@Trulywonderful
More history lessons. Most of us weren’t alive in 1931. We can only control what happens today.

By chanting for a Christmas tree to be chopped down in new york and setting policehats alight?

Yes that is really going to show Israel

(G-d give me strength. It is like talking to the less logical thinking teenagers at school on here sometimes. Only at work they are normally more open to learning about how life works)

Whilst the tweeter may not be popular with some of you, Fox has captured the
Ignorance of antisemitism perfectly, here.

An example of being too dumb to know what you're subscribing to.

That is very funny

He shouldn't have called her an idiot though even if true. Well not within her earshot anyway

Seriously it is amazing just how clueless some people are. According to one poster on this thread Israel were having a nice time until the pogrom. I mean sure if up to seven terrorist attacks a day is what you call nice. Same poster on a different thread failed to see that rock throwing is a serious offence. I mean at least two babies have been killed by fuckwit terrorists throwing rocks plus some adults and then lots of people seriously injured. If this happened in the UK people would be shouting for the book to be thrown at people that did it.

What on earth is a "kinda Jewish themed event"? We're the attendees dressed up in Nazi uniform fancy dress?

Prince Harry was probably attending too then

two, if the question is asked ‘what does Israel do - and therefore Jews do - to protect itself and themselves against people sworn to kill their state and all of them, in the face of recent murder, rape, desecration and kidnapping by Hamas?’, the answer is always (some variation of) the chant “but it’s disproportionate!”. That’s despite every effort that Israel takes to warn of action; despite Hamas shielding itself behind civilians; despite Hamas’s tactics of hiding in and beneath hospitals and other facilities; despite Hamas placing rocket sites by desalination plants; despite Hamas blocking evacuation and forcing civilians back to areas warned about; despite any recognition that Hamas is a cipher for Iran’s genocidal ambitions. And on and on.

I think, @WhileMyDishwasherGentlyWeeps that there are some legitimate concerns that have become more apparent as this operation in Gaza has gone on. The civilian death toll is extraordinarily high, for various reasons including Hamas using human shields, the population density and the inability to evacuate to neighbouring countries. The threat of Hamas to Israel is of course severe, but that cannot mean a blank cheque in terms of actions taken to eliminate it. I think it is hard to be convinced that Israel is doing everything it can to limit losses when the rhetoric of the Israeli government suggests otherwise, along with their actions in the West Bank.

However, it is correct to say that there are people who were criticising Israel's response before they even took any retaliatory action, and some who were, despicably, celebrating Hamas. There's also been a shocking lack of interest in bringing Hamas to justice for its terror attack and for the ongoing hostage situation, and as time has gone on, a creeping minimisation of the actions of Hamas from some has turned into something like a sneaking regard. There is, undoubtedly, an antisemitic undertone (or even overtone) to a lot of this.

The whole situation is awful, heartbreaking, there are terrible faults on both sides, and while it is undeniably true that Hamas need to be dealt with, it's unclear if Israel's current course can continue to be tolerated. The US are already signalling a change of tactics is needed.

Sure. However much I respect any country’s right to exist - especially Israel’s, given the unspeakable wickedness that led to its creation - no state has a free hand to destroy and kill in its name.

But I don’t believe that’s what Israel is doing.

None of us, apart from antisemites, takes any joy in death, or fighting in or by Israel. But it is doing only what it must to rid itself of the murderous death cult on its border.

That cannot be done without the action Israel is now taking.

Hamas bears the blame for using the blameless as shields.

They employ Owen Jones as a columnist.
That says everything about the Guardian.

Definitely, enough said just by knowing that

Trulywonderful · 01/12/2023 22:51

Not antisemitism but needs public awareness. Nobody is safe if people like these sticker idiots get their way

No main protest today. This will provide some respite.

It was be asking the wider mumsnet community rather than me not knowing the answer

You forget I bandstand a little on here

Oh I wasn't telling you, I know we've already had this discussion!

As for bandstanding, look who you're talking to.... Wink

noblegiraffe · 02/12/2023 11:25

Why is there no main protest this weekend?

Depdawg · 02/12/2023 12:40

Well we know how they like the attention.

I really can't fathom where you are coming from with that crass comment. The organisers of the event and the speaker would for sure have treated it with contempt

I can imagine the comment is based on your previous posts on various antisemitism threads. The denial of a problem regarding protests and general posting on any antisemitism threads in a rather inappropriate way.

However maybe the poster hasa different reason but that is my guess

Also you said Jewish theme which makes most of us roll our eyes to say the least. I mean personally I don't consider myself as a theme

What would you say to a poster who said they attended a Muslim themed event?

Trulywonderful · 02/12/2023 12:53

Fuckwit will probably be backed up by apologists

The level of excuses some of the hateful sign holders use is beyond basic but people will still back them up. I think the apologists are probably worse than the offenders in a lot of ways. A single person may make a vile error in judgment on occasion. We have no way of knowing if for some this is a single incident. However the apologists constantly and deliberate Jew hate and trying to justify or deny.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 02/12/2023 12:56

Since the terrorist attacks in Israel on 7 October, officers have made 436 arrests for related offences here in London

But only 47 charges or "other outcomes", which sounds an awfully convenient way to fudge how many actually were charged

noblegiraffe · 02/12/2023 13:00

Not sure why you're all focusing negatively on the 'Jewish theme' and not praising Ford for this detail.

"at a recent event I told a young woman of mixed race descent (not sure of exact mix) who had a jewish granny that she gave me faith in the future of London."

Have said nothing inappropriate anywhere. If I had I assume HQ would have taken action. Have just checked the info on the thing I went to - yep the Jewish angle was highlighted in the billing. The speaker/host was jewish and highlighted this - which was entirely natural in the light of the subject/matter under discussion. If you want to adopt an attitude of mock outrage as some sort of keyboard war at the word "theme" that's up to you. The event was interesting if not as interesting as I had hoped.

Why is there no main protest this weekend?

Lots of small pro p ones in London and elsewhere. It is colder plus people are now busy with certain TV shows and Xmas things so they probably won't get the numbers if big one every weekend

Antisemitism march or peace vigils tend to happen every 2 or 3 weeks. We all have jobs and other commitments, so it is harder for people to free up time and travel. Plus better to have a more meaningful peaceful event less often than something that is rushed and doesn't get the point across.
