Refugee camps are supposed to be safe havens for refugees.

Can't edit the title. Meant to say Israel confirms bombing the refugee camp.

Jabalia was not a tent city of refugees, but rather a built up neighbourhood of apartment buildings etc with a huge network of Hamas tunnels and munitions built underneath - and Hamas does not let any civilians use its well fortified tunnels as bomb shelters. Hamas has even stated publicly in recent interviews that it is not responsible for its civilians, but the UN and Israel is.

War is horrible and bloody and deadly and Hamas has the blood on its hands of the death of its civilians.

Why is no one asking Hamas to stop bombing Israel, which it continues to do every day, but which does not get reported in main stream media? Why is no one asking Hamas to return the hostages? If Hamas really wanted the war to end, it would acknowledge the right of Israel to exist (and also Jews around the world - just look at the Hamas charter).

Hamas was pushed into the 7 October terror attack by Iran on the eve of a monumental step towards peace in the Middle East with the Abraham Accords. The same Iran where a 16 year old girl was beaten and just died for daring to show her hair in public.

The situation is complicated and ugly. I'm not saying Israel is perfect, not at all. Nor is Israeli society unanimously behind Netanyahu and his government - remember the massive protests by many many many Israeli's almost every day this summer over the Netanyahu government - but right now, it is facing an existential threat and will do what it takes to continue to exist.

A fair and accurate appraisal of the situation. Israel has no choice but to defend itself.

I’m taking solace in the fact that younger generations- perhaps because of the rise of social media, they are objectively able to see what is happening for themselves, without being force fed just the Western mainstream media narrative- are starting to stand up for Palestine.

We're all sixth formers here apparently 😬

headstone · 01/11/2023 16:09

SomeCatFromJapan, such a simple solution, but what does Hamas surrendering actually look like. Because Israel wants to completely destroy Hamas. If all the hostages were released Israel would keep bombing, possibly even more as there would be no one worthy to protect. If all Hamas stood in a neat line so that they could be shot or bombed all at once it still wouldn’t stop the bombing. It would also lead to a total ground invasion with even greater civilian casualties , There would be no one to stop Israeli soldiers from doing whatever they wanted to do.

They appear to be the only people in that stupid nation that do, actually.

From the horses mouth. Hamas don't give a stuff about the lives of ordinary Palestinians. And suggesting that Hamas, Hamas of everyone, have a care for hostage lives, is a cruel joke.

Because Israel wants to completely destroy Hamas

Which is somewhat understandable given that Hamas have just reiterated that it's their goal to wipe out Israel.

It's all there. They are literally telling you who they are and what their intentions are. Can they not at least get a little bit of the blame?

Yes, Israel has been getting away with this stuff for years with total impunity.

In 2009 Israel bombed a United Nations-run school called al-Fakhura School in the Jabalia Camp in the Gaza Strip. According to UN and several non-governmental organizations, more than 40 civilians were killed. This is one of a few such bombings to even make it to mainstream media in the UK.

At first Israel claimed it was because militants were inside, then later admitted that this wasn’t true:
https://www.unrwa.org/newsroom/official-statements/statement-shelling-near-al-fakhura-school-jabalia-camp

Sounds just like the bombing of certain hospitals, mosques and churches recently, ahem.

Notice how all the media reports on the ground in Gaza are quoting 400+ killed in today’s attack on the refugee camp, but the UK press are quoting only 50…

I’m not being defeatist. I’m marching, I’m sharing news, I’m writing to my MP, I’m funding Palestinian aid charities where I can, and I’m boycotting the supporters of genocide, and I’d encourage others to do the same.

Starbucks, McDonalds, and Walt Disney Co. stocks are still down after boycotts that have been lasting for more than two weeks.

Money talks.

Hi there! Could you let me know how I can help with regards to donations? I've donated money, but is there a way to help with supplies eg clothes, tinned food? Saw a segment on Channel 4 on pregnant women not having provisions for their newborns.

Is there any reason why Hamas stop their rocket fire, hand over the hostages and surrender to Israel in order to secure a ceasefire and prioritise Palestinian lives?

Idk ... Maybe it's because the last time Palestinians peacefully marched along the Israeli border 266 people were murdered and 30,000 injured.

I don't think being peaceful has gotten the Palestinians anywhere in the last 80 years or so.

What's that got to do with Hamas surrendering? I keep reading Hamas are not the Palestinians.

I'm not condoning the shooting btw, but realistically Palestinians are not going to be granted a right to return within pre 1948 borders. And also realistically, Israel won't be easing any blockades on a Gaza run by Hamas. We've all seen what happens when Hamas get into Israeli territory unchecked now.

Edited

Because if ordinary Palestinians marched peacefully and were murdered. What the hell is going to happen to Hamas. Why one earth would they hand over hostages if they are probably going to get captured and tortured? ....

@Livinginanotherworld ’people have had enough’. Which people is this ? The 50 who ambushed a politician doing his job because they don’t agree with his stance ? The tiny echo chamber that you are operating in where no dissent or nuance is
allowed ?
The fact that you believe a terrorist organisation allied with other terrorist organisations that are quite happy to murder, rape and pillage innocent people elsewhere in the world says more about you.
The fact that you are quite happy to enable another 5 years of misrule by this pitiful government by creating the illusion of a split in the LP tells me you don’t give a shit about domestic events in your own country (if you are in the UK lol). Families and children in your own country are suffering right now, older people cannot afford to heat their homes but no, something you cannot control, that is massively complicated, is obviously of far more importance for middle aged class warriors.
Anti Semitic incidents have increased massively, jewish people are afraid to openly display that they are jewish because of potential abuse, such is the overheated atmosphere created by people like you. I suspect the same has happened with Islamophobic ones too.
The whole situation is an absolute Shit show, no one is condoning the deaths of children or any innocent people for that matter, but the constant threads like this, with multiple name changing, accusations of genocide aren’t helping at all.

I’m certainly not happy with another 5 years of Tory scum, as a labour supporter of many many years, we do not have a choice now, they are both Tory scum.

I don’t think for one minute that families in the UK are suffering anywhere near those poor kids in Gaza are suffering, check your privilege there with your whataboutery.
Oh and you can check with admins, I have never name changed on here, it’s not an accusation of genocide, it IS genocide. Hitler got away with it because the world couldn’t see until it was too late, this time the world is watching and doing nothing. Shame on us all for doing nothing !

"Why don't they try the peaceful route to get what they want?" the IDF TikTok soldier yells over the sound of her machine gun taking out placard waving civilians.

Hamas have said they intent to wipe out Israel. Recently. I posted a link upthread. They have given the world a demonstration, too, on 7 October.

Can you clarify, are you expressing concern at what Israel might do to Hamas?

And the Israeli government have given their demonstration over the past 80 years and are putting on quite a show now.

The Israeli government have behaved far from perfectly and I wouldn't claim otherwise. What they haven't done is kill every last Palestinian. Which is as I've evidenced with the link above, the stated aim of Hamas.
