Shocked by the racist signs at marches

Maybe I’m just severely naive but I’m honestly just shocked at the levels of racism of some of the signs at these marches. It’s just caught me really, really off guard.

@Jupitersstorm Hamas murdered people on October 7th and everyone has rightly condemned them. I do not support Hamas.

Israel are currently murdering children and have been for the last 43 days. If anyone is using whataboutery, it's you.

This.

@SomeCatFromJapanHonestly starting to feel quite scared how far this might go

You guys are not the only ones worried. Outside Keir Starmers Camden office they were chanting From the river to the sea etc

One man was seen to make explicitly anti-Semitic comments about Sir Keir's wife Victoria Alexander, who is Jewish.
The man said in a clip posted to social media: "His wife's a Zionist. His wife supports Israel and he'll go and support Israel, the little s*."

Sir Keir has said he feels worried about his family's safety amid the Israel-Hamas row.

Sharp has made comments about it getting out of hand too

I wonder how many of the posters on the conflict threads know she is Jewish?
They won't know who to vote for now.

@Lobster7 not 'people'.... children. They murdered children. And there are 33 children the youngest is 10 months. Many are without their parents. Imagine how terrified they are?

As well as Kfir, there is probably a newborn. One woman was 8+ months pregnant and is now thought to have delivered her baby, assuming she was alive of course.

I have seen posts saying things like he won't call a ceasefire because his wife is Jewish. Also that he does what his wife and the Jewish lobby tell him to do.

So I would say a lot of posters know.

Oh they know she is, some of them been posting quite brazenly about how her being Jewish must cloud his judgement about a ceasefire. They weren't going to vote for him anyway, but her ethnicity is just a bonus for them, gives them more of an excuse to hate him.

Roste · 18/11/2023 22:26

Whilst I acknowledge Jewish people are feeling anxious because they feel there is misplaced anger towards them because of the actions of Israel, I also feel for any Palestinians living in the U.K. at the moment.
Imagine knowing your government fully supports the Israeli genocide in Palestine and tried to stop other civilians from supporting you. They must feel so scared, lost and let down. I do hope they see that many ordinary citizens disagree with the government and are marching for peace - excluding the trouble makers who are often attracted to causes where they can spread hate.

etmoiandme · 18/11/2023 22:26

@Trulywonderful Yes, I've seen those posts too. It was all so predictable really.

Always is with people like that

Same as any other form of racism. They just lump all those they harbour hatred for into one box. Think everyone in that group has the same views and are somehow plotting against them etc

It is a joke that some posters think they are not antisemitic but not a funny one

Yvette Cooper raises Labour MPs’ safety with police after Gaza vote threatsSeveral politicians have offices attacked for refusing to back a ceasefire, while others have received abuse

No matter what you think about how they voted it doesn't give people the right to threat them in a threatening way. Protest outside their offices by all means. They are politicians so a protest there makes sense but it has to be done without the threat to the politicians safety.

Trulywonderful · 18/11/2023 23:21

BTP Assistant Chief Constable Sean O’Callaghan said: “In line with our strategy, protesters were issued notices and announcements were made over station sound systems before officers moved to the arrest stage.

“The vast majority of protesters left peacefully, however five arrests were made at a large protest at Waterloo station.”

Transport Secretary Mark Harper posted on X: “Grateful to @BTP officers for their swift work removing those who are intent on spreading intimidation on our rail network. I backed officers with the extra powers they needed, powers possible due to the legislation this Govt passed. Thank you to those who were on duty today.”

So they hate Suella Braverman with a Jewish husband, and they hate Keir Starmer as he has a Jewish wife.

What's funny is they monitor this thread and jump in every now and then to try and shush up those who want to discuss the racism.

Jupitersstorm · 18/11/2023 23:34

HalebiHabibti · 14/11/2023 07:17

That's a shame - I haven't seen any :(

What sort of thing did they say?

This was an absolute classic at the beginning of the thread. Racism and anti-Semitism deniers. They should read the comments boards on the Daily Mail about the protests.. No wonder they hate that paper.

I think the vandalism of MPs' offices because they didn't vote the way that certain people think that they should have voted is an assault on democracy.

It's really worrying. Someone on twitter reminded me that 2 MPs have been murdered in the last few years. Whipping up a mob never ends well.

Oh yes that is right. I had forgotten that too.

You only need one extremist or someone with mental health problems that is sucking in all this hate and we will have a third dead MP. Cooper is right to be alarmed

Look at them trying to search for a Jewish person outside Downing Street today. It was a scaled down version of what happened in Russia. "Where is the Jew" not something Jewish people fancy seeing in the UK. Alarming it happened with the police already there. I mean these people are not bothered to act like this in front of the police. So what the hell would they do if no police were there.

Rubbishagain · 19/11/2023 00:21

The atrocities that the Palestinians are facing far outweighs anything else. They have no food or water because Israel has stopped that. Israel is indiscriminately bombing hospitals with no evidence of Hamas. The innocent Palestinians are told to head west while Israel steal yet more land and they are still being shot at. Children are being burnt alive by Israeli bombs

Trulywonderful · 19/11/2023 00:34

Most people are able to think about more than one thing at a time.

We can also discuss more than one thing at a time.

We can worry about more than one thing at a time too

Plus people can be concerned about more than one thing at a time too

Please do not belittle anyone with concerns about their own and their families safety. Mounting evidence suggests their concerns are valid. Even if their concerns were not valid they still are feeling vulnerable and should be supported.

Do you understand that if you persist in ignoring what Hamas did that you are actually a problem, not a solution?

What other threads are you going on to say this? Are you going on threads about parking to tell them their problems are outweighed? Threads about health issues, domestic violence, sexism? Or is anti-semitism the only problem that can't be discussed?

Yes - I can see that in this thread. Nasty stuff in this:

Suella Braverman has "close family members in the Isreali military " | Mumsnet

Her husband is a "very proud member of the Jewish community" and lived in Isreal. Clearly, the conflict must feel quite personal to her and clouds he...

Do you understand that if the Israeli government really wanted to find Hamas they would. Do you understand that Israel has the most advanced spyware and surveillance capabilities that allow them to find people. But instead Israel choose genocide of innocent people so they can steal more land. Why bomb schools and burn children alive. Beyond horrific that you cannot even bring yourself to acknowledge this.

This is truly horrible, especially as you say given we have seen two MP's murdered in recent times.

I didn't know that Kier and Suella's partners were jewish. I hope the police are making sure they're safe.
