Shocked by the racist signs at marches

Maybe I’m just severely naive but I’m honestly just shocked at the levels of racism of some of the signs at these marches. It’s just caught me really, really off guard.

Reasonably intelligent people can hold a wide range of non-contradictory beliefes all at once: that antisemitism is wrong, that the attacks upon civilians on 7 October were wrong, that the daily horror that the Israel inflicts on Palestinians - even during "normal", "relatively quiet" times - is wrong, that Israel´s actions in Gaza are wrong, that the frankly genocidal rhetoric coming out of the far-right Israeli government is not only wrong but also, frankly, terrifying, ... etc.

Quite frankly, as someone who has been taking an interest in this conflict for over 20 years at this point and has read widely about it, I cannot help but notice how very uninformed a lot of people are - and how readily they nonetheless immediately take sides and spout some frankly worrying opinions, from comparing Gaza with Auschwitz and conflating Israel with "Jews" in general, to hailing Israel to some sort of a light upon the world, utterly ignoring its decades of blatant human rights violations against not only (albeit mostly) Palestinians but also other minorities! It is frankly worrying

@HeidiInTheBigCity I think an amount of people are piggy backing their previous prejudices on the back of this conflict. Also political opinions. I have just seen on guardian that Jewish and allied protestors say they were pepper sprayed and physically attacked by the police in US, and a police man spat on the candles they had lit for Palestinians killed. I suppose that police man would say he was pro Israel, yet he is capable of censoring Jewish views in an aggressive way. I wonder if his aggression is more about hating Muslims than caring for the Jewish people.

He/she does indeed has the "right"to post . I am not denying that right. What I am doing is is suggesting that it is poor forum etiquette to go off topic as it leads to derailment of the thread.

This thread is about racism at the march and posters are having a debate about that. There is an extraordinary and unprecedented number of threads about Israel and its treatment of Gaza and Palestinians and the post I was referencing would fit into much better into those.

In the video filmed inside a London black cab a passenger can be heard going on a conspiracy-fuelled antisemitic diatribe.

I think the Israeli authorities see the hostages as collateral damage unfortunately. I don’t think they are making any genuine attempt to retrieve them. That’s the problem with both Hamas and the Israeli government- they put their ideology before basic human rights.

I am living in Ireland now but I have uk citizenship as well. I finally made it to a March here in Ireland. Even if it doesn’t make a jot of difference I want to say - not in my name - to the uk government. I didn’t see any antisemitism at the March here and that wasn’t my motivation. The Irish government has been very strongly condemning the actions of the Israeli government anyway.

Totally agree with Maldives.They are far too young to understand the issues and moreover should be in school. Of course they are being indoctrinated - that's why they have been taken out of school. Free Palestine is anti -semitic - pure and simple and nothing you will say will change my mind on that -and of course the disgusting river to the sea chants. Do you really think that the UK government is going to stand by and accept this kind of behaviour? You will shortly be seeing that chant be outlawed. Cleverly is on it as we speak.

FFS, you DO know Hamas wore bodycams and livestreamed or uploaded much of it to Telegram?

There's plenty of footage of people being murdered, kidnapped or held hostage in their homes, including children btw, but perhaps we're not sharing it on here because we think the victims or their families might not like it or deserve some dignity?

I imagine PurpleCrocs does know this but it's just pure denial.

Most of the info we have about people taken on 7/10 came from footage that Hamas posted online.
