Previous post by Professor of international Law at Queens University noted Israel has a long history of Presenting unverifiable evidence.

They have been in the hospital now over 16hours or so. They said they were pinpointing specific areas in the hospital. I’m not convinced it takes that long to present evidence.

International communities and Aid Agencies wanted independent verification. We haven’t had that and, unfortunately, we never will now.
This is unfortunate for Israel. Had they allowed independent verification they would be seen in a better light, by some.

Not that that would ever justify killing civilians…of course.

Agree.
They say they want to preserve victims’ privacy, so we are not entitled to any proof. We must take witnesses at their word.

Is this really enough though?
Why not ask international medics to confirm injuries/causes of death and present a report to everyone?
It’s the least Israel could do, if they’re asking everyone to believe that they are now justified in killing 11,000 people and making more than a million homeless.

Thereissomelight · 15/11/2023 16:15

By the above, I’m talking about some of the descriptions of what happened on Oct 7.

Thereissomelight · 15/11/2023 16:17

And you’re right, it still wouldn’t justify the deaths and injuries of so many children.

France is the latest country to criticise Israels operation in Al shifa hospital. I always thought France was very pro-Israel so quite suprised by their recent statements. I think the first sentence is something we all resonate with.

“The Palestinian population should not be made to pay for Hamas’s crimes, even less so the vulnerable, injured or sick and the humanitarian workers who courageously continue their work in extremely dangerous conditions,” the French foreign ministry said in a statement, reported by AFP.
France “expresses its very serious concern about Israeli military operations in [the] al-Shifa hospital,” the ministry added.

Stomacharmeleon · 15/11/2023 16:42

@Readingallnight surely it's naive to think that giving evidence etc will be done overnight? They have said they will provide it...

Parkingt111 · 15/11/2023 16:45

In regards to tunnels and bunkers under Al shifa hospital, sky's military analysis posted a piece today which included this. I actually didn't know that Israel also built them in Gaza

"We all know there are bunkers and tunnels because the Israelis built some of them when they were in control of the al Shifa hospital before 2005," he said.

They are very Pro- Israel and still are.

They are concerned about a Muslim rebellion:
"Philippe Karsenty, a French-Jewish media analyst and former deputy mayor of the Paris suburb of Neuilly-sur-Seine, was more specific. “Macron is seeking to avoid a civil insurrection by Muslims. He doesn’t want another French intifada, so he’s betraying Israel,” said Karsenty."

Reports from inside Al Shifa that the IDF have left the hospital and are now outside.
No report on what’s happened to the 200 or so men that were taken out of the hospital.
Hopefully they will stop bombing it now and allow medical supplies, fuel and food in.

@tobeinthemaldives I don't know much about French politics but I wouldn't be entirely suprised if it's more a political statement than one of genuine concern

Readingallnight · 15/11/2023 17:44

Shame they didn’t invite the reporter from Al Jazeera who lives opposite the hospital in to al-Shifa with the IDF as an independent witness.
The IDF have allowed reporters to follow them about before.
Then we could have seen what is really happening.

Instead he was ordered to leave his home.

"Witnesses have in recent days described conditions inside the hospital as horrific, with medical procedures taking place without anaesthetic, families with scant food or water living in corridors, and the stench of decomposing corpses filling the air."

From the Guardian. Sounds horrific.

greatsatsuma · 15/11/2023 17:47

A witness inside the hospital told the BBC’s correspondent in Palestine, Rushdi Abu Alouf, that soldiers had entered the complex and “fired a smoke bomb that caused people to suffocate”. The Guardian has not been able to verify the claims.

Scared to think who they’ve taken with them and what are they going to do to these people 😪

I saw a video of doctors walking around some empty wards covered in smoke and coughing.
I don’t know if it’s the same incident but it was about the time the IDF said they were going in.
There was no military personal around.
Presumably the video was taken by another doctor,

Another one for Israel and their lies

Evidence Points to Israeli Shells in Strikes on Gaza’s Largest Hospital
Israel said Palestinian militants had misfired projectiles, but an analysis of photos and videos of Friday’s strikes shows that some of the munitions were likely fired by Israeli forces.

So amongst other issues mentioned I particularly picked up on the glaringly obvious issue at the maternity ward.

Firing at the maternity ward
Tank shells found
Hamas do not have tanks.
Israel deny it was them firing….? So who then!

Worth a watch:

The Israeli claimed they delivered humanitarian aid to Al Shifa hospital.

- Palestinian journalist tells how in reality the Israelis bIow up the medical storage with the little medicines the hospital had left.

greatsatsuma · 15/11/2023 18:18

Also from Twitter:

Premature babies in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Al Shifa Hospital were taken off incubators and relocated as Israel struck the hospital’s solar panels.

Six premature babies and nine injured patients at the hospital’s ICU reportedly died due to power outage

Readingallnight · 15/11/2023 18:20

A doctor at al-shifa reported the IDF brought nothing with them.
