I have been researching a lot since this conflict involving thousands of child deaths started.

Should I have been researching Israel before that? If so, why?

So you decided that the entirety of the nation of Israel support their government in everything without taking the five minutes needed to fond out if that's actually true.

Depdawg · 27/11/2023 17:54

😅

No one is "creating equation". What is happening is people are talking about how they are worried about anti-Semitism and other people like you are dismissing their fears as hurt feelings and shaming them for being worried about the racism they face.

I'm sure if you or someone else started a thread about racism against travellers and people came on to say how dare you complain about hurt feelings when people are dying, and the traveller community are not helping themselves anyway, you'd go off on one.

The beach girl must have been banned as her anti-Semitic head has stopped popping up.

Nah.
Still
Here. 👋🏻

Still not antisemitic to criticise the actions of the Israeli government and their genocidal ethnic cleansing. Never will be.

That particular screech doesn't work anymore.
We see you.

Depdawg · 27/11/2023 17:58

Thereissomelight · 27/11/2023 17:53

That was to @SharonEllis in response to a post she made that she has since said she had mixed up.

No you misunderstand.
Someone has finally admitted to knowing nothing about the ME conflict before Hamas struck.
You deserve a big 👏 for being the first. I really was surprised at the high percentage of posters who were experts on the topic.

Depdawg · 27/11/2023 17:47

My privilege? You are assuming I have one. I would like to know when that is going to start. Not sure about your attachment and how that is supposed to address antisemitism, as the march did yesterday. Are you on the right thread?

Do you have a roof over your head? Access to clean drinking water and food? Are you going to sleep tonight fairly confident that you will wake up in the morning? If the answer to these questions is yes then you are privileged. We all are.

Still not Islamophobic to wave an Israeli flag.

No, I knew about the illegal settlers all right. And quite a bit more. Just didn’t follow it closely enough (why would I? I don’t live there) to realise how out of control things had become.

ohforheavenssakedearcomeonnow · 27/11/2023 18:00

Depdawg · 27/11/2023 17:32

Most probably just parking up.

Hmmm - is there a clue in this post as to whom this poster might really be ?

beachcitygirl · 27/11/2023 18:02

@basculin I have more reason than most on here to fear racism,

My community are still hated worldwide and subject to horrific discrimination.

My family were targeted by the Nazis for total destructions

So just don't assume.

It's also the reason I shout about genocide and discrimination.

When we said never again. Some of us meant it.

Do all of those things stop Jews for appealing to an end to anti semitism? You have a point but it's a non sequitur on this thread.

OuiOuiKitty · 27/11/2023 18:03

Mdg247 · 27/11/2023 16:57

May I politely ask here, why the flag is such an issue for you?

Waving the flag of any country doesn’t mean you support a government nor its military policy. Plenty of people wave British flags at numerous occasions, it doesn’t mean they’re a fan of Rishi Sunak or they’re in favour of past British military excursions.

By the same degree as you have mentioned, should many British Jews feel appalled by the Palestinian flag? Since it is often waved by antisemites AND peaceful protestors?

i would argue most people wave the israeli flag in solidarity with family and friends, not for political reasons. People are human beings, no matter who their government are.

You’re making this into something it is not and dehumanising israelis at the same time, since many of them oppose netanyahu, want to live in peace, and are also being tarnished by the brush of the government, to be labelled ‘white supremacists’ ‘Nazis’ and everything else they are all being lumped in with. I don’t see anything wrong with supporting other human beings.

Like I've said twice now, I'm entitled to my opinion on this march and how the imagery of the Israeli flag being flown in the UK whist Israel are killing 1 in every 200 children, killing aid workers, killing medics etc made me feel just as the 100s of posts about other marches are entitled to express how they feel. Again, like I said if people are happy with their choice to drape themselves in the Israeli flag then good for them but you cannot control the opinions others may form about you if you do so. I wouldn't presume to dictate to British Jews how they should feel about Palestinian flags, I'm not sure why you think I should?

I have said nothing about Nazis, nothing about white supremacists etc. So I'm not sure if that is directed at me? All I have done is said that people are free to fly whatever flag they want and feel whatever way they want about doing so and I am free to feel whatever way I want about it. I don't think that that is controversial.

This reveals how little you know! It would be constructive if people would do some research

But they do.

There was this as well (though not related to the war).

Thank you. I saw these too, and this is what I meant when I said that it’s been good to see that there is opposition to what’s happening in Gaza. All the more so when you come to realise (as I only recently have) how much suppression of free speech there is in Israel. People are at risk of losing their jobs and worse (see Gideon Levy for example) for speaking out.

beachcitygirl · 27/11/2023 18:06

@Depdawg she's replying to your point about you saying how does she know you have privilege.
No one in the UK is not privileged compared to Palestinians. It's not complicated. So yes, you're privileged. HTH

I really don't know how I managed to answer the post directed at me without your assistance.
You're full of help aren't you.

Sorry, why are you talking about your hurt feelings when people are dying? 🙄

All of those things are true for Jewish people, and yet it doesn't stop you from shaming them and belittling them and calling them despicable for talking about it.

ChickHenLittle · 27/11/2023 18:10

Those who oppose a march against antisemitism are not anti-racist… they're racist.

Can we apply the same to those shouting down pro-Palestine marches, protesting for a ceasefire? And those who called them pro-Hamas marches? As they weren't there to condemn the bombardment of Gaza.

Surely the presence of the far right at the march against antisemitism shows that they turn up everywhere. Tommy Robinson will be at any gathering where he sees potential to cause trouble and offence. Yet it was the fault of those marching for Palestine for encouraging such behaviour when he turned up at one, according to many posters.

Personally I am glad people can safely and happily march against antisemitism and to support Palestinians. What I don't understand is the outrage when some posters on this thread have called pro-Palestine marchers Hamas supporters, antisemitic and all sorts.

WhileMyDishwasherGentlyWeeps · 27/11/2023 18:11

The reason for objecting to the Israeli flag is that the objectors dislike a country founded by Jews and that is the Jewish homeland. It’s an objection to Jews and Jewry. It’s not an objection to acts of the nation.

It’s a way of eliding the Israeli flag with banned symbols of terror.

It’s the impulse of the antisemitic.

Comedycook · 27/11/2023 18:11

Fun fact.... putting "HTH" after your posts really does bring others round to your way of thinking

The butchers apron is a well known critical name of the british flag. That's why I mentioned both in my post.

Nobody equates 'hurt feelings" with being a victim of violence. However, what the march was about was standing up against antisemitism. Racism lurks and grows if it isn't challenged. By dehumanising Jews who are the victims of racism & prejudice here (what the march was about - British Jews) and saying their feelings don't matter you are laying the groundwork for violence against them. History shows us what happens. People are safe here - until they are not and then it's too late

We've also seen it in Hamas's attack. Face to face brutal violence and mutilation of Jews by people who have been brought up to hate. And then here, in this country, people celebrating those acts because they too have dehumanised Jews to the point where that obscene level of torture was considered acceptable and even more.

It doesn't wash to pretend you don't understand. We see you.

@basculin because I don't talk about my hurt feelings. I don't march about them, I don't deny my privilege.

I use my family's background as a spur to oppose genocide.

Children are being killed in their thousands.
Stand up for them.

Yes, I know. I’ve edited my post to take that out because I realised afterwards you were making a comment about far-right marches (I think) which is fair enough on its own.

But not really fair enough if you think that peoples can be vilified that way. Particularly if their only crime is to gather together as Jews.
