@Parkingt111 Sounds likely. I think environmental fungi are probably everywhere, but probably hard to keep wounds clean and sterile there. It seems like only a few affected so far, but definitely something to keep an eye on as it's treatment resistant and could be devastating for all the injured there.

Efacsen · 26/12/2023 14:04

@Parkingt111 and @stormy4319trevor there's another poster on another thread* been posting about this for a while - unless there were a lot of multi-antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria in gaza pre this war [there might have been] it doesn't make a lot of sense as there is a severe shortage of antibiotics. Same for resistant fungi

*it used to be in my watched threads but no longer there

Parkingt111 · 26/12/2023 14:17

I just found it
It's called diseases could kill more people than bombs

@kindatired wrote this very good explanation. I have tagged to double check its OK to repost on here

I see on Sky news the drug resistant wound infections have stared to appear. What seems to have happened is that there has been inadequate sanitation and the ground is contaminated with human poo . There was already an antibiotic resistance problem in Gaza. During the bombardment, many people have had open wounds and these got infected. They needed antibiotics and likely most have not finished the course as the supplies of drugs and consumables have run out, not to mention evacuation, lack of hand washing facilities overcrowding and re-admissions due a second injury. I’ve seen pictures of several people sharing a bed or trolley and injured children lying on floor the floor or their relatives camping on the floor.
Floors would be covered with the now antibiotic resistant poo bacteria…
So now the IDF are coming back home with infected war wounds that were contaminated with poo from the people whose toilets and hospitals they just blew up. Some of them can’t be treated with the normal antibiotics and require surgery instead of just injectable treatments. It’s very worrying for anyone with an injury regardless of which side of the conflict they are on and likely those trapped in Gaza are affected to a much greater extent than those diagnosed in fully functioning Israeli hospitals.

stormy4319trevor · 26/12/2023 14:26

Thanks @Parkingt111 There's been rain as well, which will have spread stuff around more I suppose, with the ground being wet. Israeli hospitals seem to have identified it as fungus colonising wounds, which might be even more difficult to treat than bacterial infection. Spores could be in buildings, on surfaces as well as in mud and soil? I know nothing about pathogens, but it certainly sounds concerning.

Parkingt111 · 26/12/2023 14:30

I did see awhile ago that in some areas at one point due to a lack of fuel to run the relevant infrastructure, there was sewage flowing through civilian living areas which could have contributed towards this.

If the Israeli hospitals that are sterilised and have all the facilities, are having a difficult time treating this infection, then the Palestinians with lack of medical aid and hospitals that cannot be sanitised due to lack of space and sheer amount of injuries, stand very little chance in combating it.

stormy4319trevor · 26/12/2023 14:32

@Parkingt111 Yes, that's very true.

Update from PRCS

Mainly about Al Shifa [bombed front of hospital 3]
Motorina · 26/12/2023 21:54

War is known to be a significant driver of antibiotic resistance (which ultimately will impact on countries unconnected with the conflict, including our own).

Efacsen · 27/12/2023 12:42

Hospitals currently at risk from Israeli airstrikes El Amal, Nasser and Jordanian field hospital - airstrikes also generating many new casualties

OP posts:
Parkingt111 · 27/12/2023 13:05

I saw last night that Nasser medical complex was asking for protection as the strikes were very close by and they feared a repeat of Al Shifa hospital

If the Jordanian field hospital is targeted there may be some serious consequences

Efacsen · 28/12/2023 11:15

Nasser hospital still under siege with many thousands of displaced people, patients and staff

Problems at Al Amal seem to be more related to IDF attack on a nearby building not the hospital itself but effecting access and spilling over into the hospital

@Parkingt111 Was also shocked to hear Jordanian field hospital under threat tho nowhere in Khan Younis is safe from bombardment/shelling atm

OP posts:
Efacsen · 28/12/2023 11:23

Seems like UN/WHO are visiting Al Shifa and Al Ahili every 2-3 days bringing what resources they can and evacuating a small number of patients who are in need of surgery as no operating at either due to lack of staff

Being a non-functioning hospital doesn't stop the injured arriving

Parkingt111 · 28/12/2023 12:04

@Efacsen thanks for the update
I have been following doctor Ghassan on socials where he posts updates from his colleagues who are still in Gaza and its still as dreadful as ever
Especially since the last few days when bombardment in central Gaza and dense populated areas has seen a sharp brutal increase

Thereissomelight · 28/12/2023 12:06

Humble salutations to all those medics and nurses.

