Conflict in the Middle East

Are any Palestinians calling for hostage release / Hamas to stop fighting?

This question is not about whether they should or should not be. But if we are hearing all Palestinian voices - it’s so hard to tell from the media. I imagine there must be people who just want it all to stop and don’t think keeping the hostages is in ordinary Gazan’s interests, or who do not support their government but I haven’t heard any - it may well be that I’ve just missed it, but is it something that’s being under reported?

I imagine they are too busy trying to keep their children alive to be honest.

juju99 · 12/11/2023 09:12

If I was living the nightmare that they are, if I feared that I and my entire family might be killed at any moment, if I had no food, water, basic necessities of life, if I was seeing right in front of me the death and destruction we see on our screens, I think I’d have far more important things on my mind than letting the world know my views on releasing the hostages.

FOJN · 12/11/2023 09:24

What would you like them to do? Hold a press conference on the steps of Al Shifa Hospital to denounce Hamas?

Their children are dying from lack of oxygen nevermind food and water.

Of course there are Palestinians who just want it all to stop. They're a bit preoccupied probably.
And you know, brutal dictatorships are hardly known for welcoming free speech or critique.

Thedreamer28 · 12/11/2023 09:27

I think they are probably just trying to survive at the moment from all the bombs that are being dropped on their heads. Or trying to pull their dead families and children from the rubble.
as for the hostages unfortunately Israel doesn't really care for the return of the hostages as they have been bombing mercilessly without thinking that the hostages could be there and I think they have probably killed some of the hostages too coz they have bombed Gaza that much. There is literally nowhere safe to go.

Reallifelurker · 12/11/2023 09:30

Yeah, I think they have other things to worry about right now. Like trying to stay alive.

quantumbutterfly · 12/11/2023 09:30

If I was living in a country under constant bombardment from my neighbours so I had to have a safe room in my house,
under the threat of suicide bombers in cafes and on buses so I did not know if I could trust the person next to me in the street,
with neighbours who's avowed aim was to obliterate me and my country and they had just perpetrated the most barbaric up close and personal atrocity on 1400 of my neighbours..
I might not have time to worry about people on keyboards on the other side of the world.

And yet there are people on both sides of the border trying to achieve a kind of peace, I pray that they win against the monsters. Target your anger at Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran and the numerous jihadi groups in that region. Send your support to the groups on the ground in the region ( many of whom were targeted on Oct 7th) trying to broker peace.

Seriously? Most of them are dead just in case you haven’t noticed. You want them to condemn Hamas from their graves? Actually most don’t have graves, their bodies probably lying in many pieces somewhere under the rubble.

Israel rejected a deal that would return the hostages early on. Hamas offered, but Israel preferred to to carry out a campaign of ethnic cleansing on the civilian population of Gaza instead.

More details about the deals Netanyahu rejected can be found here:

PTSDBarbiegirl · 12/11/2023 09:43

I'm sure many feel this way however have fear of the Hamas backlash while living in a tiny area with 2 million other poor souls squeezed in. Health and deprivation must be awful, not many would likely speak out in that environment.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 12/11/2023 09:46

A palastinian friend of mine did. I've not heard from him or his wife for 4 weeks now. They were west bank rather than Gaza and wanted to try to leave and get to somewhere safe. I live in hope but fear the worst 😔

Parkingt111 · 12/11/2023 09:58

@quantumbutterfly you missed out Netanyahu in your list of monsters
I'm sure even many Israelis will agree he should be added there

I imagine they are too busy trying to keep their children alive to be honest.

That was my first thought too.

It feels very indulgent to wonder if Palestinians are thinking about others when you see the pictures on the news.

It would be interesting to hear what the excuses are on this one from the 'but hamas' crowd on here

Spendonsend · 12/11/2023 10:12

I assume you mean Palestinians resident elswhere in the world. I have seen the odd Palestinian settled elswhere speak out against hamas for a while now, but they havent felt that isreals response is an effective way to deal with hamas either.

connie26 · 12/11/2023 10:20

I think your question should be why aren't protesters over here calling for Hamas to release hostages/stop fighting. Pro-palastinians should be enraged at what Hamas has done to it's own people by starting this terrible conflict.

110APiccadilly · 12/11/2023 10:28

How would you feel about criticising Hamas if you lived somewhere controlled by them?

Xenia · 12/11/2023 10:30

There are many voices so I doubt it will be clear. 50% of the population is under 18 so a lot of those probably believe what their parents believe.

Hamas' invasion was its best way to stop Israel and Saudi getting closer and might be the reason for what it did. I doubt the terrorists of Hamas are too bothered about the mayhem they chose to cause.

Ecdysiast · 12/11/2023 10:31

@connie26 Hamas already offered to release more hostages multiple times (and early on) in exchange for a ceasefire. Netanyahu said no. And many Israelis have been protesting against his decision.

Here is the link again. You should read the article :

ApoodlecalledPenny · 12/11/2023 10:32

I imagine one problem Israel had was that that deal was for “some” of the hostages.

NmeChngeFail · 12/11/2023 10:33

What do you think ceasefire means? It means on both sides

flashbac · 12/11/2023 10:39

Here OP:

Certainfailure · 12/11/2023 10:58

@flashbac where are the Palestinians in the UK calling for Hamas to be ousted ?
Where are the placards calling for Hamas to be eliminated at these matches ? For the hostages to be released ? Ironically in Hamas land that poor woman has no rights whatsoever, pretty much a second class citizen and is now used as human shield by despicable terrorists to fight a war.

I feel like shouting BINGO sometimes on here.

It would be mildly amusing if it wasn't so fucking tragic.
