Airstrikes yesterday near the Kuwaiti Hospital in Rafah - nowhere is safe and no healthcare is being protected

Not a great deal being reported about the state of any of the hospitals except the below. Have seen a few pics of patients being treated out of tents using torches in ?northern gaza but no further explanation

World Health Organization representatives visited Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis on Sunday to assess the needs of the overwhelmed health facility, WHO chief Tedros Ghebreyesus said.

In a tweet on Sunday, Tedros added that the Nasser Medical Complex is one of only two key functioning hospitals in southern Gaza that is able to provide medical care for wounded and other patients.

@Efacsen thank you for that and yes same neither have I
Over the new years and festive period I have seen a decrease in reporting on MSM so maybe from tomorrow onwards we might hear more

A 5 day old baby killed whilst sheltering at Amal hospital today. No safe spaces In Gaza. As she rightly says, "the world should be ashamed"

A United Nations humanitarian official has visited the Al-Amal hospital in Gaza, site of an Israeli missile attack earlier in which five people were reported dead, including a five-day-old baby.
“The world should be absolutely horrified. The world should be absolutely outraged a child was killed here today, four more people were killed here today, in a space that should be safe,” Gemma Connell,

Parkingt111 · 02/01/2024 23:04

I just can't fathom that. Only 5 days alive in this world, to be killed by a bomb in a space that should be protected
What a cruel way to die

stormy4319trevor · 02/01/2024 23:06

It's so terrible @Parkingt111 Too many children suffering, I can't understand how it can go on either.

Toothyfruity · 02/01/2024 23:07

Terrible. Beyond sad. Any time I share my thoughts on people who still argue against a ceasefire I get deleted so I won't.

Parkingt111 · 02/01/2024 23:11

@stormy4319trevor 4 other people were killed and I don't know if it includes the mother. If she is alive then I can't imagine how she will overcome this.
Only alive for 5 days the poor little soul

Parkingt111 · 02/01/2024 23:14

This is the tweet with a video of the place of the attack where the UN member is speaking
You can actually see baby nappies in the background

The emblem was on the roof. I don't know if any reason was given for striking this hospital. I can't understand how the US is still backing and funding this approach.

Parkingt111 · 02/01/2024 23:21

@stormy4319trevor who knows at this point?
I certainly don't

stormy4319trevor · 02/01/2024 23:28

Me neither @Parkingt111 I feel like I'm in some nightmare dimension where even children can be treated without mercy. I am afraid at the direction humanity is taking. It isn't that it's new, there has always been cruelty and suffering. It's that we can all see it, live and in our faces - and can do nothing about it.

stormy4319trevor · 02/01/2024 23:38

Bernie Sanders is calling on Congress to block further funding - so somebody in American politics does care, at least.

Blinken has been using "emergency powers" to bypass Congress and send arms to Israel. Is there a mechanism whereby Congress can block or revoke those powers?

Funding was blocked by republicans few weeks ago as well (the reason behind it was that money was better spent blocking the border with Mexico)

stormy4319trevor · 02/01/2024 23:54

I don't know @FOJN but I think there must be some sort of safeguard against a President doing his own thing without consultations. @EasterIssland Maybe that's one reason Biden is using his emergency powers, so nobody can block him.

Efacsen · 03/01/2024 08:13

@FOJN IDK aren't these 'emergency powers' integral to the role of the POTUS - can't imagine that there's a way to get rid of this sort of presidential privilege or that there are moves afoot to do so? But maybe I'm wrong

WHO has blood on it's hands wrt destruction of Al Shifa according to Eylon Levy after [un-evidenced] US Intelligence report that Hamas had ''used the Al-Shifa hospital complex and sites beneath it to exercise command and control activities, store weapons and hold ‘at least a few hostages.’”

''And the @WHO still says nothing.

Silence tells terrorists: keep going. Use hospitals as military bases. We’ll turn a blind eye and claim your bases immune to military attack under international law. And when you tell terrorist to keep going, you have blood on your hands.''

Sorry this is almost definitely the wrong thread for this but it's good for up to date information so worth a try.

Why are Israeli bulldozers digging up dead bodies in Gaza? I can't believe I just typed that but I've seen footage and need to know what on earth is going on.

Efacsen · 06/01/2024 17:51

IDK @Toothyfruity when I first saw pics like that I couldn't believe it was intentional but now understand that it's to deliberately 'terrorise' the living-it's both macabre and cruel and completely counter to 'civilised' behaviour?

And there was that awful business of the IDF taking 80 bodies off to Israel looking for hostages tho' all the bodies were male unlike the hostages

And Hamas kidnapping bodies on 7/10 also weird and awful

All very disturbing

Efacsen · 06/01/2024 17:56

All sounds pretty dreadful at Al-Asqa

''Dr Ebraheem Matar, who is at Al-Aqsa Hospital in central Gaza, says that Israeli forces are closing in after weeks of intense shelling. He says many doctors and nurses have left, fearful the Israelis “will do there what they did at Shifa and the Indonesian hospital”. Matar said that “the hospital is filled with injured and sick.”

The displaced people living in tents around the hospital are also packing up and leaving

@Efacsen What will happen to those too ill to move, I wonder.

This is a small thing but a tiny ray of hope for the people in Gaza. France and Jordan airdrop 7 tonnes of aid into Gaza for the field hospital.
