I'm told that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak asked Braverman to leave the government - not just the Home Office and the post of home secretary, but the government entirely. And she accepted.

About bloody time.

Ifailed · 13/11/2023 09:10

He had a choice, move the Tories even further right to take on Reclaim, or steer it back towards the centre.

I don't think it'll make much difference now.

Ohlalalalala · 13/11/2023 09:13

Apparently James Cleverly will be the new home secretary while, wait for it, David Cameron is going to be foreign secretary.

Interesting, Ehud Barak former Israeli Prime minister has been giving interviews on how Public opinion has shifted:
“Listen to the public tone — and behind doors it is a little bit more explicit. We are losing public opinion in Europe and in a week or two we’ll start to lose governments in Europe. And after another week the friction with the Americans will emerge to the surface,”

Combined with Macrons statements and Blinkens gentle rebuke, it looks like Rishi is covering his bases.

I wish we could sack Sunak off.

Ohlalalalala · 13/11/2023 09:24

@BelleHathor for me, as for so many others, Sunak has already lost the little credibility he had. So whatever he does, whoever he appoints, he has no credibility or any political acumen.

I wish we could sack Sunak off.

I wish we were truly represented. I wish we could choose our PM directly. I wish we had more choice than two incompetents.

Cameron might do a decent job as Foreign Sec

Perhaps May should be Home Sec again.

But until the Tory Party stops tearing itself apart from the inside, they are going to struggle.

Centre-right has no natural political home now, unless Starmer is going to emulate Blair ever more closely

AzureBlue99 · 13/11/2023 09:29

She has already started her campaign to be leader. She wanted to be sacked.

orchardsquare · 13/11/2023 09:30

I didn't realise David Cameron was still an MP? Can't believe he's coming back!

He's not!

Labtastic · 13/11/2023 09:30

Not an MP I mean

fuckmyuteruslining · 13/11/2023 09:31

Is he going to make him a peer?

AngelAurora · 13/11/2023 09:32

Makes no difference, the Tories are finished.

orchardsquare · 13/11/2023 09:33

Sorry for ignorance I didn't realise non mps could be appointed in these roles.

Ohlalalalala · 13/11/2023 09:33

Former PM David Cameron is in Downing Street, and there's a reshuffle taking place. There's no word of what job he's getting... yet

@Ohlalalalala Fully agree, Sunak has absolutely no credibility at all.

Just mentioning that our politicians follow whatever America does and apparently they're getting increasingly mad with Netanyahu and the optics of the images coming out of Gaza and the effects on their election potential. USA may be preparing to tell Israel no.

ladeluge · 13/11/2023 09:43

Sorry, I'm not British, but how can a non MP (Cameron) be appointed to Cabinet?

To me that is the opposite of democracy, in that no one voted for him!

I'd be very wary that radical or maverick unelected people could be appointed like this. Does cabinet and/or Commons have to approve this?

Maybe I am missing something in your Constitution or something that allows it.

It's too little too late; Gaza is destroyed and we all witnessed a genocide.

The hypocritical "leaders" are just concerned about the optics as you put it. They don't think in terms of morality and sanctity of human life but in terms of election and vote and if the thousands being murdered daily impacts negatively or not on their political advancement. Disgusting.

I am British and I am concerned about this as well. It should NOT be possible for an unelected person to be in Government. Even one who was previously elected. I agree that this is the opposite of democracy and I am VERY angry.

Oh this is so hopeful to hear, it has bought tears to my eyes. Maybe maybe it’s happening in my lifetime.

Isn’t it something about him being a Lord or something. S shocking they couldn’t find a single appropriate person from all their elected MPs
