There is very strong challenge yes (including by me) but in all honesty I feel some of that is because the pro Israeli posters (at least on the threads I’ve seen) mainly come across as lacking any sort of empathy at all to the plight of Palestinians. Their suffering and casualties are either ignored, dismissed as collateral damage, or blamed wholly on Hamas. There’s reference to Jewish suffering and persecution but those posters dont acknowledge Palestinians are suffering. Even before this conflict they led miserable lives and that has also been multi generational. Is that partly to blame on the corruption and incompetence of their leaders, yes, but the root cause is also living under occupation. I hear what you say about Jewish suffering both past and present and I understand why it feels like a very scary time for British Jews. Can you see though that it can appear some pro-Israeli posters reference Jewish suffering almost like a kind of trump card to justify behaviour that is causing phenomenal carnage and devastation to another group of people ? In my view that’s what triggers many people.

The only thing that triggers many posters - not you, no doubt - are the words ‘Jew’, ‘Zionist’ or ’Israel’.

None of these words is bad or carries stigma. Except among antisemites.

Nobody on this thread or on any other I’ve read on MN has suggested that Palestinian lives are less worthy than any other lives.

What is revealing is that so many threads are, and so much vitriol is, devoted to Israel.

The horrors of the regime in Myanmar have cost thousands and thousands of innocent lives. Without any justification of self-defence. Why is that not on MN as a subject for discussion hundreds of times a week?

Because it doesn’t involve Jews.

But dare I say it - is it because it this conflict is conflated in many people's minds - as Jews killing Muslims indiscriminately?

I see this conflict is an attempt by Israel to eradicate Hamas, get the hostages back, protect their borders and help make Gaza safer for its inhabitants.

Stomacharmeleon · 29/11/2023 16:47

@Depdawg I have seen several.

Hi DesertRose,

Please don't take this the wrong way but don't you think that some of your posts are potentially quite upsetting to a people who have suffered greatly throughout history and are suffering still?

This.
Reread your posts @Desertrose2023 .

There are so many threads pro Palestine. There are a few threads about the hostages taken on 7th October, a few about anti semitism/anti semitism march and yet constantly people pop up with the nasty comments, whataboutery, 'why don't you care about Palestinian people because they have it worse' more whataboutery, prove you care about Gaza etc constantly, over and over. Is any corner chatting about a real worry of anti semitism safe from the hate, it appears not. Over and over again, people cannot seem to help themselves 🤔

This is how I see it. A world without Hamas or the other terrorist group holding hostages must be better for Palestinian people. A proper democracy, money on infrastructure, health, education etc., not taken by Hamas for weapons or squirrelled off to Qatar for the leaders pockets.

I mean why hasn't this been deleted for example but my post linking to a thread is?
This post is clear derailment.

MN - please come look at this thread.

Rachna83 · 29/11/2023 17:43

Where to start. Take Hamas away you are still left with Gaza who's borders, sea and air are governed by Israel. It's only airport bombed by Israel. Do you think Israel will let Gaza be truly self governing even if Hamas is taken out of the equation or will there always be a security threat to justify a continuation of the current way? You look at the west bank, no hamas but a brutal occupation with continued settlements, indiscriminate arrests including children with no fair legal system.. I could go on. The current government does not seem interested in committing to a peace solution.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 29/11/2023 18:04

Take Hamas away @Rachna83 thats tens of thousands of terrorists, as well as ten other different armed groups. There are also terrorist groups in the West Bank. All groups involved in this mess, including the IDF, are responsible for it.

And there we have it.

A world without a home for Jews would be for the best, apparently.

November 12, 2023, Paris, 100,000 attend a march against antisemitism.

March against antisemitism on Sunday
Jupitersstorm · 29/11/2023 22:49

Vive Le France! We are fighting against those who would raise their voices against us again.

Stomacharmeleon · 29/11/2023 22:50

@XRAYTHIS well at least al jeezera acknowledged it.

XRAYTHIS · 29/11/2023 23:00

A quote from a man on the Paris march

'I Feel Less Alone
Holding a French flag, Robert Fiel said marching against anti-Semitism was “more than a duty”.
“It’s a march against violence, against anti-Semitism, against all [political extremes] that are infiltrating the society, to show that the silent majority does exist,” the 67-year-old said.'

Meanwhile, in New York City last night, Pro Palestinian protestors really endeared everybody to their "cause" with their uncivilised, Neanderthal behaviour during a tree lighting ceremony for Christmas!

They really read the room.

As usual, covered faces. Cowards out for
troubling, bullying their ways on
anyone and everyone.
Thugs.

Rachna83 · 30/11/2023 12:12

I stopped reading the daily mail. Terrible journalism that seeks to cause disunity, hatred and division. I don't think it particularly cares about anti Semitism but does seem to have a hatred of Muslims. But yet again the sweeping generalisations being made on here about pro Palestinians.

Yes because the publication in
which the article appears, really changes the situation.
Read it in the Guardian and the event never took place.
It seems you are perfectly in agreement
with their actions.
Talking of hatred and division, why do you think these 'protestosrs' turned up to such an innocuous gathering? It certainly wasn't to facilitate a sense of peace and cohesion.
They stereotype themselves.