Parkingt111 · 28/12/2023 15:58

Amen to that. There has been more airstrikes near the Al Amal hospital
Many more killed and injured

This video shows some of the injured but I'm posting it to highlight the conditions the PRCS are working in
They are in the midst of hell, risking their lives to help the innocent

Parkingt111 · 28/12/2023 16:00

The medics, nurses and all those in healthcare right now are the unsung heroes in this war. I have no idea how they continue after what they witness each day.
It's hard for us to even look at, yet for them it's a reality

Thereissomelight · 28/12/2023 16:02

Guess who’ll win all the medals, votes and places in the history (of psychopathy) books though.

Parkingt111 · 29/12/2023 09:27

Israeli shelling over two days near Al-Amal hospital in southern Gaza’s main city Khan Younis has killed 41 people, the Palestinian Red Crescent said on Thursday.
The casualties include “displaced persons seeking shelter” at Red Crescent premises, AFP reports that it said.
The Palestine Red Crescent Society has also issued a video interview with Mohammed Salah, who it says is a paramedic at their ambulance centre in the Jabaliya refugee camp. In the video he describes ambulance staff being made to undress and being beaten and interrogated by Israeli forces operating inside Gaza.

Parkingt111 · 29/12/2023 09:29

More civilians near Al Amal hospital killed and more reports of ordinary people being stripped and tortured
Including ambulance staff
More dehumanising actions of the Palestinians from the IDF

Parkingt111 · 29/12/2023 09:32

They were hit in their head back and even private areas, one paramedic was hit so badly on his legs he will likely need a operation. You can hear the ambulance worker speaking here

Efacsen · 29/12/2023 09:43

@Parkingt111 it's absolutely appalling the way the paramedics were treated by the IDF - and these are the 'innocent' ones - not Hamas or Hamas sympathisers - just ordainary Palestinians doing an already difficult job

God only knows what is being done to the 8 others who haven't been released

Moral army - don't think so the more they tell us about themselves the lower they fall in my estimation

OP posts:
Parkingt111 · 29/12/2023 09:58

@Efacsen yes this is what is so worrying
That if professionals are treated In such a horrific way then how much those civilians be treated who nobody will account for

I am seeing testimonies of young children who have said the IDF raided their homes and shot their parents

Parkingt111 · 29/12/2023 20:47

Some latest stats which are very worrying regarding the spread of illnesses and diseases from the WHO

  • Nearly 180,000 people suffering upper respiratory infections;
  • 136,400 cases of diarrhoea - half of these among children aged under five years old;
  • 55,400 cases of lice and scabies;
  • 5,330 cases of chickenpox;
  • 42,700 cases of skin rash, including 4,722 cases of impetigo;
  • 4,683 cases of Acute Jaundice Syndrome;
  • 126 cases of meningitis,
Toothyfruity · 29/12/2023 21:01

My goodness. That's desperately hard but not surprising. I can't imagine how they're coping in such dire conditions. And all of this is man made and needn't have happened. Horrible.

Efacsen · 30/12/2023 08:24

As if it's not awful enough living in overcrowded inadequate conditions, in fear of bombardment, hungry and thirsty but to be ill as well with little or no health provision

These poor people

And agree with @Toothyfruity never let it be forgotten that this is all a deliberate manmade disaster

It's fully intended by the government of Israel planning to push most of the people of Gaza into Egypt
