@FOJN Just read the wiki page on Al Shifa hospital. I don't know if it's relevant, but it says Israeli architects built a command centre and connecting tunnels under the hospital in 1983.

Interesting, wouldn't Israel have the plans to those?

stormy4319trevor · 15/11/2023 22:06

At least that's what the IDF thought Hamas used to plan Oct 7th attacks, to avoid detection.

stormy4319trevor · 15/11/2023 22:08

@FOJN Yes, it was designed by Israeli architects , according to wiki. I was just thinking it would be strange for Hamas to use somewhere so well known by Israel, though maybe they have just made use of it as it's there?

Apologies as the Twitter link is to a Spanish account but the video from idf is in English

this sentence is important tho. How come do they have rusty weapons in a magnetic room and a laptop without a password ?

“The "evidence" they found in the hospital is not tunnels or hostages, but four rusty AKs placed next to a magnetic camera (metallic objects next to a magnetic source, the normal thing) and a laptop without a password where a photo of a hostage

Doctor at Al shifa hospital told the BBC two people from the maintenance team were arrested and they destroyed some equipment too

They isolated male people in one room in tied hands and made major destruction of the CT [scanner], and also to the MRI machine and to multiple [ultrasound] and to furniture.
“Two people from the maintenance team have been arrested.”

I don't even know what to say. The IDF guy literally says it's an MRI scanner, they are not portable pieces of kit you pop in a cupboard when not in use.

The magnet can only be turned off by a ramp down or quench procedure, one procedure is eye wateringly expensive and the other is quite expensive and potentially dangerous. It only happens for planned/ necessary maintenance (not very often) or in an emergency.

The point being that the only way for all of that metal kit to be in that room is if the magnet has been deactivated which almost never happens for the reasons outlined above.

Motorina · 15/11/2023 22:38

The BBC have linked to a 7 minute video, released by the IDF, showing their evidence. Oddly, though, when I click through to watch that video the IDF appear to have taken it down.

They also say that the IDF state that AK47 rifles "were found behind MRI scanners". Now, I've never held an AK47, but my assumption is they are made mostly of metal. So the decision to store them behind an MRI scanner is again, for the reasons other posters have said, on the face of it an unusual one.

I wanted to watch the video to see if it added any clarity to where the rifles were found but, as I say, the link is dead and when I click through to the IDF twitter feed I can't find it.

All most perplexing.

No idea. Maybe it was never used? Would they have more than one and this one used by Hamas to hide things? To be honest you know my opinion I don’t trust a single woed
tje fact that the laptop doesn’t have any encryption and that the pic they find is from the woman they released that I never trust was a hostage …

🤷🏻‍♀️
What I’ve got clear is that they killed in that area people cuz Hamas was there and their hq was there. It’s been proof that they’ve barely recover nothing and Hamas wasn’t there. International war law doesn’t approve this way of attacking hospitals

Motorina · 15/11/2023 22:45

Depending on specification, they cost in the half million to five million range, so it's a big chunk of change just to spend to hide stuff in.

I mean, I have a very expensive but not particularly comfortable sofa that is mostly used for hiding socks and small change, so I guess it's possible to repurpose something that way, but...

Efacsen · 15/11/2023 22:47

@Motorina the intact clip is easily found on twitter + lots of clips of people throwing metal chairs etc into scanners + much hilarity

Thanks! Yeah sounds stupid my suggestion. But to be honest it all sounds 🤔 from this video (and the previous one from few days ago)

Sorry my opening sentence was incredulity at more IDF BS. The guns behind the MRI FFS.

It's a large hospital so potentially it could have 2 but I've worked in a huge teaching hospital (more beds than Al Shifa) and we only had one. The only place I've known to have two was a private clinic whose main business was performing MRI scans for people not willing to wait for the NHS.

It would be unusual for such an expensive bit of kit to go unused but you couldn't have all that metal in there. The only way I can think it's possible is if the cooling systems stopped working when the power went out or the hospital electively shut it down to save power but that would have occured in the last few weeks which means Hamas haven't been storing their guns and laptops in there for long if indeed those items belong to them. The electromagnetic charge will circulate indefinitely as long as the coils are cooled.

I suppose I keep being baffled by the IDF "evidence".

Efacsen · 15/11/2023 23:03

IDK but a radiologist on twitter is saying that the laptop would be used for viewing the scan in progress and the pile of CDs for recording the scan.

Not at all surprised the IDF clip has been removed - it doesn't just make them look dishonest but also foolish

Well quite. It doesn't look like a command center capable of orchestrating the 7th October attacks. The mobile phones seem out of place too, I thought Hamas didn't use mobiles because they know they are listened in on and can be tracked.

Couldn’t the magnets in an MRI machine scramble location signals and communications though which is why there might have been mobile phones and laptops close by?

Ideal to use hospitals with MRI scanners as operating bases for terrorist activities then especially with the added bonus of being able to use sick babies and now Israeli hostages as human shields and the whole world disgusted that Israel are targeting hospitals despite even the tiniest bit of research showing that it has been documented for decades that hospitals have been used in Gaza this way.

There is a video of the IDF speaking to the hospital director asking him to come out of the hospital so they can speak to him to arrange for the safety of patients while they come in. He is refusing saying they want to kill him, the IDF commander is insisting they have no intention of harming him. All very odd as you’d expect someone in charge of a hospital full of patients surrounded by military forces in a war zone to want to communicate with them!

I also understand that Israel build their hospitals with secure underground operating theatres, bomb shelters and underground tunnels for staff to move around in because well, they’re often under rocket attack! Might that be the reason they did the same with the Al Shifa hospital that they themselves built or are people thinking they deliberately built a ‘command centre’ for terrorists @stormy4319trevor !

People seem to forget why Israel is the only country in the world to need an iron dome in the first place.

An MRI scanner is more likely to damage electronic devices and render them unusable.

Motorina · 15/11/2023 23:48

@EasterIssland thank you.

Comparing the two, the new upload is around 20 seconds shorter. The old one showed the laptop screen with a picture of a soldier who they identified. The new one has the laptop screen blurred out and cuts off before naming that individual.

FOJN · 15/11/2023 23:59

Is the edit detectable?

Motorina · 16/11/2023 00:01

Only by watchign the two videos. They've basically cut off the last 20 seconds, so the information about the photo on the laptop screen and the individual in it has gone.

Seriously?

Go and read the NYT article someone else posted above about the shelling of that man's hospital. Watch the video, see the dead child and the trapped most likely dying child and tell me you would not be thinking that the IDF were trying to kill you. I think it's more odd you think he would trust the IDF. He has watched people being murdered by the IDF but you think he should just stroll on out.

FOJN · 16/11/2023 00:04

Ah I see so they haven't cut something from the middle. Johnathon ? made such a thing about no cuts or edits I just wondered if it was possible for them to do that and fool everyone.

I think the IDF are currently bulldozing part of another entrance to the hospital in preparation for entering another part of the complex.

The IDF manage to make good use of the telephone to issue their warnings so I don't blame the hospital director for avoiding a face to face conversation. I wouldn't trust the IDF either.
