Shocked by the racist signs at marches

Maybe I’m just severely naive but I’m honestly just shocked at the levels of racism of some of the signs at these marches. It’s just caught me really, really off guard.

Its kind of astounding that while an entire population is currently being wiped off the map in Gaza, the thing you find so 'utterly depressing' in the world is some idiots climbing on a memorial site.

For fuck's sake what is wrong with you?

People are allowed to talk about other things. They are allowed to be upset about other things. Stop trying to fucking shame people for not only talking about what you want to talk about, you have a hundred other threads to do that.

Me too OP. Utterly depressing. I’m also feeling really angry and sad at the posters of the kidnapped Israeli civilians being torn down. It’s happened on one display at the end of our street twice. Where’s the humanity? You can support a Palestinian state without this

There are loads of videos on Instagram of people ripping down the posters in the US, it’s quite chilling to watch. Imagine having that much hate in your heart that compels you to rip down posters of kidnapped babies and children? One woman was slashing at a poster with a knife, really disturbing.

ETA a word.

Sleep the UK's Equality aAct 2010 prohibits race and religious discrimination. It does not say you have to be a certain colour. It is neutral so this sentence is wrong "How can that be racist if is was done by the person of Asian descent?" Under English law you can discriminate contrary to the Act even if you are not white and discrimination can also be against whites by the way too.

"Their own people"? What does that mean?

noblegiraffe · 16/11/2023 13:32

Some people assume that people can only care about one thing at a time, perhaps because that's their own limitation.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 16/11/2023 13:37

I wrote this on another thread, but I watched a compilation of the marches across the world, with a lot of London, and my Dh and I just sat in silence watching, horrified at the amount of anti semitism. It is chilling. People chanting in large numbers, nobody was challenging them, a man who was standing supporting a two state solution got attacked, people shouting that hitler had the right idea, all kinds of hideous stuff. A woman in Canada I believe saying she felt joy at watching the footage of October 7th. It was not a tiny amount at all, and if you were jewish, you'd be very afraid watching that. Its scary what is happening
This was included, it is unhinged and one of many examples.

Woman bursts into anti-Semitic tirade on bus after Palestine protest on Armistice Day

This is the shocking moment a woman launches into an anti-Semitic, foul-mouthed tirade at a couple eating McDonald's on a London bus.

@Iwantcakeeveryday what a horrible woman. Has she been caught? The video of the one on the bus
I hate bullies. Can't stand them

StarbucksSmarterSister · 16/11/2023 13:52

I know this is CAS so people will say it's not objective but let's face it, nobody forced any of the people in this video to say the things they did. It's sickening.

It's awful isn't it. No idea if she was caught or not, my husband sent this to me. It makes me scared for my kids travelling in London, and we're not jewish. I used to get so nervous when people kicked off about something on public transport, but I never saw anything this hateful.

The blatant islamophobia is being reported and deleted so you might as well stop posting it.

Captainspaulding · 16/11/2023 14:51

'Islamophobia' 😂

EasternStandard · 16/11/2023 14:53

Times Radio right now is so sad. Mother of one of the hostages, speaking about her daughter Mia

Heartbreaking horror

As a long-time supporter of the Palestinian people, I have absolutely no problem at all condemning blatantly antisemitic and horrifying behaviour some examples of which have been shared on this thread. It is categorically wrong! I am happy to stand up for and defend anyone who finds themselves at the receiving end of this. Because not only is it wrong - it´s also disgusting!

What is also categorically wrong, however, is the attempt to smear everyone and anyone who opposes the actions of the Israeli state as a mere, hateful antisemite.

Reasonably intelligent people can hold a wide range of non-contradictory beliefes all at once: that antisemitism is wrong, that the attacks upon civilians on 7 October were wrong, that the daily horror that the Israel inflicts on Palestinians - even during "normal", "relatively quiet" times - is wrong, that Israel´s actions in Gaza are wrong, that the frankly genocidal rhetoric coming out of the far-right Israeli government is not only wrong but also, frankly, terrifying, ... etc.

Quite frankly, as someone who has been taking an interest in this conflict for over 20 years at this point and has read widely about it, I cannot help but notice how very uninformed a lot of people are - and how readily they nonetheless immediately take sides and spout some frankly worrying opinions, from comparing Gaza with Auschwitz and conflating Israel with "Jews" in general, to hailing Israel to some sort of a light upon the world, utterly ignoring its decades of blatant human rights violations against not only (albeit mostly) Palestinians but also other minorities! It is frankly worrying!

Stomacharmeleon · 16/11/2023 15:19

@Ecdysiast care to elaborate what 'their own people' means?

It's kind of astounding that a terrorist group is putting its citizens in the way of a defence force trying to find hostages that the terrorist group refuse to release.

Sorry but you have lots of threads to write your opinions about - this thread is for racist (anti- semitic )signs at the marches. You are doing what other people are trying to do - derail this thread by drawing attention away from the problems that the marches are causing.
