I also hope this is true. Only God knows how much damage has been done to these little babies spending so much time out of their incubators.

It's terribly sad that the others were killed. When I think about the attitude towards Lucy Letby murdering premature babies and how disgusted and horrified everyone was but then these babies were just left to slowly die and nobody will be held accountable for this cruelty.

As for the situation in al Shifa. There are no words. I've never been so disgusted. I have nothing useful to add but thanks to everyone on this thread who keep posting updates. All the people who continue to support Israel should read this thread.

I remember reading accounts of the Napoleonic Wars where the field hospital included what were in effect dying rooms. A space were wounded soldiers with infected wounds, untreatable before antibiotics, were placed to rot. Filled with the sounds and stench of men suffering their way to death.

I rember the idea horrifying me as I read about it. But the more I read about Al Shifa and the other Gaza hospitals, the more it reminds me of the conditions then.

This link describes a field hospital in the American Civil War. https://www.battlefields.org/learn/articles/everyday-life-civil-war-hospital Change a few details, and we could be in Gaza.

It is absolutely shameful that we are seeing the same scenes played out in real time, in a world with antibiotics and an understanding of antisepsis, where these patients could so easily be saved, but won't be.

I literally just saw now on the news a man describing maggots that were on the wounds of the injured 😭

@Efacsen thank you
A small glimpse of hope and good news in a sea of despair
Still great to hear, let's hope the good news continues and this nightmare can come to an end

Efacsen · 19/11/2023 12:03

The babies are en route to the 2 hospitals in Khan Younis in six Save the Children ambulances - not enough incubators for all of them when they get there but at least the hospitals have electricity, water, etc and don't have human waste in the corridors.

They will also be only 5 or 6 miles from the border crossing to Egypt if treatment in Egypt is still a possibility

Xenia · 19/11/2023 12:24

Not wanting in any way to dimish the suffering of the babies whose throats were slit by Hamas terrorists nor babies dying in Gaza, but equally Pakistan is expelling 1.7m Afghanistans (and Iran is expelling them too). It seems that man's inhumanity to man on this planet (and it IS usually men not women) knows no bounds...."The latest statistics reveal the deaths of 13 000 newborns in Afghanistan since January 2022 due to malnutrition and other health-related diseases. If left unchecked, the anticipated universal poverty of all Afghanis will result in the wasting of 1.1 million children <5 y of age in 2022"https://academic.oup.com/inthealth/article/15/4/353/6692347

Al Jazeera are reporting there are 31 babies on the way to Nasser hospital with only 6 incubators available for them to use.

Al Jazeera are reporting there are 31 babies on the way to Nasser hospital with only 6 incubators available for them to use.

The Guardian is reporting something slightly different and Reuters are now saying that they will be transferred [from Khan Younis} to the Emirates Hospital in Rafah

It's all a bit confusing but sound like they are out of Al Shifa

And those were able-bodied soldiers!!

It's so horrifying. So outrageous. So monstrous. So evil.

I don't know which I feel more, the deep sadness or the outrage.

@StarbucksSmarterSister some people won't let actual fact suppress their need for emotive rewriting of the truth.

Or, you know, people are doing their best given that the reporting on this issue in particular has been rapidly changing and sometimes inconsistent.

The truth is Israel are committing a genocide. 6 ambulances or 6 incubators makes no significant difference. That is a fact and if you can’t see it. Well I can’t help you.

Readingallnight · 19/11/2023 15:27

StarbucksSmarterSister · 19/11/2023 14:49

For anyone who hasn't seen this. It says six ambulances, not six incubators.
https://twitter.com/GrantSmithEllis/status/1726194200381710606?t=XPUeIyDhuO0hCjFsSKWUYA&s=19

A previous report said six incubators at Nasser hospital as all other incubators there were full.
There have been many conflicting reports .
However now reports from doctors at Al Shifa have said they will eventually go to Egypt, preparations are under way for that move.
That’s The 31 surviving babies and any family members.

OP posts:
Parkingt111 · 19/11/2023 15:58

The Guardian has just reported it was 6 ambulances from the Palestinian red crescent society
The UN chief further added
We’re deeply moved and impressed by the extraordinary bravery and service of the health workers in Gaza, who continue to serve under the most dire and difficult circumstances.

The health workers in Gaza are the real heroes

Parkingt111 · 19/11/2023 16:04

The Scottish first ministers brother in law is also a doctor working in Gaza. From the Guardian

“He says he’s never seen death and destruction like it. He told me he doesn’t know how he’s going to recover from it.

“He said one of his early jobs, when the conflict began, was to try to match body parts with the correct body. He’s in a terrible way.”

I really hope that once this war is over, the health care workers can recieve the counselling or aid they need to come to terms with the horrors they have witnessed

EasterIssland · 19/11/2023 16:08

From bbc

Many of the 31 babies evacuated to the Emirati Hospital in Rafah on Sunday have “lost their parents in bombardments” by Israel, Nebal Farsakh has told the BBC.
She says the surviving parents had been ordered to leave Gaza City - where al-Shifa hospital is located - before the babies’ evacuation, and their current whereabouts are unknown.
Farsakh adds that she doesn’t have any information on whether the babies would be transferred from Rafah to a new facility

——
my heart breaks for those poor babies and parents forced to leave without knowing about your child whereabouts

Stomacharmeleon · 19/11/2023 16:18

@Motorina perhaps if that's the case people should wait until something more concrete is posted. It seems like a desperate scramble for who can post something anti Israeli the quickest.... especially from dodgy sources. This is after all a discussion board not a news site.

Parker231 · 19/11/2023 16:21

This needs updating

Israel has bombed the front of a hospital / 2
Readingallnight · 19/11/2023 16:23

Here’s one of the reports I read.
Noting only 6 incubators available which is maybe why the babies are now being moved to Egypt.
Of note the Twitter post only mentions ambulances, there is no mention of incubators at all so I’m not sure why the original criticism was made.
We should never jump to conclusions

Israel has bombed the front of a hospital / 2

At the moment other wars and conflicts don't seem to matter to a lot of people. For example: they are appalled about the lack of medical care im Gaza atm. But the fact is that lots of people never have access to health care.
