Conflict in the Middle East

To think Israel won't exist much longer?

sergeantsalt · 28/10/2023 07:56

Support in the west is declining, and when Israel doesn't have weapons and defense funding they won't be able to defend against their neighbouring countries on their own. AIBU to wonder how much longer it can exist given they are losing support?

I have lost sympathy for Israel, I think their actions are abhorrent. What HAMAS did was pure evil but those children being killed in Gaza are not HAMAS fighters.

FromEden · 28/10/2023 10:14

@marmaladeandpeanutbutter

Excuse me? I quoted @Fleetingmoments . I certainly did not use that phrase in relation to Jewish people. Maybe read back through the thread? I copied and pasted what they wrote. Perhaps it's been deleted

For heavens sake, are Israeli supporters still on here arguing the moral high ground? Israel has gone right over the top and anyone who isn't a right wing politician can see it. And it would have helped enormously to prevent this is Israeli citizens had not been in the habit of stealing Palestinian land and homes, which we have seen on our news screens here in the west for decades, including recently. Israel is not innocent in this. Not at all. And I say that as someone who decries the massacre by Hamas a few weeks ago.

Yes, it's all as simple as you say, isn't it? How nice and neatly you have compartmentalised the history.

prettygardens · 28/10/2023 10:19

If you think Israel will cease to exist, you haven't read your history. They have fought for their very existence, brutally attacked by their neighbours non stop since they began as a people group and as a recognised nation. If the Holocaust didn't succeed, Hamas won't either.

If you want Israel to cease to exist then you've drunk the Hamas kool aid.

The only thing I wish would cease to exist is this really unpleasant thread.

Westfacing · 28/10/2023 10:20

Israel is not losing American support - and that's all that matters.

Demonstrations by ordinary people around the world won't make much difference unfortunately.

No matter the awful provocation by Hamas the pulverising of the Palestinians is sickening to watch.

It's Gaza that soon won't exist.

Not deleted yet so here is where the "greedy hands" phrase was used by a poster who very much is not me.

queenofarles · 28/10/2023 10:21

And yet people keep telling me Islam is a religion on peace?

How can you bring up children to want to wipe another group of people from the face of the earth

really ? So please name the country that killed 7000 Palestinians in less than 3 weeks,
and The country responsible for the deaths of 2 million Iraqis , and what about the countries the killed 60million in ww2 and 17 million in WW1?
I will tell you this ,
Not one of them was an Arab country, neither were they Muslim.

I know many Jewish people and they are certainly nothing like that monster Netanyahu ,

amd I think if this current Israeli government effs off, the world would be a more peaceful place.

I'm not surprised at its existence, given a large majority of mn posters support Labour. The Labour, party, who is antisemitic.

twilightermummy · 28/10/2023 10:24

I'd ignore the first couple of posts. In the last few years, there seems to have been a fight for who can respond first with a cutting post. Somebody started a thread about it once and it's so true! I can't unsee it now!

Clearly people care about this matter. I know many people can't even watch the news because of it. In my circles support for Israel is waning. Question Time seemed reflective of that, as have other shows in the media.

It's awful what happened to the innocent civilians of Israel however, we are watching the obliteration of an entire civilization. I don't think people will stand by much longer but it's hard to tell. It seems like a land grab to me and of course with the support of powerful countries, it seems hopeless.

I'm not deeply religious but I do often think "but for the grace of God" as to where I was born.

prettygardens · 28/10/2023 10:25

Hellostrawberries · 28/10/2023 09:27

Israel, thankfully, will never cease to exist. I'm heartened by these responses and the voting. Looks like this thread isn't going in the direction your hamas apologist head had planned OP!

@Hellostrawberries I'm on the app only so can't see voting. What does the voting say?

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 28/10/2023 10:27

@FromEden I thought I had, but I see you are right and that it was said by @Fleetingmoments an hour ago. I apologise.

Blueggsandham · 28/10/2023 10:28

Israel and Gaza are at war, sadly for Gazans their leaders have no compulsion at all about civilian deaths, but unless all the neighbouring counties ally with Hamas, then Israel isn't going to be obliterated. As Egypt won't even open its border with Gaza to let refugees out, I don't think it's likely that they'll join Hamas in a war with Israel.

But perhaps this will lead to a resolution where Palestinian leadership will accept a 2 state solution, the only way I can see out of this mess.

Sleepybuny · 28/10/2023 10:29

You sound like a pro Palestine and pro Hamas person OP. Israel has got support from US, UK, India and many other countries. If they get attacked from other countries, they will have support from some of the biggest armies. It's most likely Gaza and Palestine are not going to exist soon.

LaDerniereVacheFolle · 28/10/2023 10:29

I used to vote Labour until I noticed the barely concealed antisemitism from a party that purports to be all about equality.

And I'm not even Jewish.

The confidence which posters proclaim the truth without knowing anything at all about the history of the region or the politics at play is baffling and so arrogant.
do people really think this conflict is simple and it’s just about mean Israel and Palestinian victims …please give it a rest.
if israel are genocidal then they are bloody awful at it and the worst at genocide the world has ever seen. 20% of Israelis are Arabs, there are 14 million claiming to be Palestinian worldwide. They have only managed to kill 7000 in Gaza. Israel, if genocide is your aim then you seriously suck at it.

despite the thousands of hits on Gaza they have warned civilians where they will be thereby endangering their own troops to protect civilian life. They have only killed 7000 hamas fighters and civilians shows that they are warnings. If the bombing is indiscriminate then in a populated area it would be much more than that. With such low civilian casualties, bearing in mind hamas inflated figures we can only logically conclude that Israel is going above and beyond to protect civilian life.
meanwhile the government of Gaza, hamas, have shown that they have no problem with killing babies. They cannot now pretend they care about their own babies being killed, they don’t. Good they can get more aid money for their estates in Doha.

can I also point out that the figure of 7000 from hamas also includes hamas fighters not civilians therefore even less civilians have been killed as we know hamas is a full of shit and inflates figures.

LaDerniereVacheFolle · 28/10/2023 09:15

👍🏻. Or that they have the slightest clue about global history/politics aside from what they've gleaned from TikTok over the last 3 weeks.

I don't have purple hair, Palestinian flags or a twitter account. I never watch TikTok either. What I do have is enough knowledge to understand that we are witnessing now is not something that started on 07/10/23 but in 1948, i.e. the systematic oppression of the Palestinian people.

TeenLifeMum · 28/10/2023 10:32

I don’t think there’s strong support for hamas, no. Is there strong support for Israel? From western leaders yes (there’s a bigger agenda there) but from the population? I’m not convinced. Most of us stand with the incident civilians on both sides of this utter shit show of humanity.

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 28/10/2023 10:32

You sound like a pro Palestine and pro Hamas person @Sleepybuny

Another totally fucking ignorant post lumping palestine in with Hamas.

It literally amazes me how few people have any understanding of what’s actually happening or the history of Hamas in Gaza 🙄

Fingeronthebutton · 28/10/2023 10:34

You obviously don’t understand how the world ( arms sales) work.

No it isn’t. Jews bought the land that no one wanted and cultivated it. They were so successful that many Arabs then migrated to the new Israel for work.
when Israelis were forced to leave Gaza in 2005 they left a thriving Gaza which hamas then smashed to pieces.

Yes, let's just forget October 7th even happened. The amount of times I've seen

"I don't condone Hamas, BUT.."
