Shocked by the racist signs at marches

Maybe I’m just severely naive but I’m honestly just shocked at the levels of racism of some of the signs at these marches. It’s just caught me really, really off guard.

Do you understand that if the Israeli government really wanted to find Hamas they would. Do you understand that Israel has the most advanced spyware and surveillance capabilities that allow them to find people. But instead Israel choose genocide of innocent people so they can steal more land. Why bomb schools and burn children alive. Beyond horrific that you cannot even bring yourself to acknowledge this.

I don't think that anybody really aware of history, context and not-anti-Semitic is going to acknowledge that Israel is stealing land.

It sounds like you are unaware of history, context and is anti-Semitic. Just an opinion.

Disgusting that these hate marches are still being allowed to carry on. Way too many incidents now to justify their repeated existence. When you harass shoppers, pedestrians, travellers AND more importantly, actively hunt out Jews, as has recently been seen, its a no brainer. Its going to take a death to make the police and government wake up. Don't quote genocide at me, this is about racism. End of.

Yes it is racism - pure and simple. It's unbelievable that they are being allowed to continue. Ironically, it would not be allowed in other countries so a lot of these people out screaming about Israel and genocide are pleasantly surprised that they can do it with impunity. Obvious enjoyment seen on some of the videos - smiles, etc.

Something is not right because the Met police are constantly asking for help in tracking down racists at the 'protests'. Now, if that's the case and too many videos are circulating where police are visibly ignoring the racism, this has got to be addressed. People had a go at Braverman but at least she had the balls to call it for what it is: two tier policing.

I'm not sure that would make any difference, Sparklytops; after all it's no longer any secret that "light touch policing" only applies to chosen groups

And yes, the requests for the public to identify offenders have been noted, especially when it involves full face images
How convenient to be able to excuse inaction by saying "Well, nobody came forward ..."

Excellent point about putting the onus on the public to turn in the racists.

What has that got to do with racist signs on marches?

It was just yet another attempt to minimise racism towards Jewish people. We can't have any empathy with more than one fraction of society.

It would be interesting to learn what this off the scale anti-Semitic poster makes of the Hamas government.

Stomacharmeleon · 19/11/2023 14:50

@tobeinthemaldives that article was horrifying.

tobeinthemaldives · 19/11/2023 14:53

Yes indeed.

At the moment, governments are taking a Neville Chamberlain appeasement approach to the mobs. That didn't end well either.

I came across this quote from Sartre yesterday and it's been on my mind.

>“Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.”

Yep Lobster has disappeared from this thread for example - amongst others particularly two usernames beginning with P.

How very apposite
Considering it's over 40 years since he died it's every bit as true today

That's what happens to anti-Semitic posts.
And ergo your post is anti-Semitic too and your post was "rubbish again".

What an apt username.

Xenia · 19/11/2023 18:52

The marches are in dangerous of becoming a kind of mob rule, intimidating and constant every weekend and thev olume of people on a regular basis almost has an appearance of insurrection compared with an occasional eco march or the small numbers stopping roads (just stop oil who I want stopped).

The police have a hard job but I don'#t want them saying we don't stop X because there are loads of people but we will stop y because there are hardly any people as that means the mob rules. It needs to be fair and equal. They do allow eg small protests outside things like the Chinese embassy protesting against Chinese treatment in China of religions like Falan Dong and most of us do not want all protests of all kinds stopped, but these very openly hostile to jews marches even if the majority on the marches, one hopes, are not anti semitic seem to be getting out of hand.

@Xenia do you think they will 'pause' if there is a 'pause' or ceasefire?

No,it is conjecture/speculation/response to a situation. That is not fact. I'm not surprised the irrelevance of their point on this thread, overlooked you.
