I don’t think it means anything. In the kibbutz’s (people’s homes) they had weapons. In hospitals they have weapons. So what!

Unless they are using those weapons then I don’t care. Both areas are practically a war zone. Of course they have fucking weapons!

To me it’s very clear. Gaza/Hamas were wrong to go into Israel. Isreal is wrong to go into Gaza. Who’s currently where? Who’s in the wrong. Clearly Israel at this moment in time.

I agree. Sadly we cannot change the events of 7th October and I'm under no illusion that Hamas do pose a threat to Israeli civilians and that threat needs to be addressed but there is nothing which can justify depriving a civilian population of food, water and medical care and bombing so indiscriminately that thousands of civilians are killed.

FOJN · 15/11/2023 19:35

Wow, I didn't know that.

How will nation states who do recognise UN resolutions deal with diplomatic relations if the resolution passes. You can hardly vote in favour of it and then do nothing if Israel refuses to comply.

I know.
Maybe the US will have to force their hand.
It will be interesting to watch it all unfold.

The UN has no teeth, at the end of the day, what they say is irrelevant.

11,000 Palestinians killed so far with 40% children, that's almost 5,000 children killed, so sad.

Nearly 3000 missing aswel.
ie Under the rubble.
No idea what the make up of that number is.

You may have a point but I do think the way the voting goes matters and signals who does and does not support Israel's actions in Gaza. Whether that translates into pressure they respond to remains to be seen.

HeidiInTheBigCity · 15/11/2023 19:54

Okay, so ... let me get this straight:

Shifa was supposedly the Hamas Command and Control centre ... and we were supposed to believe this?

"Proof": a picture of, literally, less than a dozen AK-47s (also known as "Kalashnikovs"?)

10 Kalashnikovs seems like ... a rather ridiculously weak arsenal for "Hamas HQ". The propaganda is ... not great!

Jupitersstorm · 15/11/2023 19:55

ChickHenLittle · 15/11/2023 19:03

@Jupitersstorm So you think the Palestinian population SHOULD be made to pay for Hamas' crimes?

Edited

Technically THIS was the first sentence:
"France is the latest country to criticise Israels operation in Al shifa hospital."

This does not resonate with me as they are only criticising as they are getting a backlash from certain demographics. It's political.

You’re not alone with that thought.

@Readingallnight the vast majority of your 'thoughts' are from Al Jezeera. Hmm

Parkingt111 · 15/11/2023 20:49

@Stomacharmeleon to be fair i have just had a look at sky, bbc and guardian and all three have been reporting the al shifa hospital raid in slightly sceptical and critical tones.

Parkingt111 · 15/11/2023 20:52

The concern on the BBC report is similar to what many on here have been expressing.

Parkingt111 · 15/11/2023 21:04

After that huge operation that recieved condemnation from many countries and organisations a few guns and vests etc doesn't seem much

FOJN · 15/11/2023 21:05

The UN resolution for urgent and extended humanitarian pauses in Gaza PASSED. 12 votes in favour, none against and 3 abstentions, US, UK and Russia.

It's legally binding so let's see what the UN does if Israel refuses to comply.

Excellent. I think the Al shifa raid was the tipping point. Because even the US immediately distanced themselves saying they didn't give the green light. They also said they wouldn't veto this vote like the last one

FOJN · 15/11/2023 21:14

I'm so relieved the US didn't use their veto, I think that does send a strong message to Israel.

Thereissomelight · 15/11/2023 21:19

Humanitarian pauses, though. Better than nothing but nowhere near enough. Even if Israel listens, is it just going to prolong what they ultimately intend to do which is to take Gaza for themselves.

But they abstained, they are pathetic.

As did we, the UK. I agree it's a disgrace but a resolution needs 9 votes to pass and even if 14 members voted in favour but one of the 5 permanent members exercises their veto then the resolution is rejected.

I'm less concerned about how the resolution passed, just glad that it did.

The US not using its veto to prevent a resolution against Israel is huge even if it doesn't seem it.

OK I'm instantly confused.

Does the door have relevance here? Are they claiming the heartbeat of Hama operations was behind it? Are they claiming the door opens into the room with the chairs and tables and that is where they found the guns?

I know that seems like a lot of daft questions but that door is warning about the magnet in what I presume is an MRI scanner. MRI scanners are really expensive and if a hospital has one then it most likely only has one and every member of medical staff would know about it so you wouldn't hide your terrorist office behind that door and hope to remain unnoticed.

If there was actually an MRI scanner in that room they would have needed one of their tanks (OK slight exaggeration but I have seen a 4x4 deployed to pull a floor polisher out of one) to pull everything metal off the magnet, including their own weapons.

EasterIssland · 15/11/2023 21:54

To me if that’s where they hq was … recovering 10 guns only is shit really. Or they didn’t have many guns or they’ve taken them with them

stormy4319trevor · 15/11/2023 22:02

@FOJN Just read the wiki page on Al Shifa hospital. I don't know if it's relevant, but it says Israeli architects built a command centre and connecting tunnels under the hospital in 1983.

FOJN · 15/11/2023 22:04

Well quite. It doesn't look like a command center capable of orchestrating the 7th October attacks. The mobile phones seem out of place too, I thought Hamas didn't use mobiles because they know they are listened in on and can be tracked.

stormy4319trevor · 15/11/2023 22:05

I think the news mentioned land lines.
