At the moment other wars and conflicts don't seem to matter to a lot of people. For example: they are appalled about the lack of medical care im Gaza atm. But the fact is that lots of people never have access to health care.

I'm sorry I don't understand your point? We shouldn't discuss a situation where an army has destroyed healthcare facilities while it kills and injures thousands of people because other places have poor healthcare?

Absolutely @Toothyfruity with 38 journalists plus many of their families killed by IDF bombardment ( has that been updated, I don’t know ) plus others simply not allowed access by the Israel Govn getting anything independently verified is practically impossible.
Unless of course if the IDF invite them in. But then that’s questionable aswell, they will only be showed what the IDF want to show them.
Or if they live there ie the Al Jazeera reporter living opposite Al-shifa hospital ( he was asked to leave his home a few days ago, he didnt, no idea if he has as yet )

Many more countries are now calling for a ceasefire with Spain and Norway just adding to the list.
This has happened quicker than analysts expected, which was a further 2weeks ( a week ago).
Does this mean Israel will stop.
Clearly Israel has given way on moving the babies due to an International outcry but will they, reduce and / or stop the bombardment as more and more countries condemn the war.
Or will they wait for the US to stand down.

@Toothyfruity think we should all screen shot our posts. The deletes are bizarre.

@Nicesalad not having healthcare is different to a systematic attack on the helathcare infrastructure of a land under seige who are being constantly bombed and attacked and trapped with nowhere to go whether by land, air or sea

Parkingt111 · 19/11/2023 18:28

@SomeCatFromJapan thanks
It's always been known there are tunnels under Al shifa hospital because some were built by the Israeli government prior to Hamas coming into power.
Waiting to see what bbc verify and other military analysts have to say

Stomacharmeleon · 19/11/2023 18:51

@Parkingt111 sky are showing the footage now although it is yet to be verified.

Parkingt111 · 19/11/2023 18:57

@Stomacharmeleon thanks will have a look

I don’t think the bbc are in Al-shifa at the moment or has this been confirmed somewhere

BBC reporting now that the premature babies have arrived in a maternity hospital in Southern Gaza. The footage shows that they are crammed 3 or 4 to an incubator, which rather suggests that the incubator shortage was an "actual fact" and not an "emotive rewriting of the truth".

Yes they are clearly crammed in to those incubators but at least they all made it there alive.
We have to be thankful for small mercies.

OP posts:
Parkingt111 · 19/11/2023 19:04

@Motorina was just coming on to say the babies have arrived safely
The bbc have finally obtained footage of the babies which shows they are alive but very unwell. They have added a warning to the footage as it can be upsetting for some

Parkingt111 · 19/11/2023 19:05

@Readingallnight definitely
I hope next they can evacuate out of Gaza safely as the care they will recieve here will clearly be inadequate due to lack of resources

I believe the plan is to get them to Egypt.
Egypt has agreed it’s simply the logistics and presumably the condition of the babies that is delaying the transfer.
Their family members ( those who had any ) were ordered to evacuate Al Shifa leaving the babies behind so let’s also hope that they can be found and evacuated with them.

Not at all. Of course it's an absolutely awful situation.

But I just wonder why this particular conflict is getting so much attention, virtually constant reporting and a lot of footage of horrendus suffering when other conflicts don't.

Loads of threads on Ukraine war on here, including so many from around when the war started. Not hard to find if you look for them.

This is urgent and ongoing now. People are appalled. Our government is supporting it. We are trying to raise awareness and discuss it. That is why we are posting a lot.

Did you wonder the same thing last year about Russia and Ukraine ?

More citizens have died in this conflict in a month than in the Russian / Ukraine war in year and a half. For me that’s enough reason to get more attention

the politicians also have spoken in our name without really asking who their citizens stand with , hence why many of the demos in many places.

Nic, I agree. I am not a what about XYZ person but what Pakistan is doing to 1.7m Afghans in theory should get criticism on MN particularly as they are being sent back to very difficult conditions in Taliban controlled Afghanistan where there is not enough food. I have always been consistent on this - thinking the coverage over say 9/11 was much wider than the the 500k to 800k tutsis killed by hutus in Rwanda.

Back to Israel I see as ever Israel is vindicated or appears to be - on the tunnels https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2023/11/19/israel-gaza-latest-news-updates-hamas-palestine-day-44-live/

The numbers are rising: 13,000 killed now incl. 5,500 children. Ceasefire now!

Gaza's health ministry: at least 13,000 Palestinians killed and 30,000 injuredAt least 13,000 Palestinians have been killed and 30,000 have been injured by Israeli strikes across Gaza since 7 October, Gaza’s health ministry announced on Sunday.

Out of the 13,000 killed by Israeli strikes, 5,500 of those are children and 3,500 are women, Reuters reports the statement adding.

I’ve read there are 6k missing as well

Readingallnight · 19/11/2023 20:38

Obviously nothing can be independently verified at the moment re : Al-shifa etc
However
The telegraph report re cctv footage presented by the IDF I would say
No one disputes people were taken hostage
No one disputes some of those hostages could well have been injured.
Everyone would agree, I’m guessing, that any injured hostages should receive medical attention.
If this cctv footage is real then surely it just shows Hamas took hostages for medical treatment at Al- shifa.

Or am I missing something here.

OP posts:
greatsatsuma · 19/11/2023 20:38

@EasterIssland so sad. It wouldn't surprise me if there were many more than 6k missing and dead. Such is the chaos of this attack on Gaza.

greatsatsuma · 19/11/2023 20:41

@Readingallnight exactly what I thought.

I read that somewhere Israel themselves had added tunnels under the hospital BEFORE they left Gaza. So if that were true it hardly proves that the tunnels were Hamas. They could just be ones that Israel had built themselves ages ago.
