I stopped reading the daily mail. Terrible journalism that seeks to cause disunity, hatred and division. I don't think it particularly cares about anti Semitism but does seem to have a hatred of Muslims. But yet again the sweeping generalisations being made on here about pro Palestinians.

I think the Daily Mail is an excellent paper in terms of keeping us up to date with news items - very quick reporting. I don't like some of the comments of readers on the articles. The DM is certainly very concerned with anti- Semitism hence its articles from Boris Johnson and articles about the unbridled growth in anti-Semitism.
It is doing a brilliant job in calling out the hate speech in the Pro Palestinian marches like "river to the sea", keffieyeh wearing, masks and placards, fireworks at police, climbing monuments, etc.

I salute the paper for bringing us the images - you can't argue with the images!

Read what you want.
Do you think the DM is making this report up? It happened.
Plenty of other news sources reporting it if you don't want to read the DM.

Cleverestclog · 30/11/2023 12:22

Talking of hatred and division, why do you think these 'protestors' turned up to such an innocuous gathering? It certainly wasn't to facilitate a sense of peace and cohesion.

Agree.

Rachna83 · 30/11/2023 12:25

If you read my post I'm talking about these incidents constantly being used on mumsnet and by the daily mail to tarnish everybody that supports the Palestinian cause. I support the Palestinian cause but do not approve of such actions. I have attended a Palestinian march and a vigil and both were peaceful events to raise awareness and show support and solidarity.

Apart from the hate speech and anti-Semitic placards present at all marches, eh?

That may be peaceful to you but not for people opposed to anti-Semitic racism .

Stomacharmeleon · 30/11/2023 14:21

If they weren't happening there would be nothing to 'tarnish' surely.
There was nothing peaceful about what Happened in New York's

Depdawg · 30/11/2023 15:13

New York was just another example of extreme intolerance.
One of the other examples being harassing people eating at McDonalds,
targeting Jewish schools etc.
Who the hell do these people think they
are trying to impose their ideology
on to other citizens.
Classless and thuggish.
They then have the audacity to hide
their bigotry and intolerance behind
Large numbers.
Bullies.

ohforheavenssakedearcomeonnow · 30/11/2023 16:01

Yes this bullying is also to be seen on other threads where is a poster dares to suggest there is another side to a story eg an IDF soldier shooting a Palestinian, then about 10 + posters heap a torrent of vitriol upon the poster - behind large numbers -relatively speaking for a forum.

Depdawg · 30/11/2023 16:19

Why am I not surprised? @ohforheavenssakedearcomeonnow

Itsaharddlife · 30/11/2023 18:43

You do realise that Hanukkah itself hasn't been cancelled? A celebration has been cancelled, criticise that all you want.

Ramdan isn't a festival and nor does it rely on whether the government will light some candles. Its a month of fasting and praying.

Bringing ramadan into the equation only speaks of your ignorance.

I meant something like this:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-65030988

Red telephone box in the foreground of Ramadan lights in Piccadilly

Ramadan: London's West End lit up for Islamic festival for first time

Some 30,000 lights are aglow in central London to celebrate the start of the holy month of Ramadan.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-65030988

Itsaharddlife · 30/11/2023 19:07

Jupitersstorm · 30/11/2023 19:00

That's not ramadan though? That's a bunch of lights.
I'm not familiar with hannukah so I won't comment on that.
But ramadan can't be cancelled. Muslims don't care for celebrations and lights being lit during ramadan, its not exactly a month of celebration. Perhaps you might have meant eid instead? Maybe that would've made a little more sense, but even then eid cannot be cancelled.

Jupitersstorm · 30/11/2023 19:16

Sigh. The BBC report refers to it as a festival and London was lit up for this. It makes perfect sense given that I was referring to a BBC item. If it's wrong, why not take it up with the BBC!

Edited

It doesnt make any sense. A common argument on these threads is that anyone posting should do their research before they post. I'd day the same to you.
You posted on here, so I responded to you. Clearly you'd like to stay ignorant, but that also explains why a lot of you like the dailymail. So continue.
In any case I don't want to derail this thread as I think its here for good reason even if some of the posts on here haven't been

Arrogance personified.

noblegiraffe · 30/11/2023 19:32

It is indeed worrying that antisemitism levels have got so out of hand that the council won't light a menorah because it would be vandalised.

And that's obviously genuine antisemitism, not 'valid criticism of Israel' or whatever.

You are right, if the BBC have mislabelled Ramadan that's worrying, especially as many read what they say and take it that it must be correct. I won't even look at the Daily Mail, don't even want to give them the website views. I wouldn't trust anything they have to say.

Jup - you are much more polite than me . You were called ignorant after linking the BBC which does say Ramadan is a festival and the Muslim mayor - himself a celebrant with the lights.

What a shame you were disrespected like this.

Oh dear there's obviously some confusion.
Was this not you?
"Would Ramadan have been cancelled?"

It was you I called ignorant.

Trulywonderful · 30/11/2023 20:11

Poster was just posting fuckwittery

Yes Ramadan can't be cancelled

But an event to mark Ramadan can be cancelled

The same as Hanukkah, it can't be cancelled.

However an event to mark Hanukkah can be cancelled

And it has apparently

This is a very basic thing and yet the apparently someone still doesn't understand. Seriously my brain cries at some of the posts on here sometimes. This kind of thing isn't rocket science.

FromEden · 30/11/2023 20:14

You seem more outraged about someones description of Ramadan than about the fact that a Jewish tradition, heretofore publicly honoured, can't go ahead because of anti semitism. Strange

ChickHenLittle · 30/11/2023 20:14

I wonder about the motivation for bringing Ramadan into it in the first place. Hmm.

Trulywonderful · 30/11/2023 20:17

Of course they are

Standard reaction about anything Jewish from some parts of society currently

Ignore any Jew hate directed at Jewish people

Only worry about how the conflict affects other communities or what other communities think.

Depdawg · 30/11/2023 20:19

getting wrapped up in semantics =
more gaslighting.
Another great distraction technique.
