Why are schools allowing/enabling students to do this?
Is it part of what schools should do, promoting frankly one-sided protest? And what will they decide to march about next? Just imagine being a Jewish student in the middle of this.
I find it sinister.

'Hundreds' of schoolchildren join pro-Palestine protest in Tower Hamlets

Thursday's march forms part of Friday's "National School Strike for Palestine" initiative

Agree! I’d be fuming if it was my kids’ school and would counter protest at the gates. Completely unacceptable to politicise children like this.

BoohooWoohoo · 17/11/2023 09:39

Maybe the students are from that area of the world so it's personal and not political?

Sausagenbacon · 17/11/2023 09:41

I just want to know why schools are allowing it

It happened in Bristol last week as part of the School Strike for Palestine. The children tied a ribbon for each dead child in Gaza to the railings.
“We want this to be about the children,” the organisers told Bristol24/7. “We want people to see that this is a humanitarian crisis, and this is by the children for the children of Gaza.”

I think it's great. As a child I would absolutely have wanted to go on a march like this.

Isn't Tower Hamlets almost entirely Muslim? It's not very surprising that they'll be marching for Palestine there.

Askolovitch · 17/11/2023 10:00

Maybe they could have tied a ribbon for each dead child in Israel too?

curaçao · 17/11/2023 10:03

Indoctrinatuon of children! Not acceptable at all .We must explain the full situation to our children

Kendodd · 17/11/2023 10:04

Part Jewish family here.
Don't dare link my family in any way to the atrosities carried out by the IDF.
No in my name.
Most Jews I know have never even been to Israel.

And yes, I also think Hamas are monsters.

AthenaPopodopolous · 17/11/2023 10:10

This is a march to protest against the war atrocities of innocent civilians, namely babies women and children being blown to high heavens. Israel Defence League-of murderers. Shame on Hamas and shame on IDL. They’re equally responsible for bloodshed and crimes against humanity.
do yes, the children should stay off school and March. It’s a cornerstone of democracy to protest.

Noelectricheating · 17/11/2023 10:10

It's encouraging hate and hate speech.

From the link 'In one clip a man can be heard leading chants on a megaphone, shouting "Israel is a-" before the young crowd responds "terrorist state".' Seriously children shouldn't be listening to hate speech like that. It just encourages children to join in with adult hatred.

Don't use children here for political ends.

Indoctrination

Why use the above terms? People are reacting to the reality of what they are seeing daily on the news. By the time kids are in Secondary school, they are becoming much more aware of the world around them and forming their own opinions. It's so patronising to assume that they are being led by 'pied pipers'.
When I was 14/15, (70s) I was demonstrating against the National Front. No-one told me to. Being aware of their obnoxious views and actions was enough motivation.

This if it was actually allowed by the school. Else it is a political or religious protest which has no place in the UK school system

A respectful vigil for all children that have died is different from a protest or march.

2band1g2020 · 17/11/2023 10:29

Have the children organised the marches themselves though? Or is it something the school has organised/encouraged

I remember a few months ago (maybe longer) some school had students protesting about the right to use toilets and something about uniform? It was all arranged by the children and caused a lot of disruptions. Police were involved etc

Oh goodness that is bad. The local LEA and the education department need to take action against the leadership of the school for that. Even if they didn't have anything to do with the protest, it is obvious they are not handing protecting their students well enough. This is a safeguarding issue.

DeeCeeCherry · 17/11/2023 10:34

A lot of people don't like apartheid. & we live in a democracy so good on them for marching.

caringcarer · 17/11/2023 10:38

It's ridiculous to make thousands of DC lose part of their education in the UK just to make a political headline. Some of those kids looked about 7. They make sickening chants about the 'river to the sea' but ask the kids which river and which sea and they don't have a clue. It's pure evil indoctrinisation and should be banned by the government. Even if every resident in the UK marched it would make no difference because Israel will decide when they will stop and it won't be before those hostages are released which is in Hamas control.

In a lot of ways it doesn't matter. The LEA and the education department plus problem Ofsted now need to make sure that the students are being safeguarding from radicalisation. Staff have all been trained as per regulations etc.

At my multicultural London state secondary school the only thing we have had so far is one boy drawing a flag on his hand. This was on a single day because other students from variousdifferent communities told him it could make peers feel uncomfortable. That is how well we handle safeguarding our students. They actually think not upsetting their peers and not spreading hate whilst at school. No idea what they get up to out of schbut at least we have taught them tolerance and empathy.

experiential · 17/11/2023 10:39

This is not an apartheid situation and children should be in lessons during school time, anything else not signed off is a clear safeguarding issue.

experiential · 17/11/2023 10:40

What are the safeguarding leads at the school involved, doing about this? Wrong on so many levels.

Trulywonderful · 17/11/2023 10:43

A lot of people don't like apartheid. & we live in a democracy so good on them for marching.

It doesn't matter what the adults views or beliefs are. These are children and should be protected as much as possible from the more exstemist groups involved. From the looks of things that has not happened. So a child protection issue for the school etc

This

It is plan and simple radicalisation. Some posters need to learn what radicalisation looks like and how it is achieved

This is not an apartheid situation

Palestine = apartheid and ethnic cleansing. Current situation is a result of occupation and years of human rights abuses.

We live in a democracy. & apartheid does not sit well with many people. Young people are discerning enough. Good on them for marching.

Violetparis · 17/11/2023 10:46

I expect most of these kids haven't got much of a clue about the situation and are marching for the excitement of it and the chance to post photos of it on social media. The adults who joined in and surrounded a Labour MPs office are encouraging mob rule, intimidation and aggression. I fear what may happen to any MP who does not agree with the mob.

If your children don't know geographical basics then it reflects badly on you - not them
