nowhere for people to evacuate to in the designated areas, not given enough time to leave, cruel to already displaced etc

Must make it more difficult to deliver aid to the most vulnerable if people are constantly on the move

I keep thinking about your theoretical 50 person family who probably have several frail elderly members, pregnant mums, many children and how they will cope with this merry-go-round of misery

OP posts:
Parkingt111 · 02/12/2023 07:20

@Efacsen I was reading one analysis of this new system of moving people into different blocks constantly and it also said its just not feasible in action or as a measure to prevent civilian casualties
Especially as what we saw today there was multiple strikes all over the strip it wasn't even just contained to one area
If it continues like this the death toll is sadly going to be much much higher than what it is now.
It also depends at what point Biden puts his foot down
In the first act of seemingly trying to distance themselves from the Israeli government the US have said from as early as next week they are going to start introducing visa bans for the settlers who attack palestininians
I'm not sure how much of a deterrent this will be or if its just a political stance.

Efacsen · 02/12/2023 07:32

@Parkingt111 didn't see any response from Israeli gov to the visa withdrawal threat or how many people it would effect [?handful maybe] Perhaps it will matter more who is impacted

OP posts:
Parkingt111 · 02/12/2023 10:50

@Efacsen yes I haven't seen a response
Iv just seen on sky of a parade of Yemeni Houthis
What are the chances of a wider de-escalation in the region? That would be terrible

Well, it is a start to admit that illegal Israeli settlers are attacking the legitimate civilian population in the West Bank... I mean, it shouldn't have taken so long and so many thousands of dead for the USA to recognise that, but it's a step in the right direction.

I wish Israel (and Palestine) peace and security. I don't think you get peace and security by killing people, you simply create more violence.

Efacsen · 02/12/2023 13:58

PRCS 50 trucks of aid going into Gaza
Earlier the consignment incl 2 tankers of fuel

Parkingt111 · 02/12/2023 14:06

Thanks for that update. Another quite vocal stance by the US.
Iv seen reports of a buffer zone being made but I can't see how that can happen without making Gaza smaller than it already is
It would also contradict 'redrawing of the borders of Gaza'

US Vice President Kamala Harris said that “under no circumstances will the United States permit the forced relocation of Palestinians from Gaza or the West Bank, the besiegement of Gaza, or the redrawing of the borders of Gaza.”

Parkingt111 · 02/12/2023 14:08

@parksandrecs I agree. Its a shame it took so long but I suppose its a start. The Global attention this war has recieved means these issues are finally being discussed to some extent.

Parkingt111 · 02/12/2023 14:09

The US have also repeatedly said they are against the increase of illegal settlements that have been steadily on the rise over the years especially under Netanyahu but those words have had little effect

Parkingt111 · 02/12/2023 19:17

Do you all remember when the MSF (doctors without borders) convoy came under attack by Israeli snipers killing two members. They said their ambulance and vehicles were clearly marked and are saying they want an explanation why they were attacked (against international law) and they also want an independent investigation done into it

I have linked the full article for anybody who wants to read it

On 18 November 2023, a Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) evacuation convoy came under fire in Gaza City, Palestine. Two people were killed in what immediately appeared as a deliberate attack against clearly identified MSF cars. Both people killed were family members of MSF staff; one was also a volunteer supporting MSF medical teams at Al-Shifa hospital. Two weeks later, after collecting the testimonies of MSF staff present that day in the convoy, MSF considers that all elements point to the responsibility of the Israeli army for this attack.

Gaza: MSF condemns deliberate attack on a convoy transporting staff, resulting in one death and one injury | MSF

A convoy of clearly marked MSF cars, transporting MSF staff and their family members in an attempt to evacuate them from northern Gaza, has been deliberately attacked, killing one person.
